Keep in mind we have given these people a whole shit load of money for the specific purpose of fighting this group....should we ask for our money back.(fat chance we could get it though)

Hopefully it's a ruse and they'll invite them all into a big airplane hanger for a celebration dinner with goats nuts and all the delicacies then machine gun the lot of them.

Mike, i dont think the group in the Swat province is the same one thats causing the problems. Maybe it is an attempt to stop Taliban groups from linking with those that support Al Qaeda. Sort of like divide and conquer.

I just read a story a few hours ago about the Taliban executing a young couple for the great sin of trying to elope.  If the Pakistanis want to do business with these douchbags.....well, I hope they enjoy more Predator drones and commando assaults within their borders.  I'm getting a little sick of this idea that we're supposed to respect their backwards culture.  Seriously, murdering a young couple for wanting to get married.....how the fuck do you defend that?  As far as I'm concerned, we should air drop crates of whiskey and porn, open up whore houses, and give away slutty clothing to all the females.  I say corrupt their culture and be proud to do it.

Okay,I'm running off to dinner Polite so I don't have time to do my homework here, but one of the conditions agreed to is the imposition of that really regressive religous law...they love to enforce....dammit getting older sucks...Oh well by the time I get back, someone will have supplied the term.

Slaveboy, how can you expect a person to respect your culture, when not expecting theirs ? Part of the problem is the west thinking other people should be exactly like us.

Politesub, did you read the story I mentioned?  I didn't provide a link, because I'm kind of busy at the moment.  But it's been all over the major news sites.  Why should I respect a culture that takes a young, Romeo and Juliet-esque couple out and executes them for being in love?  I refuse to respect a culture like that, and I don't give a flying fuck if they respect my culture.  I don't want to negotiate with people like that, and I don't want to make peace with people like that.  I want people like that to be erased from existence.  I find it unbelievable that anyone would think we should reach out to scumbags that perpetrate and encourage these kinds of acts.

Absolutely. Not executing lovers for eloping is merely a little cultural peculiarity of ours. Everybody knows it's perfectly alright to kill people for any reason. Thanks for reminding us.

Sometimes, you say exactly what I want to say but better and more succinctly than I would.

Slaveboy, Here! Here!
Polite, I don't want those scumbags to respect my culture, I want them all dead!

I dont disagree with what you are saying. The fact is that the couple you mention were in Afghanistan, not Pakistan. We cant lump every Muslim under the same umbrella.

You all miss the point here. The governor of the province concerned said the killings were an insult to Islam. Im not condoning killing, just saying lets not tar everyone with the same brush.

Sharia,is it? well thanks slaveboy.
Polite as for respecting anothers culture...isn't this more a case of a bastardization of a culture.Speak to me about respecting Islam, one of the worlds great religions...and I can accept and even champion that.Speak to me of respecting the many contributions Islam's adherants have given to the world ....no problem. But is is it really necessary for me to respect every wacky offshoot of a particular culture or religion. We have some fundamentalist's in this country, nominally christians...who I don't care for at all.And in now way at all could ever respect.

But it's so much easier that way.

I think when we're talking about executing people who have harmed no one, one brush fits all.

I live by the Ten Commandments.  (You know, though shalt not kill?) Muslims should as well, since their religion is essentially an extension of JudeoChrisitanity.  Unfortunately, the madrassas teach a corrupted Islam that is bizarre and does not value the Mosaic Law.

To use the same brush to paint everybody who believes in Islam as rampaging murderers is wrong - as Steven says, the murderers that you mention preach a version of Islam that is absolutely not followed by the great majority of Muslims.

Let's not generalise, shall we? We all know where that leads.
