Lentils. Houmous. Chick peas. There are tons of delish vegetarian recipes out there... And... fish is a wonderful source of lean protein, if you don't mind eating it :-) .

You don't have to cut it out of your diet entirely. Just eat less of it, 3-4 oz. Plus whole grains and lots of vegetables.
Make a stir fry using a little bit of sliced meat and lots of vegetables. Serve with brown rice.
Make a veggie rich pasta sauce, serve with a good artisanal bread and EVOO.
Vegetable and bean soups served with a good bread. And a fruit compote or fruit salad to follow.
Salad Nicoise uses a small amount of tuna, and some hard boiled eggs, plus potatoes, tomatoes and green beans.

I wont cut it out completely. Every time you turn around they are telling you something is bad for you, and then they recant it or tell you the direct opposite.

I tend to use a great deal of chicken and turkey, they are relatively inexpensive and can be substituted into just about any recipe that calls for any other meat. Fish is also a good substitute to cut down on red meat and pork.

I can understand cutting out red meat, but what's wrong with pork?

The report said -
"people who eat a lot of red and processed meats have greater risk of developing bowel and lung cancer than people who eat small quantities."

i think the pork is in the processed meat catagory - things like bacon, sausage and hot dogs.

Red meat and processed meats contain a large amount of fat.  So eat lean red meat and lots of veggies and whole grains.  Vary your meals with other lean meats, poultry, and fish.

DesFIP had it right 3-4 oz is a serving size.  That's a quarter pound - about the size of a deck of playing cards.

Chicken!  Much more versatile than red meat.

Ground turkey in place of ground beef.

I seriously doubt I would ever find Lentils, Humus, Chick peas a very adequate substitute for meat of any kind.

I would really love to know if this meat in the study was hormone or antibiotic free, organic, grass fed, ect.  I suspect the study excluded those types of meat, which makes the study slanted in my opinion.

(And people wonder why I prefer my red meat to be things like Elk, Venison, Moose, Buffalo, and Ostrich..... all considerably leaner than standard steriod and antibiotic and growth hormone injected feed lot beef that gets foisted off on the american public .... )

But pork is also available unprocessed, pork loin, pork steak, etc. and is much leaner than red meat.

The report was based on surveys of people who "remembered" what they ate and then those surveys were checked against who died of what.  It was purely a statistical coorelation*.  No actual testing or research into what the meat was or how it was prepared.

*A statistical coorelation does NOT prove cause.

Can anyone name a person who has survived life? We start dying the minute we're born.

Just remember OP, it is the other way also. There is always reports that contradict reports, the only difference is which report is in the spotlight today and if you wait a bit, tomorrow a new one will be submitted for people to run out and change their lives for.

Sheesh Owner,I think he was trying to say we are all in the process of dying.......of course putting it off as long as possible has a certain appeal, if for no other reason than in providing more opportunities to meet the many lovely Ladies of CollarMe.

I'm Firing Up The Grill!   Waiting for beef prices to drop when people quit buying it!

Now, if they'd give up beer, it would be a party!

ed to add:

When I go, I don't want to be thinking "Crap, I could'a had a fillet instead of bean curd."

I am not going to quit eating meat.

I believe in eating a balanced diet. That includes beef and pork.
