Housesub, yeah, that was kind of rude wasn't it?
At least they could have called her in the office and done it face to face and assured her that when things turned around she'd be brought back or something like that.
But, they're architects not managers I guess.
That surely wasn't the way to handle the matter.

Plus, whenever I have been layed-off, I not only got a personal meeting BUT also a severence check. Westinghouse actually gave me a check for too much, do you think I returned it.....?

I was laid off and my former boss told me face to face. I put in 5 years of hard work for this place but I knew business was not doing well. He also gave me a month in advance to let me know what my last day was so I can try to get another job. It took me 6 months to find another job.

I just think that when people work hard for a long time, they deserve better than just an email but I believe in karma and who knows some other upper level management will get fired from his or her supervisor. Look what happened to head of General Motors, fired by the pres.

I refuse to accept a discharge via email.  I'd continue to work as though nothing had happened, and force them to speak to me in person.  If necessary, I could explain that I'd heard there was a virus that infected computers and caused them to send discharge emails at random, and I had assumed this was one.

That really sucks. Talk about adding insult to injury [:(] I'm sorry that she was fired -- and by cowardly losers, to boot.

Thanks everyone for your kind input.  Well here is looking to a bright future.

Now as the emotional end of it eases up a bit, She is looking forward and is going to relax for a week with our daughter and then start the job search.

There is 1 very bright spot, they had lost a large account shortly before they emailed her, the client they lost is in our home town and is very interested in talking with her beause she was the Lead on a past projects for the account they lost.  She has her porfilio(?) filled with all the plans from past designs the clients built and is working on meeting with this new firm.  So how knows, could be the best thing that ever happened to her.

I know everytime I have been let go, something better came along, you just have to seek it out.
