things changed with US- Europe relations the past 2 years.  Bush, Germany and France started getting along.

It's so stupid to talk about countries as if they had minds of their own... So limited and meaningless. You have had a French president who was ready to let Uncle Sam fuck him up the arse with no lube, so of course, now, you think France gets on with America [sm=highfive.gif].

I think you may be mistaken there...Bush often spoke for the minority but still made policy that has against the wishes of the majority. Men with the power to act have a very large influence on world events. It only takes one man to push the button...makes no difference what you or I think.

My point is that nations do not have minds of their own like individuals do. I don't see how anyone can argue against such a simple truth.

Even that "simple truth" depends on what you mean by a "mind". A nation, or any other society, is an evolving organism just as its simplest component..a human with a mind...is. The population is akin to a bunch of neurons firing, and the "mind" of the nation is the net sum of the actions of those neurons. Nations have personalities, nations affect their environment. For all intents and purposes nations have minds.

And since no one knows what a "mind" or "consciousness" or "thought" is, to distinguish between the "mind" if a human and the "mind" of a nation is futile.

Hmm how to put this......................i'm more excited about Obamas visit than i am about doing the washing tomorrow, but less so than i am about seeing vin diesel in the new fast and furious film [:D]

Politesub53 -> RE: And Now for Something Completely Differnet... (4/1/2009 4:08:10 PM)

Obama said he is here to listen and not to lecture. It seems France and Germany want less stimulus and more regulation. I think there will be some sort of compromise.

The big news today is America and Russia have agreed to start talks about reducing nuclear warheads. They will also talk about Irans nuclear ambitions.

The outcome of those talks is pretty predictable.

I disagree, given the re-emergence of cold war actions/thinking. Maybe it was predictable for you, though. Maybe you're privy to more info than am I.

[Edit to add this, which just popped up on my news ticker: Russia has agreed to discuss the transit of American military supplies to Afghanistan across its territory. ]

Actually, I think all of this is pretty historic and engaging, given the global struggle...I'm shocked, actually at how, I don't know, boring this seems to so many there.

It's delightful to not worry like I did with Bush that he would actually open his mouth and say something.

Nobody...would make Bush look good.

Im not privy to any more information than you. Russias GDP at its low for several decades, the value of supplying Iran with nuclear capabilities.

Follow the money.
