ORIGINAL: Tamerofwild1s Here is the kicker . as a society in America we have become so "needy" <for lack of bigger words LMAO> on social status quo .... it's become all about the status .. we have forgotten the smaller things in life ... and we look down from time to time on those who don't have as being less then what they actually are. It's not a matter of "maintaining the status quo" or some sort of social status that makes me look at finances.... and more importantly, financial stability and willingness to get out and DO something. It comes down to both practicality, and having learned some rather harsh lessons in my past. I've dated guys... both dom and vanilla... who ran the gamut from insanely poor to insanely rich. The ones that I am still on good terms with - both rich and poor - are the ones who actually gave a flyin flip one way or the other about whether they were maintaining themselves. The ones that I detest, despise, loath, and consider less than human (as well as considering them significantly less than me, and a lot less than a man) are the ones who didn't even Try - they expected me to support them, so they could sit around and issue orders. They wanted me to work, hand them what money I made, then to play on that money rather than paying the bills - all while they didn't work, inside OR outside the house. While it may come across as judgemental, intolerant, or snobbish, I will ALWAYS consider people like that to be "less" than the rest of humanity, whether they're involved in BDSM or not. quote:
ORIGINAL: meatcleaver Surely if someone is rich, it's because they can handle money, even if they have earned it or not, if they couldn't handle money they wouldn't be rich, at least not for long. Not necessarily. Those who are rich enough, yet complete idiots in managing their own money, can always hire someone who IS good at it to do it For them. They remain rich, they continue to play the way they want, they have someone else do the "worrying" portion for them.
