Glad it works for you, just understand that there are large portion of businesses that have huge problems that they are having to spend extra money in IT to try and correct. Their alternative is to get new equipment that conforms to Vista. An example of this is older plotter printers used by graphic design and sign design companies. These printers are very expenssive and Microsofts answer is to replace them, since there are no drivers for them. Also, I like Linux quite a bit, as it is more secure and less problematic than Server 2000 or 2003, but there is also software that does not run on Linux servers, and/or very few good IT professionals that implement it well.

So in the main, Vista has caused huge problems in the small business area, and extra money spent because of these problems.

when government can tell a business what products it can make based on his individual preferences like Obama did with certain car lines.  Ignoring the fact those lines were actually profitable..... then anything can happen.

Since Obama is a big Mac fan and the White House is changing from IBM to MAC.  Why not just outlaw Windows???  Everyone hates Bill Gates right???  Its an easy boogeyman to attack.  Then you never ever have to worry about running into Vista or any other windows operating system.  WHy outlaw Vista....just outlaw its source and destroy microsoft ;)

Do you have a reliable source for this?

the company TheEngineer works for will NOT buy a vista machine.  why?  because NONE of the software they use will work on it.  none.  they cant use macs because no one makes the specialised design software for those computers, either.

vista might work well for some people, but....when you design an OS that is deliberately not backwards compatible with software programming, you're going to have a lot of potential customers *very* unhappy with you.

The market will drive the demand for/against Vista.  So many people now are moving to netbooks and unified devices (cell/web/etc systems) that many don't need all the stuff that's in Vista.  I think Vista & Win7 is a last gasp for the desktop in many ways.

Thank you.

My concern about such a technology switch would be for the expense of all new hardware, replacement software to conform with legal reporting and recording requirements, and training of White House staff not accustomed to the new tech. I would think, though, implementing Vista would offer similar issues as well.

But to tie this in with the OP, I still don't believe any OS should be banned. I agree that such an action takes the tools away from those IT folks who are knowledgeable about such things and puts the decision of which tools to finally use in the hands of politicians who are normally not up to speed. That's a recipe for nothing to work.
