Hello gang. My top has recently expressed a desire to bullwhip me and I'm a little freaked about it. He says that it hurts less than a cane, which is somewhat reassuring, since I love being caned. But it creeps me out the way a bullwhip moves like a snake, and since it's so long and flexible I don't see how he can control where the tip will land. (I know of course, that people can and do control how whips land, but since I don't understand it I still have a visceral fear of it... the same way I know planes can fly, I've seen them fly, but I'm still not completely convinced that it's possible.) What have been your experiences with bullwhips... especially in comparison with canes, for those of you who have felt both? Thanks, Fiddlegirl

A wire hanger can hurt ten times worse than any of those...depending on how you use it. A toy is just an object. How it feels depends on who wields it, controls it and chooses to apply it. You can watch him practice, you can even learn how to use it yourself. Most of all, talk to him about the issues you have.

It takes l0ts of practice to be able to hit your marks with a bullwhip if he is not adept at using a bull whip i would suggest that he go out back and set up a target and practice hitting the target in the desired spot repeadily untill he master the use of the whip I remember when i was a kid going with my parents up to the mountains and on the indian reservation getting my first bull whip was just a short one but took a lot of time to actually master hitting what i wanted where i wanted later i got a full size one another thing to consider is the amount of open space required to actually work and use a full size bull whip another thing to consider is that a real bull whip will cut deep into the flesh

a toy can be used in many ways and can cause sensations from pleasure to severe pain . Its basically how its used.

It's the tip of the bullwhip that can dictate the pain. They are interchangeable, some soft and open feathery, others able to draw blood. Your Master needs to be experienced to know the difference.

You've already gotten the basic answer, which is it depends on how each is used.. but let me say, from being on the receiving end of both, both used at maximum intensity.. spanking - .5 delrin cane - 4 bullwhip - 8 Of course, that's all relative. I've got kevlar under my skin after all these years. lol Celeste

Thanks for your thoughts, all. Lucky Albatross' idea of getting my top to teach me to use the whip is interesting - that certainly might help with my phobia about it. As for the comments about aim and experience - you're right, no doubt, but I'm not worried about my top's ability to handle his end of the whip - I'm worried about my ability to handle my end of it. When I first experienced caning in real life, I found that it's reputation for painfulness is much exaggerated, and I hadn't needed to be so scared. So I was hoping that somebody would tell me that single tails aren't so bad after all - Bitatruble's comments were especially useful, even if they weren't what I wanted to hear. Fiddlegirl

OK I'm a competent bullwhip player, I have felt the whip myself both by accident and once with someone hitting me as part of a demo. Where to put it on your scale of pain is tough to say, as said a couple times the singletail whips can be as soft as a brushing with a string or as severe as a cutting of the skin, drawing blood. Now as for your confidence in his competence nothing beats a demonstration of skill on a target to build your confidence in the whip handler. If he can hit what he wants to and more importantly miss what he doesn't want to hit consistantly then maybe but I can tell you it takes 6 month to a year of practice for most people to get that good with a really good quality ($200 + ) whip even longer for one of lesser quality. It's not something you just pick up and play with on people on the first day. The person who I learned from required that I be able to 1. cut between 1" and 1/2 " off an uncooked spagetti noodle consistantly and then also required that I be able to hang a single sheet off toilet paper from a string and move the paper with just the air from the crack without tearing the paper 50 times in a row before I was considered ready to actually play with one on a live person. If the person is unwilling to show proof of competency then maybe you need to rethink who you are trusting yourself to. In Leather Archer

I haven't felt a bullwhip specifically. I believe the one I tried is called a signal whip (though I could be wrong). Anyway, it was wonderful, and one of the few times I quickly slid into headspace. I liked it a lot more than I like caning, actually, though I have little experience with either.

they use bullwhips on slaves in the south now i understand your wanting to please your master by doing what he wishes but i think after seeing many pictures it shows so the marks bullwhips make now maybe it is a diferent type but i would be worried it can if not use right leave you scarred i as i said seen the old picture of the marks that bull whips have left made think about it have him train on a side of beef so that he can really train on something that show what happens ocne it hit skin. you are not a side of beef that is the only thing that i could think of that can be tested on take care mons

well. this slave here havent been bullwhipped yet but this slave is sure that it hurts just as a whack in the butt with a 4 inch thick and more than a foot long wooden shaft! or being hit by a buckle of a belt. =)

To me the sting of a single tail is unbearable. I can't really process it well and it tends to pull me out of space (yet a few years ago I got my owner one for Christmas... go figure). I definitely prefer canes over single tails just for that reason. C~

I've never had the cane, I've had the bullwhip ONCE but it wasn't long. My Masters want to use BOTH on me. One Master is fond of caning and the other fond of the bullwhip. My one Master got my other Master a bullwhip for Christmas and he is saving it just for me and also a strap he ordered that is 5' long with holes in it. eeeks! hehe. Bullwhips hurt but have never experienced a cane. Master says it's a deep bruising pain that lasts awhile. [:D]

a bullwhip like a cane or a flogger can be as light as a kiss or take off skin. It depends on the force involved when using it and the intention when using it. The only thing i have to say about a bullwhip is he had better practice practice practice because a bullwhip in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to throw one can seriously take out an eye or worse. If you have ever been in a playspace and heard the crack of the bullwhip, it can send shivers down your spine. But the speed at which someone uses to "crack" the whip is never intended to be used on a submissives skin. Seriously it can take off skin or worse. Bullwhips can be wonderful...they can be stingy and feel like heaven. Its the sound that is intimidating. Now i have seen people who wanted to be whipped till the blood ran, but thats few and far between from what most would want. Its nothing to be afraid of though. It would be best if he truly was interested to find someone in the area who could show him how to throw a whip and the proper kind of whip to use. Sometimes local dungeons will have seminars etc. Go to them, they are wonderful. Communicate your fears to your Dom, and remember to keep the communication going. But until someone has alot of practice with a bullwhip i wouldn't recommend playing with them with that intrument of mass destruction.

It's not something you just pick up and play with on people on the first day. my Master bought one from Second Skin in New Orleans several years ago and let me tell you I would rather the "cane" than the "Bullwhip" anyday. play safe and have fun!!
