I second the knee pads idea.

It's funny, but they really are the best equipment to have if you are spending a lot of time on your knees.

Other than that, though, small area rugs are nice. Small enough that you can get nice ones without spending a fortune, and portable so you can roll them up and store them or move them around if you wish.

Pleasant memories can become associated with a small carpet like that.

You can have different strategies for different areas of the house: pillows in the bedroom and living room; rug elsewhere, etc.

akisha -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (3/31/2009 10:37:52 AM)

We have area rugs and nice coloured pet beds (the ones that look like really big pillows) around.

Even a thick blanket helps if folded under you if you are sitting on the floor beside the couch or something.

From a biological perspective, I would take the knees into account. They're terribly delicate for crawling. Especially if expected to crawl as quickly as a dog can walk. Knee pads may have been suggested comically, but it's not a terrible idea. Foam carpentry pads really do wonders.... I was on my knees packing boxes away for about 4 hours last week and with knee pads, it felt great.

They make a type of knee pad for wrestlers that works really well, too. You can pick them up at any large sporting goods store. It's a neoprene sleeve with a thin layer of foam padding in the front. Because it's made for active sports, you can wear it all day, with only an occasional readjustment for slippage. And it even comes in black!

Lockit -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (3/31/2009 11:01:38 AM)

I think the pillows and such have been covered, but would like to add what I do for those older or with those old football knee's...  I love stools and benches... low enough for me to look down at my submissive where he can sit next to me rather than kneel when it is a longer period of time that I want him in a position next to me.  This way the knee's don't suffer and yet we can have a similar postion and its benefits.  Once a knee goes out.. it can lead to a lifetime of suffering, so I am very cautious about it.

I also have a firm memory foam pad if needed.  I used a mattress pad and cut it up to make different sizes for different needs or uses and you can make covers for them that would prevent pet hair from being a problem.  (Or even zippered pillow cases.)

[One of those situations where I spoke before I fully engaged my brain. So what do all of you tile and hardwood lovers do?
[/quote]
I have found that even when I think I've engaged my very capable brain that he surprises me w/things I haven't considered.
You also made me realize as we look for new houses to make sure there is a carpeted room for myself and possible visitors. The practicalities of bdsm...sigh*****.

Personally, mist...I like the hardwood and tiled floor idea, with cushions...and a nice plate of R.M.O. as an appetizer for everyone, e

Hmmmm.....I wonder how they'd go with rice? Being the good hostess that I am and all.....Persephonee can have my share.
Now see, mist...there ya go again, trying to avoid a tasty delicacy.
In all seriousness, since I like a submissive lower than me as part of my own ritual/protocol, that means either on their knees (knee pads, pillows and/or rugs) or an awful lot of time spent laying on my lap or against my chest.  The last does work well in casual one-on-one pretty situations.

kiwisub12 -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (3/31/2009 12:27:51 PM)

My Sir is nice enough to take my advanced age and general state of decrepidness into account - and lets me sit on the furniture - unless we have guests, in which case, its the floor!   I would love hardwood floors. So much easier to keep clean  -  and so much cleaner than carpet.

As for keeping dogs off pillows - pugee spikes!!!!  They'll only try it once.   And as for the RMO - sounds like a sub punishment to me!  Maybe you could slip them to the dogs!,  who if i am any judge, would love them (they spend a lot of time trying to get to their own after all).  [:D]

Just be thankfull that the floor is not compacted earth, compacted sand or raw cement.......

Or red-hot coals!

The wrestling knee pads sound like a good suggestion... If nothing else, don't get the cheap foam-only ones that are meant to go over jeans- they can cause some very unpleasant blisters on bare knees after an hour or so of fast crawling.

LOL CD, I've successfully avoided that particular delicacy for the last 46 years....I'm hoping to avoid it for another 46 or so.

Sir doesn't really ever require me to kneel for more than a few moments or so. I have arthritis in my large joints and it's most pronounced in my knees and hips...so we are pretty realistic about it. I just like to sometimes and I do like to sit at his feet. I like the floor pillow idea a lot.

Persephonee can have your *share*....let us ponder that for just a sec....OKAY!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, the kneepads can be bought cheaply in that neutral tannish, off white color and dyed to black or whatever color you would prefer. The most sadistic Master i know insists his slave wear them when shes on hard surfaces...once she was all puppied up for the entire night at the dungeon and other than sneaking her off to feed her pizza (in character)...i did note and appreciate the fact that her kneepads were part and parcel of her getup...she even had that cute leather muzzle/nose/protruding tongue thing on her head...i had to remove it to feed her...and then i ended up in trouble for breaking her diet...apparently she was a show dog that nite...who knew?

I hope you are taking glucosamine/chondroitin.  If not, you should be.  After 30 yrs of working on people, my hand/wrist joints gave me a bit of trouble until I started taking it a couple of years ago.  The research is right...

Yeppers [;)]

And don't go trying to convince me that R.M.O. are naturally high in glucosamine/chondroitin either!

loveandlight87 -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (4/1/2009 8:05:24 AM)

Maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet this morning, but what is R.M.O.?

I love my hardwood floors.  Like other's have said, easy to clean and they look beautiful too.  Cool in the summer.  I've made a little mini bed before, blankets folded up and piled on top of eachother with the prettiest on top.  That was for a specific function though.  Pillows and area rugs, especially the area rugs are good.

kiwisub12 -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (4/1/2009 4:52:56 PM)

ROM would be Rocky Mountain Oysters   -  or bull balls.  I'm told that people actually eat them   -   but not me!
I'm not sure that even the Chinese eat them, and they , like Mickey, will eat anything - witness fried duck feet.[8|]

DesFIP -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (4/1/2009 7:05:20 PM)

If you keep the floor pillows in wicker baskets, the dogs won't lie on them.  Of course, my last dog never used her dog bed, so I did. I found the thick edge of it was perfect for my knees. And since I was covered in dog hair anyway, a little more didn't matter.

catize -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (4/1/2009 8:13:30 PM)

Exercise mats!  You can keep them stashed in a closet or someplace when not in use---best kneeling surface ever!

loveandlight87 -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (4/2/2009 7:17:55 AM)

Thank you kiwi! and eeew!

AlexandraLynch -> RE: When you've made your bed (or floor)...then what? (4/2/2009 2:25:53 PM)

I have hardwood throughout the house (for the tumbleweeds of cat hair) and area rugs and, when the coven meets, we have floor pillows to sit on to cushion us. I have made it clear to our girl that if we are simply sitting round watching TV or talking, she is welcome to put a pillow between her ischia and the floor. If she doesn't, then that's her choice.

Ok, so I've stuck my foot deeply into my mouth....

I've convinced Sir that the way to go is hardwood and tile throughout the house. But now I've got to thinking...
It is ME who is going to have to be kneeling and sitting on all that hardwood and tile! Do I invest in a good set of knee pads, throw pillows, resign myself to perpetual agony??? Not to mention that when we host parties my pain will be shared by many others.

One of those situations where I spoke before I fully engaged my brain. So what do all of you tile and hardwood lovers do?

http://store.irobot.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2666938&cp=2804605&ab=CMS_IRBT_StoreHome_122608_ScoobaText

I have all hard floors.

I have 5 of the robot vacs...push a button 3 times a week...they go clean, run back to the charger...push a button....etc.....as soon as my remodel is done...I'll have 5 of the floor scrubbing robots as well.

(It's the way to go).
