How does that make it any more hard hitting than whats for dinner tonight?  Just cuz you didnt know about waterboarding does not make it hard hitting.  Im glad you found your answers.  Most of life is about mundane stuff.

Because if I wanted to know what to have for dinner tonight I could look it up on roundtheworldrecipes.com!! If I want to look up waterboarding I will ask the question on a BDSM site or is that wrong? There is nothing mundane about the question in my opinion. And actually I did find my answers but sadly not on this BDSM site.

If somebody lectures (I do) and they can back it up with the relevant knowledge, I am completely cool. If they can admit to being wrong, when challenged, good for them. Gets people's back up? They can challenge, instead of emote. I've found that in the vanilla world as well - lotsa people don't like opinionated. 's bull.

Hard issues, hard question and answers are hard to post because some moderators treat us all like children..I believe hard debates between adults on adult issues should be allowed...there is a place where you can do this but If I posted a link or such it would be remove so fet life to you all, of course as always just the views of this ol' Master..Bountyhunter

Missokyst -> RE: Engaging the Man (3/25/2009 10:18:49 AM)

Have you considered that perhaps no one who reads the forum and posts has seen chinese waterboarding in person?  That would have been my first thought, not that it was "too hard hitting" for my delicate sensibilities.
Many of us have done stuff, and not all is fluffy bunnie floggers and lowering our eyes.  If you want to find out about waterboarding go to a torture site.  No, not bdsm torture, look up military stuff.  Its all in the way you choose to search.

A hard hitting BDSM question can only be relevant to the person that is asking it.

I recently asked a question on Chinese Waterboarding. It's something I have been interested in for a while but not something I have actually witnessed in person. I really wanted to try it but I needed more information. Everytime I googled it, all I came up with was porn sites. I asked the question in the hope of finding someone who had tried it, was informed about the un-obvious dangers and even lead me to an information pack that could set me on my way.

The often seen reply is 'look it up on google' misses the point.

I have a habit of doing that. I normally use that line when somebody comes up with a oneliner question, no background, and no indication that they have done their homework. I get your point, but when I make the effort to help or advise a person I want to know they honestly need an answer, not coming to me/us because they're too f****g lazy to make an effort.

One other reason I would say that is that I know (professionally) that doing database searches can be very challenging to consumers, Google is really a crummy engine for those doing standard English searches, and even worse when the person speaks non-American English, or is not a native speaker. Try and do a search for a sentence containing  "cellular", "mobile", "handy", "handphone" or "GSM" (all synonyms for mobile phones in various parts of the world) and you'll see how U.S.-centric Google is.

My point exactly..

allthatjaz -> RE: Engaging the Man (3/25/2009 10:31:23 AM)

Your missing my point. This thread is not about asking specific questions about water boarding and neither is it about presuming anything. The question relates entirely to informed knowledge and being able to share it. Perhaps waterboarding (which was just an example) is not hard hitting to you but it was to me at the time because its something I feared and yet something I longed to do. How would I of known to go to an military site without someone telling me to do that?. I can't exactly ask my vanilla friends.
Anything could be considered as hard hitting if that person wishes to understand more about it.

Ah but can you have a conversation with google? can you have a debate or an ongoing discussion with google? The reason people write to the boards is so they can do just that.
Do we need to tell you we have tried to google it, been to the libary and tried fruitlessly to find out knowledge on the subject before coming here to ask a question? Do we need to show you we have a background? Do we need to be worthy?

Well though I may agree with you that not all posts are stimulating, but that is a subject term,  for Me they are all entertaining---so one person's interesting topic is a yawner for another--however on the subject of waterboarding, I assume you don't listen to the world news---or at least from the US--the spirited conversation would not at least from the US counterparts would not have been BDSM focused, but would have been more oriented to the Guatanamo Bay Base spy torture debate and that would have ended up in Off Topic or pulled.  SO the fact that when one google's and the first 120 entries are all about it as torture and the press articles, may have been an indicator that you would have to search a bit deeper----

SailingBum -> RE: Engaging the Man (3/25/2009 12:37:27 PM)

yea one would think unless your living under a rock for the past 4 or 5 years you would have a basics on waterboarding.  Im trying to think of a topic that has NOT been discussed on here.  LoL I just did a search on here and got quite a few hits on waterboarding.  Hows dat for hard hitting.

allthatjaz -> RE: Engaging the Man (3/25/2009 3:39:32 PM)

Interesting that this discussion forum almost got into a discussion there... before it got dragged down into another "why don't you Google it" chant from the usual suspects.

I would suggest that this (along with the thought police/mods) is exactly the reason why we don't get a good discussion going here.

Stephen.
