ORIGINAL: thetammyjo Frankly I don't think its safe to have a "submissive personality" in most situations. There are too many selfish and nasty people out there happy to use and abuse others. I'm sure others will disagree but the people I've known with "submissive personality" seemed much happier both in and out of BDSM when they learned to be selective about who and what they submit to. I must say that I love your protective orientation. quote:
For me a "submissive personality" would be someone who in every day life in a majority of situations follows other people and bents to them without much thought for him/herself. I don't quite fit this definition, although I can tune into others well. On the interpersonal / intimacy front, I do respond to someone else who is the lead and really knows what they want and expect. Outside of this realm, though, I am independent and almost defiant of authority. My protective streak can get me into trouble when the "wounded puppies" want relationships with me. I've had to learn to protect myself from these types of people by insisting someone who needs to get emotional or psychological help get it from elsewhere before we start anything. We all chose to follow or must follow from time to time -- its part of life.
