Who gives two craps about the president giggling or cracking retard jokes?

There are much more important issues in the world to worry about. He is a man, human and imperfect as every other being on this planet. Do not expect him or any other leader to stand on some pedestal and do what you cannot.

(And that "you" was really not directed at anyone in particular...don't get your panties all in a twist!)

MarsBonfire -> RE: "Mr. President; Are you 'Punch-drunk'?" (3/26/2009 5:48:04 AM)

In early 2004, after we invaded Iraq, Pres Bush made a speech to a convention of GOP elite, and families of those who had been killed during the war. As a "joke" Bush presented a slideshow of him searching the oval office, looking for "WMD". Gosh, I wonder where they could be? Are they under the rug? Are they in the bottom drawer of the desk? Behind the painting of Lincoln? LOL... gosh, it's so funny! He's totally mocking the reason he lied to us all about taking the country to war... and he's doing it in front of an audiance which included the family members of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in that war.

And you expect me to get upset at Obama for laughing at the absurdity of the "Catch 22" situation he finds himself in.

You've got some of your facts confused.

President George Bush sparked a political firestorm yesterday after making what many judged a tasteless and ill-judged joke about the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Mr Bush made the joke at a black-tie event for radio and television journalists in Washington on Wednesday night. He narrated a slide show, described as the White House election year album, making hay of the administration's reputation for secrecy and strained relations with European allies. But it was the joke about the war in Iraq that drew attacks. A slide showed Mr Bush in the Oval office, leaning to look under a piece of furniture. "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere," he told the audience, drawing applause. Another slide showed him peering into another part of the office, "Nope, no weapons over there," he said, laughing. "Maybe under here," he said, as a third slide was shown.

John Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat who will fight Mr Bush for the White House said the joke displayed a "stunningly cavalier" attitude. "If George Bush thinks his deceptive rationale for going to war is a laughing matter, then he's even more out of touch than we thought. Unfortunately for the president, this is not a joke."

Doesn't seem substantially different to me. With a couple of insignificant differences about the venue, that's pretty darned close to exactly how he remembered it.

a few key words is one thing but when you read it line for line  is another.   Like when they load up the wrong speech and Obama thanked himself because it has the prime ministers speech on it rather then Obamas speech and Obama didn't notice it.....lol
Dick Morris told a story about how once the teleprompter malfunctioned and how Bill Clinton gave the speech from memory.  AFter about 2/3 done with the speech the telliprompter had the proper speech loadedup and bill clinton didnt miss a beat.

A teleprompter is no different than note cards, just electronic.

If this is what all the controversy has been about, let's think this out.

Could someone on the other end of the screen really think out a thoughtful answer, type it into the machine, and have him read it in the time allowed?

that's where democrats said they supported the troops just not the mission ;)

I think it is interesting to watch people wear their support of Obama on their sleeve..."my President, right or wrong" seems to be the mantra.
Of course he is the President of all Americans, and if push ever came to shove we will all rally behind the government.  However, it doesn't   mean that we have to b supportive of his policies if we disagree with the direction they will take the government.  We all support America ...but we don't have to support "radical change" if it's against our core principles whether from the right or the left.

It would be really interesting to know if you also said this about those who didn't believe we should have went into Iraq after 9/11.

Were you supporting those then that felt it was "against our core principles"?

I think that speech was at the annual Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner.
AKA the LIBERAL MEDIA ELITE!!!! not GOP elite.   Thats why they laughed at the joke. ;)
