It is almost a toss up in my mind: Does this belong here or Random Stupidity?

I put it here because I doubt Ms Fridge of Texas City found it to be amusing.

The Galveston County Daily News

Alfred A. Decker IV, La Marque assistant fire marshal, cited Fridge on Aug. 4 when he overheard her utter the granddaddy of all expletives. Fridge, who was shopping for batteries with her mother and 2-year-old daughter ahead of Tropical Storm Edouard’s landfall, said “They don’t have any f------ more.”

Decker took Fridge to his car, handcuffed her and wrote her a citation. City Prosecutor Jay Brown dropped the charge March 19, said interim City Manager Eric Gage.

“After completion of his investigation to the facts of the case and existing case law, the state contends there is insufficient evidence to proceed and moves to dismiss,” said Gage, reading Brown’s comments on the decision.

What a waste of police blotter and handcuffs!

There have been occasions when I have been out in a public place with my daughters when some one or some group decides its ok to fuck this and fuck that. I think it would be a good idea to haul them down to the station and make them pay a fine or have their parents  pay a fine when they pick them up.

Better yet have them clean some public bathrooms... nothing like hands in a dirty toilet to clean the mouth.

Things like this piss me off. I am Fond of the word myself and choose to use it when it gets the point across and is warranted.

THAT BEING SAID.

This is a vast collection of Bovine Excrement! that is an outright ridiculous reason to arrest a person. The words one used, no matter how perverse, or inappropriate, no matter the people present, and yes I understand children were present, should result in ones freedom being restricted.

PEOPLE SWEAR, but they are just words, and yes words have power, but I get more agitated with what the person who gets upset is willing to say themselves.

If you say

Fudge, Frick, Frack, Flip, Or any Variation there of My Brain hears “FUCK”

WHY…. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU SAID, it was the motivation behind the word, therefore it is the same word. However people who try to CLEAN it up that way like to try and stand on this moral high ground that they are somehow better because they are not willing to utter the word that society has deemed inappropriate.

FUCK THAT!

If you have an issue with the words being heard… Tough. They are words and as such must be defined. YOU as the Adult get to define those words to those who are NOT adults and set the president on what is okay or not.

And Don’t say that you can keep them from hearing those words because by the second Grade I knew ALL the naughty words and knew what each of them refered to… Because as children we are curious.

This is Retarded I hope the cop loses his job for abuse of power. Because the woman did NOTHING illegal to be handcuffed like that.

This is why no one takes Texas seriously.

But seriously. This scares me. Wasn't Texas trying to make it illegal to insult the islamic faith? (I mean in the last week or so?)

Did you say anything to the persons doing the public cussing when it happened?

StrangerThan -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 5:17:23 AM)

I read a piece a while back, dunno how far back, a while where a guy was arrested and charged for using the N-word. If I remember right, he was fined and had to pay the fine or face jail. Do you see it as the same?

Just curious. I always wonder who will kill free speech first, conservatives or liberals - and yes, I know free speech is more attuned towards the press than individuals. Personally, I got no beef with anything people say in public. I just choose where my listening station will be, i.e. within earshot or not if I don't like what I'm hearing.

pahunkboy -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 5:42:15 AM)

I am afraid I agree with the law on this one.

Locally we have alot of incidents at the Walmart- most of which dont appear in the paper.

Peoples manners, in public have become  boorish.    When I am shopping or in public- I dont care to hear profanity or any number of obnoxious outbursts.

As a culture we are going backwards in manners.  Only months ago a Walmart worker trampled to death.

When I start seeing polite people in public again, then I will agree that her outburst was warranted.  But for now I see rude people with no regard for others.  Sorry.

I didn't even know fire marshals could arrest someone.

But, put a little authority into some people and they abuse it.

I agree.

i think the bolded part of this quote explains a lot.  i don't curse in my home around my children, and i don't let others do it either.  Yet, i can imagine being in a store prior to a Hurricane and expressing frustration when i find they're out of batteries.  Particularly with a grandmother(most likely nagging, being under stress herself) and a tiny toddler underfoot.

Of course this assistant fire marshall went completely nuts.  And i doubt this mother of a two-year old routinely uses the f-bomb around her tiny one.  It sounds like a case of stress causing two individuals to do things that neither of them would have done under ordinary circumstances.

a tropical storm on it's way and he didn't have anything better to do? [8|]

I admit the impending storm would add a degree of panic. And one should not be punished based on it.      The charges dismissed.   The fireguy doesn't sound too professional.

The idea of manners in public is a desirable one.   Executing it is abit harder.

The fireguy took out HIS aggression/panic on her. So that isnt good either.

Anytime I see a headline such as the OP, I wonder what the underlying intention is.

Maybe I dont appear to have manners in public.  Especially since I am ALWAYS in such a hurry.

The thing is- in a public space, semi public place- my rights, do not mean I can disregard that others are using the space as well.   Nor the reverse.

i just read my post

i mean that i see what he did as crazy, not that i defend his behavior.  i hope that's clear.

twoisnotenough -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 6:42:15 AM)

Should the person have said it, out loud, in public around children and who knows who else? probably not, its rude and uncalled for. HOWEVER. I will not Ever justify removing anyones right to say or express anything no matter my likes or dislikes to it. Freedom of speach is exactly what it says.. in original context its not about offending anyone.. . they dropped it for lack of evidence? Bullshit! they would have gotten into a first ammendment battle that would have ended up dragging them through the mud. attorneys would have come out of the woodwork to take that case for free.

twoisnotenough -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 6:43:34 AM)

omg i misspelled freedom of speech. sigh

Owner59 -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 6:44:52 AM)
