BH, Had similar problems in the past where a power cut corrupted the software that was running at the time. Ultimately I had to remove the files in My Programs and hack the registry to remove all traces of the program, including but not limited to, the company name. I know you said you're IT savvy so if (and only if) you're familiar with registry editing I'd remove all traces of the software that way and reinstall after backing up the DB files. If you're not up to speed with registry editing, drop me a note and we can discuss remote support.
