I"m such a movie geek that I love Mystery Science Theater 3K... Where they make comments and fun all through a B grade movie.

I started off college wanting to major in film and music.  As the years go by my tastes have changed and broadened quite a bit in both.  I still feel that rush when watching a great story or action sequence or spy thriller.

Now pass that popcorn.

My friends make wise cracks at the screen anyways.  It's extra fun if you have a really silly B horror movie on and have some good booze to share.

Hello thorny,

We do the same thing, critique the pornos while watching them and fooling around.  Makes for all sorts of silly fun.

porn from the 70's is the best,,the cheesy moustaches and sideburns on the guys, women still had pubic hair and real tits, and the music was hysterically bad

im a huge movie fan, have been since i was a kid. I've never lost the magical feeling of walking into a movie theatre, even with rising ticket prices and the prices they charge at the concession stand I still go a couple times a month, more than that when the prime movie seasons hit, summer and around thanksgiving until after christmas. Im also in love with the 5 dollar dvd tubs they have set up at Walmart, i've gotten so many old movies there that i remember seeing in the theatre years ago.....anyway, there are certain movies i enjoy so much ive watched them 20 times or more , so many times ive got dialogue memorized....some of those are the omega man , the thing [john carpenter's version, not the original starring james arness before he hit big in gunsmoke] , the fog [another john carpenter classic] , big trouble in little china, the crow , kelly's heroes , the wild bunch [probably sam peckinpah's best picture] , the killer elite [another peckinpah classic] , dog soldiers , man on fire [the denzel washington version] , and quite a few more,,,,,are there any films that speak to you enough that youve watched them numerous times?

Just one thought:

Paragraphs.

thanks, i'll take it under advisement and, after the committee decides, which should only take 30 or so meetings, an endless string of emails, teleconferences, various sub committees, more emails, a conference in Phoenix, I'll get back to you

I was surprised by how much the size of theaters had shrunk. Both were enjoyable, but I rather watch movies at home. You can pause for interruptions, and you can be sure that the only noises to be had can be controlled.

Yeah, much as I *love* watching a good movie on a big screen, everyone thinks they're in their living room, after watching videos at home, and they chat freely in the theaters, during the movie.  That has made it not worth the increasing expense and shrinking screens.

The exceptions are special showing, such as at conventions and film festivals, where people are more likely to be focused and excited to see the film.

Point Break, now there's a movie I've seen roughly 150 times, watched it every other day with friends in the summer of '93 or '94

Point Break!  Kathryn Bigelow rocks!  She did Blue Steel and Near Dark, by the way, also mentioned in this thread.

I may be one of the few that enjoyed Vanilla Sky, but even though Tom Cruise is in it, that is one of my favorites.

What?  Tom Cruise is a genius actor.  No matter what people think of him, off screen, no one can take that away from him.  I think I was most impressed with him, in Magnolia.

Your mentioning Vanilla Sky reminds me of Solaris.  That's an amazing film.  I hear the original Soviet film, Solyaris, is, too.

And Hitchcock is peerless.  He said some fascinating things about directing and storytelling, when you read about him.

Anyway, I mostly had to say, yes, Point Break!

One of the radio stations by me has what they call "Brew & View". Everyone goes to this theater in the city & they have a double feature. One older movie & one newer movie and they serve beer. Last week they played Die Hard and Hot Fuzz. I haven't seen Die Hard on the big screen in 20 years! Alan Rickman made the best villain!!

I have a wide range of tastes. Anything by the Farley Brothers to anything that Martin Scorsese directs is just the tip. I also like to see movies that are based about the 70's. Like Dazed & Confused or Almost Famous. Those movies have the best soundtracks and it's cool seeing those old cars.

It became fashionable to knock Tom Cruise as it did Kevin Costner and yet, people still see their movies. I, for one, am not ashamed to announce that I'll watch their films - People should see The Guardian, very good film.

As for Hitchcock, timeless. It starts with the mind and while people love to have a gorefest, I'm all about a good psychological thriller - few film-makers/producers have the talent these days to keep a person in suspense and on the edge of their seats without the inclusion of pig intestines.

Hitchcock will always be the standard by which other psychological thriller film makers are measured.

Reality and I have just finished watching Ong Bak II and highly recommend it, there are scenes in the film which literally took my breath away with their visual splendour and martial arts mastery.
