Dishwasher is far more efficient user of water then doing it by hand. Modern ones are energy star rated.   Do you want to waste water???? ;)

I'm sorry, but I seem to be confused. Can someone please copy and paste the part of the law that says people are required to use dishwashers instead of washing their dishes in the sink? Because I can't seem to find it.

I can't believe I'm the only one here who wants to go wash Kittin's dishes....oh wait she's asking for money for an automatic dishwasher....never mind.

No no, Mike! Come here and wash the dishes! You can even vacuum, do the laundry, clean the bathroom, dust the bookshelves, wash the floors, iron the clothes... COME!

One thing though: I refuse to make you wear a french maid's outfit [8D] .
Well,if that's your position I'll just stay in North Carolina.....I'm not giving up my french maid's outfit for anyone!

That depends upon who is doing the washing and how. I guaranfuckintee my hand washing uses less water than the most energy efficient model of dishwashing machine.

After doing a little research online just now......it appears that dishwashers are energy hogs and very wasteful as far as water consumption. Most use approx 12 gallons of water to do a load. That does not include any pre-rinsing a person does before putting the dishes into the washer.

I will stick with my handwashing and Dawn, thank you very much!

True. First, no need to completely fill the sink. Secondly, wash the glasses first, going up from the least dirty to the dirtiest crockery: wash the pans last. Only run the rinse water when necessary. Don't overdo the detergent. It's an artform [&:] .

Well first you need to get an apron,so you don't get your maids uniform all wet.

LaTigresse -> RE: Liberals cause Detergent smuggeling (4/1/2009 11:18:21 AM)

Pffftt, I just do them naked! If I get splashy I don't need to shower.

Now THAT is conserving water and soap!

Not to mention..........the floor gets cleaned also. If I am lucky, the dogs or cat have gotten a shower also.[:D]

Personally, no. I don't have any strong desire to waste water. But this is one of those questions where people just have to decide which way they'd rather be screwed, and the state of Washington has apparently decided that they'd rather use more of their water than pollute their water. They evidently feel they have enough water that they can afford to make that choice. I would imagine people in Arizona would make a different decision.

Normally I don't like doing dishes, but given that I'm always willing to make sacrifices in order to support people who make environmentally responsible decisions, I want to to go on record as saying that I will help you do the dishes anytime you like.

MmmK!! You do the dishes, I will be off riding, gardening, watching tv....something or other. (I hate doing dishes......)

Same here. I fill the sink and let 'em soak in straight hot water until the water cools enough to put my hands in, then I wash and rinse under hot running water. Turn the water off between dishes, and I doubt I use more than 3 or 4 gallons a day for the whole process.Gets 'em a hell of a lot cleaner than any dishwasher I've ever seen, too. Why, people have often remarked to me that my dishes look almost clean enough to eat off of!

Soapy tit wank.

LaTigresse -> RE: Liberals cause Detergent smuggeling (4/1/2009 11:29:31 AM)

I do that also!

I even have an order in which I wash each type. First silverware and plates, then glasses and cups, then sm bowls, then plastic and misc large bowls with greasy pans last.

I fill the sink with silver and plates, wash and set in other side, rinse all at once. Same with bowls etc. I use very little water, which is the goal since we pay hugely for our water where I live. Minimum usage ( 3,000 gallons month ) water bill is now $ 50.66/month. Even if you use 2,000 gallons. If you go over......god help you.

Of course it's not required, but hand washing dishes is not exactly a chore most enjoy.  It's not required that you wash your clothes in a machine, but most people don't stoop over a washboard all day once a week anymore.  Speaking for myself, I'd rather paint a house than wash dishes.  I hate it, hate it, hate it.  I can still remember standing over a sink for hours as a teenager washing dishes at every restaurant job I ever had.  I won't wash dishes if I don't have to.  If I have a machine to do it; I will use it.  Yes these machines use detergents that differ from dishsoap for the sink.  Call me lazy, call me selfish, but I will use dishwashers.

I don't like it either, but in some areas this may fall into the category of one of those sacrifices people just have to make. There are some areas where entire ecosystems are being devastated because of too much phosphates in wastewater, and sooner or later something's going to have to give.

The world's an ever-changing place. Most people weren't all that happy when they took lead out of gasoline, either, but I still see bazillions of cars on the road every day. People may just have to adapt, unfortunately.

LaTigresse -> RE: Liberals cause Detergent smuggeling (4/1/2009 11:39:50 AM)

And, with a little computer help, I just discovered my trusty jug of Dawn is also phosphate free!

I'm green and didn't even know it!

12 gallons of water?? maybe old dishwashers but not modern energy star ones.

Vendaval -> RE: Liberals cause Detergent smuggeling (4/1/2009 7:57:43 PM)

I have used both methods.  The problem with a dish-washer machine is that by the time you get all the dishes cleaned up you might as well just wash all of it.  I use Dawn on the heavy grease items and other brands on the regular dishes.  Air drying does the rest. (I use dishwashing gloves to protect my hands from the hot water too.)

In a restaurant or high volume household a dish washing machine can make more sense.
