Sorry to hear that tulip...wanna go to Homo Depot?

NYLass -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 6:52:10 AM)

Considering it was in Texas, I'm surprised she isn't on Death Row right now.

There's a time and place for using language like that.  Certainly not in WalMart.  Now K-Mart?  That's a different thing altogether?   Like Dustin Hoffman says "K-Mart sucks".

Removing tongue from cheek now.

Would be kinda interesting to know in what tone of voice she used, whether she muttered the F word or did she say fuck in frustration, anger, annoyance etc? I confess to saying fuck in Walmart many times from rude people trying to run me over with their carts (most;y the blue rinse crowd).

I am afraid I agree with the law on this one.

Locally we have alot of incidents at the Walmart- most of which dont appear in the paper.

Peoples manners, in public have become  boorish.    When I am shopping or in public- I dont care to hear profanity or any number of obnoxious outbursts.

As a culture we are going backwards in manners.  Only months ago a Walmart worker trampled to death.

When I start seeing polite people in public again, then I will agree that her outburst was warranted.  But for now I see rude people with no regard for others.  Sorry.

Oh come on now PA!!! I am all for good manners, I dispair the loss of them and have been known to chastize people for bad manners, even complete strangers. BUT.....bad manners is not a legal issue.

If so, who is going to determine what is good and bad manners? Are you going to have a vote? Are you going to elect a "City Manners Manager"? Are you willing to pay their salary? The additional costs in enforcing these new laws? So, when you come out of the grocery store, someone bumps into you causing you to drop your groceries, breaking your eggs and sending your oranges rolling, you utter a "fucking hell" under your breath and the woman with the 3 yo behind you calls 911 and you are arrested......it's still a good idea?!?!?

Oh no.  I was with you (and Alex Jones) until now.  You trust the police to evenhandedly enforce standards of "polite society??" They aren't doing very good with the constitution itself, are they?

In a public/semi public space. I do not have a right to be disorderly.   Nor do you.

Should it be heavy handedly enforced.  No.   Should it be a policy to encourage yes.

The TV argument is lacking.  TV needs to be cleaned up as well.      The point is- we SHARE these spaces with others.

At the rate we are going tho- a machine will control everything.  Even if the machine is wrong.

I dont know if there was an issue between the fireguy and the lady. Its possible.

No one is perfect.  One should attempt to get along with others.   It isnt all too different from crapping on the floor and expecting others to not mind it.

Swearing is our last bastion of fun in an increasingly regimented society. I'm always amazed how the swear words are beeped from television shows, whilst acts of extreme violence are shown in their integrity. What's wrong with the word shit? Doesn't everybody shit? What's wrong with the word fuck? Aren't nearly all of us the results of the fuck act? What's wrong with screw? What's wrong with cunts? That's where we all come out of. What's wrong with cock? The Pope has one. Etcaetera, etcaetera, etcaetera...

Consider tho- that Malls and Walmart have their policies.  The management can set the rules.

Being free doesnt mean one has the permission to upset apple carts.      It carries a responsibility as well.

In general the police have better things to do then to tend to unruly shoppers.   Next time at a mall- read the list of rules.   Then ask- who decides that- etc.

Maybe the lady had a bad day.  There are dozens of ways the tone might have sounded.  We dont have an audio of it.

The golden rule is pretty basic.

It sounds like a case of stress causing two individuals to do things that neither of them would have done under ordinary circumstances.

Now see, if you're going to try and be reasonable you'll take all the fun out of this.  [:D]

FullCircle -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 7:13:53 AM)

-FR-

This isn't anything new we had a similar story the other year with someone on her phone speaking to a third party use the F word with a police officer walking along the street behind her.

Although I find certain words distasteful I'd like to know who decided they should be unlawful, are we not permitted to say certain words if so what is the point of the existence of these words? What next hell….Darwinism?, these kinds of abuses of powers by the holy right make me very concerned for the future.

The other day this pisshead on the train was using the F word in every sentence he spoke and believe me I'm not exaggerating about that, I kind of pity the man because there are so many other words to use for expressing yourself and he had obviously got into the behaviour of swearing for effect because at some point in the past he had won approval for it. If he'd seen the faces of the commuters around him he'd revaluate perhaps but then again he was a pisshead.

Also how the hell do you handcuff a fridge in this day and age, I’d like to see that image.

MissJanice2 -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 7:17:08 AM)

I work for Walmart's competetion, and if I was on the jury, I would go with the law suit the woman is probably going to start.  I had two different sets of small children slap their mothers in line at  my register yesterday.   The customers behind the mothers were baffled by it.
I know if I had done something like that I would not be here to tell about it.
This woman was within her rights especially since she was not making a scene.

Cashiers of America must unite!  lol

There have been occasions when I have been out in a public place with my daughters when some one or some group decides its ok to fuck this and fuck that. I think it would be a good idea to haul them down to the station and make them pay a fine or have their parents  pay a fine when they pick them up.

Better yet have them clean some public bathrooms... nothing like hands in a dirty toilet to clean the mouth.

Butch

I agree.

I mean what the fuck is that all about?

I would have taken their fucking asses straight to jail.

Thanks rule...we should draw up some signs and have a march...maybe I can get my hero Rush to join in.

No more fuck
      Or
Pay a buck

Did you just say fuck, cock, cunt, shit, and screw in the same paragraph?

George Carlin is looking down at you and smiling right now.

DarkSteven -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 8:34:25 AM)

Some historical perspective from a comedian POV:

Lenny Bruce was repeatedly arrested for cursing during performances in the 1960s.  Nowadays it's become commonplace for comics to curse onstage - George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, and Richard Pryor come to mind.

Note that the court declined to hear the case.

I hope that fire marshall gets fired.  He'd be checking buildings for code compliance while fires were raging.

kdsub -> RE: Woman handcuffed and cited for using F word in Texas Walmart (3/28/2009 8:38:37 AM)

Just be aware that in at least one state public profanity is against the law..and it could mean a trip to the station and a lightening of the wallet. It could be yours.

You must have a different kind of fire marshal, our fire marshals are power hungry office workers that like ordering people about and wearing luminous waistcoats. I don't know any with handcuffs, but then what they do behind closed doors is none of my business.[8|]
