Vendaval -> Brazilian waxes may be outlawed in NJ! (3/19/2009 9:02:56 PM)

Is this yet another example of a "nanny state law" trying to over-regulate a private procedure?  Wondering what some of our regulars from NY and NJ are going to have to say about this.

Would you cross state lines to get a proper Brazilian wax or try for a do-it-at-home method?

"NJ considers ban on bare-it-all 'Brazilian' wax"

By BETH DeFALCO, Associated Press Writer
March 19, 2009

"Officials with the National Cosmetology Association and National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology said they were unaware of another state that has banned genital waxing.

Regular bikini waxes would still be allowed.

Genital waxing can be dangerous in that the hot wax can irritate or tear delicate skin in the bikini area, resulting in infections, ingrown hairs and rashes, according to skin care experts.

Despite such risks, millions of American women — and some men — choose to have the hair down there ripped away, and a majority of salons in New Jersey offer the procedure for between $50 to $60.

The state Board of Cosmetology meets next on April 14 and will decide whether to move forward with banning the procedure, made popular in Brazil to accommodate skimpy thong bikinis.

The earliest the ban could take effect would be sometime in May, Lamm said, and salons that continue to perform it could be fined.

For salon owners, discontinuing the popular service could mean a substantial drop in business, especially as summer swimsuit season nears.

Spa owner Linda Orsuto, who owns 800 West Salon & Spa in Cherry Hill, estimates that most of 1,800 bikini waxes performed at her business last year were Brazilian-style.

"It's huge," she said, adding that her customers don't think their bikini lines are anyone's business but their own. "It's just not right."

She said many customers would likely travel across state lines to get it and some might even try to wax themselves."

slvemike4u -> RE: Brazilian waxes may be outlawed in NJ! (3/19/2009 10:32:09 PM)

Well it wouldn't be any fun to do it alone.....I'm not much for solo acts anyway.

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: Brazilian waxes may be outlawed in NJ! (3/19/2009 10:34:48 PM)

I tried to wax myself down there once.... Yeah... I didn't finish it.... I had to just shower to get the rest of the wax off... I will NEVER do that again... I was bruised REALLY bad for about 2 weeks... And that was just the side.. Like by my leg.  lol  it was BAD!  And It wouldn't bother me if they banned it around here... I really don't WANT to have to do that to someone else either when I start working in a salon. lol

Once upon a time I bought a home waxing kit.  After a memorable experience filled with cursing and shouting it was returned to the back of a bathroom shelf.  I am now the proud owner of two electric razors designed for careful shaving of private parts.  An application an anti-razor burn gel from the drug store before trimming the bushes is an important step in the whole process.  YMMV

stupid law

kazzaslave -> RE: Brazilian waxes may be outlawed in NJ! (3/20/2009 4:41:22 AM)

Ummmm isn't this enfringing on personal freedom? It's none of their business if people want to have their private parts waxed. This really annoys me, MEH!!!

I'm happy to live in NY, not NJ.  I go every 3 months for waxing.

Doesn't matter, the full-bush look is back in style - in New Jersey anyway [&:] . "Set my forest on fire, baby."

funny,i grew up in jersey, and the unofficial state motto used to be "new jersey, where the weak are killed and eaten"...but those candyasses in Trenton are changing it to "new jersey, ohhhhh, be careful, you might hurt yourself"...damm i hate the whole nannystate mentality

yeah, and it's such a turnon when you see short and curlys peeking out the side of the bikini bottoms,,,just my opinion, nothing more nothing less

sorry, neglected to add the tongue-in-cheek smiley

submissivej -> RE: Brazilian waxes may be outlawed in NJ! (3/20/2009 5:35:36 AM)

Doing the waxing yourself is much harder then having someone else do it for you. I get it done every month. If you go to a person who has done it for sometime, it gets done with less pain and more quickly. My lady has been doing it for about 25 years. She is quick and can limit the pain. Not that I don't enjoy some pain. lol
