Hello all,
I too love movies. My first boyfriend was an animator. Now he works for Lucas Film. My last boyfriend has a brother who produces HBO movies. An old friend has been in a number of movies - she's a professional singer. Because I have all these personal links to movies, one of my favorite parts of the show is sitting there watching all the names go by at the end. I've never really paid attention enough to FIND my friend's names generally, but I love thinking about all the people who are involved, people with creativity and passion.... something about honoring their work by sitting through the end of the list.

Hello Dolly - gets me out of a depressed funk every time... Barbra and Louis... wowie zowie!
Nine Iron - Korean movie where the main character doesn't speak. Very haunting.
Whale Rider - coming of age movie that everyone should see. Remember your heritage. Lyrically beautiful.
The Godfather - one and two. *I like three because Andy Garcia is nice eye candy but one can't live on candy alone.*
As far as the first two, they are about integrity, loyalty, protection. I know it's crazy, but I just love them. I'm starting to see some kind of correlation between that and Old Guard BDSM and Gor.... ask me in a couple months about that. thoughts are a-gelling.
The Mission - This movie changed my life. It was the first time I realized that there can be two paths to truth, two paths to God. I was about 20 when I first saw it. Last year I went to see the actual missions and the falls...
The Aristocrats - Wow. Just laugh your ass off funny. This is one of those - We Offend Everybody Films. If you can't handle it, get over it.

Rocky running up the steps of the Art Museum in Phila. Something about knowing that VanGogh's Sunflowers painting is behind those doors.
The haunting fog of Asia in The Last Samurai
Like Water for Chocolate (in Spanish with subtitles... don't get the dubbed version - it destroys the energy of the movie)
Shoog Avery in Color Purple "Do his bidness? Do his bidness?" and "See daddy, even sinners have souls"
The music of Hamlet by Ennio Moricone... Heck anything by Ennio Moricone - Cinema Paradiso... wow.
The wonderful chemistry between Nick Cage and Sean Connery in The Rock.
The joy of the people and the understanding in Saving Grace (sooooo worth seeing for it's silliness)
Looking for the American flag that pops up in pretty much every mainstream US movie. It's like Where's Waldo for movie geeks.
When I was a therapist I used to assign movies for patients to watch. We talked about the characters, the plot, the hopes the lessons. It was a great way to create a safe environment for people who didn't want to reveal about themselves but could put their thoughts onto other people. Also, I taught things like schizophrenia via A Beautiful Mind, bipolar via Mr. Jones, and obsession via Dangerous Liaisons. There's a whole wing of psych dedicated to this kind of intervention.
When I joined a 12 step program, I knew that people places and things were what had to be handled and changed. I decided that I would go to 90 meetings in 90 days (did that two times back to back). It was horrible trying to get through those 6 months of beginning recovery. I came to an understanding of how to do it for me though. I went to the video store on my way home from work every night - went to meetings on my lunch hour. At the video store, I got 2 movies, went home, had dinner, watched the movies back to back, and went to bed. It was how I stayed sane. After six months of movies - gosh what does that add up to? 10movies a week x 26 weeks. wow.... - I was ready to be with people again. And I did ever so slowly and with great care, but I still went for the two fer Tuesdays... no cold turkey for me around movies!
Ohhh thank you for the topic. I do so love movies.... I miss that part of my life where I could go to the theater on opening night, see every movie nominated for an Oscar, share with my friends.. Movies have always been such an important part of my world. I remember the magic of seeing the very first movie I ever saw in a theater (Grease). I went back twice even though I knew I would be punished for it (waste of money seeing a movie twice I was told) but the magic and thrill were worth the punishment. I've loved movies from the very first...
