Politesub53 -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 11:05:11 AM)

Hi Bounty. Try going to Control Panel.... add/remove programs. Then highlight the program and click where it says change/remove.

MsFlutter -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 11:08:03 AM)

I ran into a similar issue. I first attempted to 'repair' the installation but got no love so I over-wrote the existing software with another install of it - THEN successfully removed it thru 'add/remove software'.

Hope this helps :)

Download security task manager on a 30 day trial. That may well remove it, as i have used it to remove trojans ect.

Failing that, put your feet up and have a beer. [;)]

Bounty,

Telling everyone you are computer savvy and then not telling
us what operating system you are running.???? I will guess windows something.

Go to this site; Diamond Software. These guys from down under are very bright.

Go to software, and freeware and you will find a lot of cool stuff. The programs
you need to stop a program from starting the next time you boot up, a program
to remove it, and a program to stop anything from writing to your registry without
your permission. All no charge.

Everybody still runnning windows should know about this site.

kdsub -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 11:39:39 AM)

I guess if all else fails you can download a registry editor.. Back up your existing register... then run a search and delete any entry with the program name in it.

By the way.. have you tried going back to an earlier restore point?

MadAxeman -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 11:56:19 AM)

Outlier has a good idea. I would google 'freeware' or access download.com to find a dedicated software removal tool. Always useful for broken progs. Viruses will use your existing software for access, corrupting exe, update and uninstall files to secure continued entry.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 12:02:32 PM)

TY guys, Diane says that she can fix it we shall see..B

outlier -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 12:09:34 PM)

MadAxeman,

I thank you for your endorsement but I did not mean Google freeware.

I meant the freeware avaliable on the DiamondCS site. I have used their
free programs for years and saved many a computer and prevented many
a problem because of what they give away.

I am about to set up a new machine. I will first go to their site and download
some of their free software. Then without opening the programs I will burn the
downloads to a cd. I will load them before the new computer gets plugged into
my network. I would not put a windowws machine on the net without thier stuff
installed.

I do most of my web work now in linux but I have to do some in windows, never
without the programs from DiamondCS. They are small free and many of them
come with the source code so you know they are clean.

I couldn't do that butch because the only start date was too far back and I would have lost alot of business info..B

Aynne88 -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 1:44:19 PM)

It should actually allow you to create your own system restore point Bounty and system restore does not effect documents or programs like excel or powerpoint, it has never effected any of my Quickbooks things either, it restores settings back to it's last know working configurations, e-mails and other applications are not affected at all. Trust me, I have done it dozens of times.[&:]

OrionTheWolf -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 2:49:36 PM)

Bounty, there is a microsoft installation cleaner you can down load from Microsoft that may help. There are also a couple of companies, like Trend Micro, that have programs that uninstall troublesome programs.

FourQ -> RE: COMPUTER PROBLEM (3/30/2009 2:58:59 PM)

BH,
Had similar problems in the past where a power cut corrupted the software that was running at the time.  Ultimately I had to remove the files in My Programs and hack the registry to remove all traces of the program, including but not limited to, the company name.

I know you said you're IT savvy so if (and only if) you're familiar with registry editing I'd remove all traces of the software that way and reinstall after backing up the DB files.

If you're not up to speed with registry editing, drop me a note and we can discuss remote support.

Hope this helps

Edit : Just in case, you think you'll 'have a go' at registry editing (and I've fallen victim to this myself) don't forget to back up the registry just in case. [;)]

You are more than welcome BountyHunter and thank you for
getting back to me and letting me know it worked for you.
I go there every so often just to check out what's new.

Being in the business you are/were I am sure you understand the
value of being prepared. DiamondCS has great programs for that too.

Enjoy and play safe.

Ummmmm.....gee.....have you tried looking thru the folders of the program itself to see if it has it's own UNINSTALL file to run? Most programs contain their own uninstall routine.
