FelinePersuasion -> Who likes horror movies? (1/28/2006 12:07:16 AM)

Does any one remember the name of that movie where it was about the first documented serial killer and he killed poeple and made outfits out of their skin and made lamps and stuff out of their bones? Was pretty neat I dunno I used to be a huge fan or horro at age 10 but now it's like take it or leave it, all though IT and candy man were the only two movies that left me fearing to use either the tub or the toilet.

siamsa24 -> RE: Who likes horror movies? (1/28/2006 7:02:13 AM)

The first American serial killer was H. H. Holmes or "Dr. Death" and there is a documentary film out by John Borowski, although he was a con artist and killed many people he did not make things out of skin or bones.
The killer you may be thinking of could be Ed Gein, he was also known as The Butcher of Plainfield, The Plainfield Butcher, The Mad Butcher and The Plainfield Ghoul.
Although he was more recent (the 80's) he fits the other profile information you have given.

Umm… Methinks siam knows waaaaaaaay too much.

I like a good scary film but not bloody slasher movies. I go more for psychological horror and realistic films like Silence of the Lambs.

I used to read a lot of H.P.Lovecraft, heh heh.

fergus -> RE: Who likes horror movies? (1/28/2006 10:52:32 AM)

I THINK the killer you are thinking ab0out is Ed Geine (sp?) ...

I can't say what the first movie was, but Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are both based in part on him.

texas chainsaw massacre?
i dunno

MY horror movies are old school
the mummy and frankenstein and...bela lugosi and vincent price and all them

thats GOOD filming!

NakedOnMyChain -> RE: Who likes horror movies? (1/28/2006 11:38:45 AM)

I'm a horror movie junky. Silence of the Lambs is about him too. (Not Hannibal Lector, the other guy.) Ed Geine unfortunately is a fellow Indiana native. He lived about forty-five minutes from where I live. Blind Melon wrote a song about him called "Skinned"... oddly enough one of my favorite Melon songs. It's actually really upbeat and funny. The whole thing is played to a kazoo, too.

I'll leave you with these parting words...

"<quiet talking..."At least Ed Geine would. Ed Geine was a very good fellow, you know.>

I'll make a shoehorn out of your shin. I'll make a lampshade of durable skin.
Oh, don't you know that I'm always feeling able when I'm sitting here
and carving out your navel. I'm just a'sittin' here carving out your navel.
When will I realize that this skin I'm in, hey it isn't mine?
When will the kill be too much meat for me to hide anymore?

Hey I could really use a couple of hands to complete one hell of a plantstand.
And oh, don't you know that I'm caught here in the middle
making rib cages into coffeetables. I'm just a'makin' them into coffeetables.
When will I realize that this skin I'm in, hey it isn't mine?
And when will the thrill be too much meat for me to find anymore?

Because you know I can't hide, but oh how hard I've tried. This is just the shape I'm in.
Becaue you know I can't hide, but oh how hard I've tried and this is just the shape I'm in.
<random kazoo>"

~Skinned by Blind Melon

Alright, now if you'll excuse me I have to go listen to some Melon.

lol, I wasn't listing it as a 'good' or 'bad' movie, merely trying to zero in on an answer for Miss Persuasion ;)

Frankly, I like Frankenstien as well, but more the book than the movie for mythological reasons.

Yes horror movies are great, my favourite scenes are when the psychopath is chasing the girl and she falls down when running away (she *always* does, shes a klutz like me) and looks back to see him approaching and tries to scurry backwards on her back..... HOT!

I have a facination with serial killers

I know, it's sick

IronBear -> RE: Who likes horror movies? (1/28/2006 8:58:15 PM)

Vampyre Movies I adore, even the bad ones, as for the rest? No thanks I've seen way to much hoprror in reality and read a number of the reports and in particularly the profilers reports of several serial killers... Sorry guys I'm boring in this... But in ficrtion, I'd say that Vampyres would pass muster as serial killers...... Why is it I have a facination for Vampyres and always wish that they existed and be given the chgance to be turned,,, Damnme if I wouldn't jump at the chance to regain health and vitality as well as imortality.... Hell yeah.

The more blood and gore...the better they are...at least in my eyes..

Though, I also do like the ones that rely on suspense only.

The only movie that still gives me nightmares to this day is The Exorcist.

/shudders

And it's not even the movie itself that scares me...it's the makeup on Blair........ewwwww they did way too good a job.

Interestingly lass, when it first came our in Perth Western Australia, it was necessary to have the St Johns Ambulance Brigade at the theater to give aid to those who were freakig out following the movie. I agreed at the time with other people in the know, that this movie shouldn't have been available to the general public. We have several suicides and more suicide attempts directly attributed ti the movie. My take? It is/was just a bitt to close to realism for my taste (A comment based on personal experience).

Straight out teen slasher movies are all the same. Gratuitous sex and violence. I like my gore served up with a little more thought and class. One of the recent thoughtful horror movies is Saw. You have to admire a guy who places his victims in situations where they must sacrifice something to save their own lives. I loved the movie The Ring because the story was interesting and although it didn't rely on gore, it played in your mind creating suspense and terror.

When I was a kid, I used to sit and watch Saturday afternoon TV and there was a local guy out of Philly who called himself Doctor Shock. He had Creature Feature and Horror Theater. Back to back old horror flicks. There were some bad ones, but most of them were very good films. For their era, they were very scary movies. Now it seems that we as entertainment consumers need our horror to be grizzly and brutal. I am not sure why that is because the best films combine suspense and gore.

Just my take on it anyway. Each film has its place for a different audience.

siamsa24 -> RE: Who likes horror movies? (1/30/2006 3:38:35 PM)

Saw was an excellent movie, I haven't seen the second one yet, but I really want to.
