The report was based on surveys of people who "remembered" what they ate and then those surveys were checked against who died of what.  It was purely a statistical coorelation*.  No actual testing or research into what the meat was or how it was prepared.

*A statistical coorelation does NOT prove cause.

So, in other words, it was completely inaccurate and valueless.

Sheesh Owner,I think he was trying to say we are all in the process of dying.......of course putting it off as long as possible has a certain appeal, if for no other reason than in providing more opportunities to meet the many lovely Ladies of CollarMe.

And to drink more Jack.

(sorry, couldn't resist)

Ignore the report and eat meat and pork anyway.  People have been eating meat and pork for millennia.  "Reports" change every week.

Just remember OP, it is the other way also. There is always reports that contradict reports, the only difference is which report is in the spotlight today and if you wait a bit, tomorrow a new one will be submitted for people to run out and change their lives for.

That reminds me - is beer good for us or bad for us this week?

I attended the Houston rodeo over the weekend. In the petting zoo were several different types of farm animals complete with pigs, cows, chickens, goats etc.  I’m not a fan of zoos as I don’t like that we cage animals such as lions that in my opinion should be left in their natural habitat. Mind you, until the age of 7, I lived on a farm …okay, back to the rodeo…For the first time ever I came face to face with a Texas longhorn. He looked at me and I looked at him; eye to eye. He was followed by another longhorn and several cows. Here was this majestic creature; magnificent and beautiful.  I walked away from the rodeo feeling a bit uncomfortable.

The next day, my brother and his family invited me out to eat. The restaurant was cooking beef on the grill; grilled steak…arghhhh. I couldn’t eat it. On Sunday, there was an article in the paper about the veterinarians that work at the rodeo. In the article, they commented on how hard the veterinarians work on animals that would be sent to the slaughterhouse after the rodeo. I’m still processing all of this’ thinking about my place in the universe and “the natural order of things.” I’m not sure if I’ll give up beef and pork forever, however, for now, my neighbor received a gift of pork tenderloins, rib eye steaks and ground beef.

Steamed asparagus and shrimp was the fare for this evening.  We shall see.

Regards,
dovie

Consider how the meat is raised and slaughtered and prepared and then compare nutritional content before cooking.  Not all cuts of meat are the same quality or price.

i think the pork is in the processed meat catagory - things like bacon, sausage and hot dogs.

But pork is also available unprocessed, pork loin, pork steak, etc. and is much leaner than red meat.

Jeeez, try to reply to what people actually say instead of inventing crap to snipe at. There could be any number of factors that tend to cluster with a preference for a heavy red meat diet. The cause could lie with any one or some combination of those factors. A correlation does not prove that the correlate is the causative factor, or even necessarily a significant factor.

cutting beef and pork out of the menu - unthinkable ...my pet is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. however my girls and i have limited our in take of beef and pork to once or twice a month. i've been buying more chicken and fish these days because it's cheaper. also my oldest enjoys Indian food - i buy veggie meals for her.

not to disrespect dovie's comments or diminish her feelings re: her recent interaction at the Houston Rodeo, I always find it interesting when someone discovers that beef doesn't grow on a beef tree, but is actually the flesh of what was once a real live walking breathing creature.....even more intriguing is someone's reaction when they discover that yes, I really do enjoy going into the woods and shooting Bambi's daddy,,,most of the time it's absolute horror, and I've been called a savage, a murderer, a butcher,etc...most of the time I find their reaction amusing, sometimes I'm indifferent to their opinion of me, and once or twice when they get in my face I've gotten downright hostile

funny how someone who grew up on the streets of a city can in fact discover he has a recessive redneck gene
just waiting for the proper circumstances to bring it out

in the words of Hank Williams Jr. , "I can skin a buck, and run a trot line..."

lol Vincent...no disrespect taken. Considering I grew up with cows, goats, pigs, chickens, watched my grandmom wring the chicken's neck or swing the very sharp machete (ouch), the feelings evoked by looking in the longhorn's eyes suprised me. Shoot, it was my job to dip the chiken in the hot water and pull the feathers...anyhoo, we shall see. Have a great day Vincent...and that's a beautiful dog.

Regards,
dovie

As an eater of cute animals (lamb is my very favourite), I share your concerns, dovie. We eat meat in a senseless way, in our culture, and it's coming back to bite us in the ass. The meat eaters out there who have a knee jerk reaction each time a suggestion is made that so much meat of such poor quality, produced so unethically, can be bad for you, need to calm down. It's obvious that their blood pressure is way up there  . And we all know why  .

The meat production and meat packing business alone demonstrate how crazy meat frenzy has become. Have you ever seen what they do inside an abattoir? If that's not enough to put someone off meat, I don't know what is  . I won't even address the polution, the unsanitary conditions, the cruelty to the animals...

As a specie, we don't have to consume meat to survive. It tastes nice, and it does one good occasionally; but this need we have developed to have meat at every meal is unnatural and has created a horribly fucked up and cruel system, in my opinion.
