If manufacturers didn't get that kick up their arse, do you think they'd bother looking into manufacturing low-phosphate detergents?

And that is where the liberal mindset falls flat. People want what they want. Demand is demand. The people would likely not even care about the ban if the new shit worked and did the job just as effectively. Nice green electric cars are a nice concept but the cant match the power of and acceleration of a normal car. They don't do the job as well. And so most people don't want them. If you come up with green things that get the damn job done just as well then there is no problem. Green usually equals inferior results. Which is why people don't like it. I want results. Green or otherwise, I don't care.

all due respect to everyone who took part in this discussion, or who may take part in this discussion, but i find these debates entertaining....it seems to me that people on all sides of the environmental issue have totally missed the point,,they love to toss the phrase "killing the planet" around like some kind of fundamentalist mantra....the fact is, we're not killing the planet, we don't have the ability to kill the planet, even if we manage to blow our atmosphere so far into outerspace it escapes the gravitational pull of earth, life in some form will most likely survive,,,what we're doing is killing ourselves by altering the environment so as to make it unable to support life as we know it, and what will happen is some other form of life will arise that is more suitable to the new environment we created....perhaps if the "greenies" rephrased their battlecry they might make more of an impact ,,,and i firmly believe a book called "Fallen Angels" by Larry Niven should be required reading in highschool,,,if you have strong feelings on this issue, regardless of what side of the fence you stand on, you might consider reading it too,,,if nothing else it was interesting sci-fi
