The thing is that to me, until it becomes national, it really doesn't mean anything. Take for instance the case between Janet Jenkins and Lisa Miller. Wed in Vermont, had a child, then split. In Vermont it was a joint custody case. But when Lisa Miller moved to Virginia, taking the child, she took shelter in Virginia's laws. Effectively denying Janet Jenkins visitation with her child. As long as someone can move to another state that doesn't recognise all of the legal rights of the previous state, it really doesn't mean much. At least to me. But, there is the view that it really does have to begin someplace.
