Hmm sometimes it is the word you choose to describe the phenomenon or state of being/mind.

This is from the Thesaurus on my laptop.

"gullible
adjective

he was a swindler who preyed on gullible elderly widows CREDULOUS, naive,
overtrusting, overtrustful, easily deceived, easily taken in, exploitable,
dupable, impressionable, unsuspecting, unsuspicious, unwary, ingenuous, innocent, inexperienced, unworldly, green;
informal wet
behind the ears, born yesterday. ANTONYM suspicious.

THE RIGHT WORD

Some people will believe anything. Those who are truly gullible are
the easiest to deceive, which is why they so often make fools of
themselves. Those who are merely credulous might be a little too quick
to believe something, but they usually aren't stupid enough to act on
it. Trusting suggests the same willingness to
believe a trusting child, but it isn't necessarily a bad way to be
a person so trusting he completely
disarmed his enemies
. No one likes to be called naïve because it implies a
lack of street smarts she's so naïve she'd accept a ride from a stranger, but
when applied to things other than people, it can describe a simplicity
and absence of artificiality that is quite charming the naïve style in
which nineteenth-century American portraits were often painted
. Most people
would rather be thought of as ingenuous, meaning straightforward and
sincere an ingenuous confession of the truth, because it implies the
simplicity of a child without the negative overtones. Callow, however,
comes down a little more heavily on the side of immaturity and
almost always goes hand-in-hand with youth. Whether young or old,
someone who is unsophisticated suffers because of lack of experience."

I've never actually seen one, Bounty. My grandfather killed himself in the family home after my grandmother died of cancer - he just didn't want to live without her. The room that was his ended up becoming mine when I had to return home to care for my mother when she became very ill. The room has his old bed in it, which I used, also his old tallboy in which I put my clothes. The tallboy is a typical old gentleman's small wardrobe in which are three shelves for socks, vests, underpants. Every afternoon at 3.55 the family would hear a small shuffle of footsteps creaking across the floor and heading into the kitchen. It never alters and it's the exact same path he'd take every single day to go and make himself tea - it was the only time of the day that he didn't mind sharing with other people. I keep my closets locked b/c of my cats as they are long haired and have a tendency to get into such places to sleep. One day the family and I were in the lounge watching TV when I heard lots of bumps and bangs coming from the upstairs room. We laughingly joked and said, "Grandad's run out of tea." The banging increased and we thought perhaps the cats were having a tussle with one another. After the fourth loud bang I got up to check on the cats only to find them sound asleep in the kitchen downstairs. I went back into the lounge and notified the family I was heading upstairs and they followed me up. We entered the bedroom only to find not only had the tallboy been unlocked, but the doors flung open, the drawers had been flung onto the floor along with all my clothes. No other persons were in the house or had access to it. My grandfather was a neat freak and admittedly, I hadn't folded up my clothes when I put them away in his tallboy. When the clothes were put back it was as he would have approved, folded neatly and nothing of that nature occurred again. Coincidence?

Wheldrake, I was bemused at the use of the term 'sub frenzy' given its overuse on the boards as of late. You're welcome to tea, if I make an offer it's always a genuine one, you'll hear him shuffle across the floor at 4pm and into the room next door (where the kitchen is situated), nothing more so whether that's worth a visit to the south coast and a cuppa/kitkat that's for you to decide. My boy has just said, "What are you doing, are you arranging an online seance now?" I must smack him for having the audacity to read my posts although that's terribly hard to do when one is laughing so much!

Sure they can be directly observed:

No, those are just observations of the physiological effects of love, or of the physiological process of memory. Those are not observations of memory or of love itself.

Okay.....last night I was sitting right here at my computer.  The stairway, which is one section going down, a landing, 180 degree turn, and rest of stairs down to the door is about 10 feet away from me.  I heard this loud crash, which sounded like something was knocked over and tumbled down the stairs, almost like a bag full of pots and pans.  It was LOUD.  I jumped up and ran over to see what fell down the stairs.  There was nothing there!  And no, it was nothing outside, it was too loud and clear....it was crashing down MY stairs.  But when I looked, expecting to see something lying in pieces on the landing....nothing.  Very strange.

Fast Reply -

Overall my experiences with departed ones have been positive or neutral.  When moving or spending time in a place with such energies present my demeanor is polite and respectful, same as if they were still in the flesh.

I worked in one house that was at least 100 years old and many of the staff had strange encounters or became uneasy in certain areas, particularly the basement. Two of us starting talking one time and both described the mental image of an older lady in the clothing style of the early long black skirt and a high buttoned blouse who seemed to have been a long term housekeeper there.  The back of the house had the servants quarters and the basement was where the energy was the strongest, in the area where food and supplies had been kept.

The one time something really unpleasant happened to me there was when opening an upstairs closest I could suddenly hear an unmentionable crying.  The only other person in the house was another employee on the ground level.

I found a family photo from that era with a lady wearing a dress similar to the housekeeper here -

I'll admit that my avatar hasn't been looking too well lately, but I think whatever banshee or poltergeist you sent my way clearly overreacted. After all, my avatar is nowhere near as disconcerting as, say, a small white mammal in a collar and giant padlock.

I read that ghosts are attracted to the dull and dimwitted.  If this was a universal truth, I wonder how many now would have proclaimed to have seen a ghost?

Why don't people see ghosts of famous actors?  You would think that one of these vain narcissistic fucks would come back and haunt someone.

I am being haunted by Richard Mulligan.  I think he left this world unfulfilled with the work he did on "Soap."

Hahaha again quite funny you truely are an entertaining read domiguy......

He was a stereotypical small russian jewish man, very set in his ways, governed by patterns of behaviour, ie mealtimes/tea had to be at specific times, he always wore a waistcoat over his shirt even during the summertime and everyone was a 'no good bastard'. He was damned funny though and his favourite tv show was Benny Hill. When I stayed in his room and got into bed at night for a read before sleeptime I'd sometimes feel the bed compress towards the end, almost as if someone had sat down on it, the covers would then be drawn tight over my legs and in that direction. If I moved my foot against it, it felt a hardened mass, but I still could see nothing. I would know it was him, he'd sat in that same spot hundreds of times over the years. Cats are very perceptive and when that happened, the male cat that's always with me would tunnel underneath the duvet for safety - that's his typical hiding place when he gets frightened. I'd only have to say, "Get off the bed, ya silly old bugger, I want to go to sleep" and sure enough, the mass would lift and I'd be able to move my feet/legs around in that spot again freely. What does puzzle me is why he remains. He was devoted to my grandmother, enough that he didn't want to remain without her and yet, remain he has or perhaps it's a memory of him that has. My stepfather now occupies the room that was once my grandfather's, my grandfather hated him and yet, he reports nothing untoward occurring in that room. Perhaps that's all it needed. Wherever he is, I hope he's able to watch the old reruns of Benny Hill, or perhaps he became the star in his own show, chased by a horde of nubile women. I think the sound people hear at 4pm each day is perhaps just a memory of him making his tea, albeit a nice one.

But if paranormal phenomonom is directly observed it's still hogwash?  That's not logical.

My dad, who is the most skeptical man on the planet was sitting in the livingroom watching tv and saw a female adult come out of the bathroom wearing a robe and a towel wrapped around her head, and she walked down the hallway toward their bedroom and he lost sight of her down the hall and turned his attention back to the ballgame.  Less than a minute later my mother came out of the bedroom and into the livingroom, dressed, hair done and makeup on, and asked who was winning.  My dad was visibly shaken and he said " didn't you just take a shower??"   Evidently the women he saw clearly was not my mother, the only other person in their apartment.  He directly observed this.  It was not romantic or having any special meaning, it was just a glimpse of a moment in time.

I know for a fact that voice and image can be recorded on magnetic media and played back to be seen and heard later.  Why not "ghosts"?  Why can't there be a increase in electro-magnetic field at a particular physical location that "records" a snapshot in time that could be a sound or an image or both, and then played back at other times in that location when again the electro-magnetic field is at that same level?  I believe this explains the majority of paranormal sightings or hearing voices, footsteps, etc.

I have also had personal experiences where such phenomonon would appear not to be just a recording, but a deliberate interaction by an entity I cannot explain.  And at one time this observance was shared by someone else who was with me so there were two people observing the exact same thing at the same time and yet direct observation of paranormal event is still hogwash?

Basically it's video about how your actually a magic ghost which farts fairy dust into your completely useless and pointless brain. Well actually it's anonymous using subtitles to mock a video which conveys that point...but you get the idea.

When I'm in any kind of a debate with someone, and they post a Youtube link instead of typing out an actual response in their own words, I don't waste my time clicking on the link. Why? Because I've learned that almost without exception, the link takes you to some childish video clip that the poster thinks is going to make some incredibly clever, biting point that they wish they were witty enough to make themselves, but just aren't bright enough. It seems to be the favorite tactic of teenage boys with limited verbal skills and short attention spans.

I really don't find it anywhere near as entertaining as the teenage boys seem to find it, so I don't bother clicking on them anymore. I see from your latest post that I was correct in my assessment. This has been a very civil discussion up until this point; why you suddenly decided to take it in such a childish and hostile direction is a mystery to me. But I'll certainly keep it in mind every time I read another one of your posts, when I'm trying to decide  how seriously to  take you.

littlewonder -> RE: BDSM Attracting...Ghosts...Spirits... (3/29/2009 7:23:53 PM)

I'm a very spiritual person but I don't believe in ghosts or spirits in the way you described or in the typical way that others do.

I would say what you describe sounds like a very drafty home. I would have an energy evaluator come into your house to check for air leaks which can come from even power outlets and can cause quite a lot of different sounds and for one to see things that aren't there.

That's a correct assessment, I am envious of anyone with enough charisma to actually get enough people to believe a bunch of tripe they made up that it becomes a major religion. Horribly evil, but still impressive.

I wasn't trying to be rude to you, but I have a hard time talking about the "religion" of said clip without some contempt coming through. However the fact remains that memories physically exist in the brain and they can be directly triggered during brain surgery: "Probing some areas triggered whole memory sequences. For one patient, Penfield triggered a familiar song that sounded so clear, the patient thought it was being played in the operating room." http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/mind/prob_pio.html So I really don't get what point your trying to make.

GotSteel -> RE: BDSM Attracting...Ghosts...Spirits... (3/29/2009 10:51:47 PM)

I don't want to derail this thread so back towards ghosts...  Memories, personality and cognitive ability physically exist in the brain and brain damage can destroy them. If someones brain dead they aren't walking around with a ghost brain, why would being unplugged from the life support machine cause them to gain a ghost brain?

Okay...I am not a purple crystal sort of person.  I don't generally buy into the ghosts, spirits, aliens, big foot, "We are all Starseed!....*ting!*" stuff.  I greet such things with a healthy dose of skeptic...

But.

My Lady's apartment has something in it that is not She, nor I, nor either of her dogs.  She has felt it, and now so have I.  One of her dogs acknowledged it this morning in a "stand there and just stare" as whatever it was came down the stairs as I was getting coffee.  There is a definable change in air and the feel of the area and I felt it as I went upstairs.  Then I heard a very clear noise in the bedroom from the bathroom and both dogs were downstairs.  No way it came from a window or wind or inanimate object falling.   My Lady has felt something get into the bed with her when I was out of the room.   It does not feel malicious at all.

Last night we played.  It was intense and emotional and energy was definately flowing.  And so it got me wondering...IF there are such things as spirits/ghosts/energy beings...might they be attracted to the strong emotion and energy exchange that goes on during a play session?

And have any of you ever experienced anything like this?   Or have I "gone 'round the bend" and should just check myself into Betty Ford right now?  [;)]

There are few boundaries between different types of perceptual energy in my world... unless I put them there.

As a twin I am fairly used to what others call ESP. It is, and was more profoundly as a chid, part of everyday life. I could also earn a living reading cards and tea leaves... my grandmother taught me. 'Second sight' is a gift that is genetically carried i THINK THROUGH THE FEMALE SIDE OF MY FAMILY... and..
yes deep and powerful exchanges of energy do attract non-everyday energies and a form of perception. Part of my sub=space is excatly that: spaced and quite different from everyday consciousness. Good for writing and creating and phone call type communication.
Maybe you have to learn to close down. Research ESP and closing down, or healing and closing down, or closing down rituals... any of these will enable you to learn a technique which will earth you and those energies around you again.
PS You don't have to be a 'crystally' type person to have this happen. I suspect that a far higher percentage of people have ESP type experiences which they do not talk about. Why are we so afraid of being different? Why is conformity the zeitgeist?
Edited to add: 'The intelligence of the heart'...transplant experiences..and 'Epigenetic' personality are two of the most fascinating pieces of recent research. At last there is empirical evidence of much of what was known as ESP.

aravain -> RE: BDSM Attracting...Ghosts...Spirits... (3/30/2009 1:44:23 AM)

It seems to be passed along my mother's family through the women too... my grandmother had 4 girls and 2 boys, only two of her children possess any 'talent' that I can tell, my mother and one of my aunts (I think she's the second youngest aunt, but the third youngest child).

None of my aunt's kids seem to possess any talent (or if they did I don't think they'd be able to 'tap in' anyway). I think because my parents didn't have any female children my brother and I got an overload for some reason. o.O Wish I had his talents, they'd make many things much easier in general. Then again, I wouldn't be sensitive to things like this, so I dunno *shrug*

Anywho, your suggestions are good ones, Prinsexx :)
