Status: offline 		Actually, the "19 highjackers" was a list of faces that the "FBI" blasted all over every TV channel in America.  The "FBI" said they could not verify any of them to be guilty, but that that 'was the best we had to go on'.  Furthermore, a subsequent followup produced information that at least 11 of those Arabic men were still alive and well, living in their home countries doing things like Dentistry, Engineering, Accounting, Surgeons and Professors.  www.LooseChange911.com

Couldn't agree more NG,the American public should be petitioning their elected officials,and doing so vigorously...binLadens head on a silver platter should be the refrain ringing in their ears.
Philo I decry my Nations many missteps....but this isn't Judge Judy's court room and bartering one case for another isn't on the agenda.....are you somehow suggesting Nicarauga or any of a dozen other situations you could cite negates the need for justice in this case?

Status: offline 		At no point does killing thousands of Afghanis while protecting our pipeline there justify spending the incredible amounts of money we've thrown at the occupation.  The U.S. taxpayers deserve better than this.

You seem to be confusing Iraq and Afghanistan....we are not in Afghanistan protecting a pipeline ....we are seeking the perpatrators and planners of 9/11

Very interesting point.  How many people were actually responsible for 9/11?  How many lives have been lost in the pursuit of this war on revenge?

When Timmy McVeigh blew up a bit of Oklahoma we didn't invade Michigan.  His ideas and those of his like minded brethren are still prevalent within this country.

We do bear some responsibility when we fund Isreal to the tune of some 6 billion per year...In the past that has equated up to/over 90% of our total foreign aid.

So how many bombs that are dropped on the Palestinians have our logo stamped upon them.  We cannot simply wash our hands of our allies actions and act like we have no complicity.

Does that mean we just do nothing while terrorists train in Afghanistan? No. We have to act to prevent them from taking action against us. In the meantime if we don't take part in a tremendously strong initiative in removing the poverty and the ignorance that permeates over this region which in fact nourishes a fertile ground for terrorism then we will never be safe.

At the same time I am incredibly leary of anyone that states Bin Laden is preparing another attack...I don't buy it.  How many times can you beat this horse?....Oh my God! the "terror alert level" has reached  the color chartreuse! we are doomed I tell you!!! Doomed!!!!

...fair enough, Rulemylife. Let me see if i can express myself a little clearer.

The 9/11 atrocity is highly emotional for Americans. As it should be. My home country has a few terrorist atacks in its history and they have a similar effect. What i was trying to suggest though is that if a response to 9/11 is predicated solely upon the concept of justice, then the US also has to consider that it needs to accept that other countries also deserve justice. i picked out the mining of Nicaraguan ports as an example. In the past the US illegally mined a foreign country's ports purely for ideological reasons. Just as the 9/11 attackers acted for ideological reasons. Both actions were wrong. Both actions cry out for justice. But to ask for justice for one of them while denying justice for the other is not justice.
If it is justice we seek, then one country's need for it does not trump another countrys need. Justice supercedes national interests. Slavemike wrote, "justice is what the American people demand" (my italics). i'd argue that the italicised qualifier is wrong. Justice is what all people demand and deserve. Not just the American people.

There is a difference between revenge and justice, otherwise we could say all criminal prosecution is just an act of revenge.

Yes, our foreign policy has serious problems, always has.

But that justifies murdering innocent people who just happen to live here?
