Still don't know what type of cockroach that is.  I live up north near the Canadian boarder so fortunately we don't have any nearly that large up here.

You only need to use like a teaspoon of borax sprinkled along the wall in each wet area.  The cat would have to eat a lot more than that for it to have any effect at all.  Even then it might give his indigestion which would be uncomfortable until he burped out most of the gas and then he will be fine.  cockroaches will eat cat food so you should keep it in a container with a tight lid and not leave it out unattended.

Don't over do it with the bleach.  The fumes aren't exactly good for you or the cat either.  All you need is a shot glass of bleach in a gallon of water to sanitize counters and food prep services.  Honestly, restaraunt health codes express it as something like 3 parts per million.  For small cleaning jobs I literaly use an eye dropper to dispense the bleach.

I think I love you. I'm printing this out for reference. I dunno what kind he is, aside from GIANT. Literally 3" without the antennae thingies. Ew.

Yes it is a gas stove, pretty unused (I'm used to electric and burn everything, shades of holly??).
I'm not opening a single cupboard until RR gets here but I am getting Borax (unless that will hurt BarneyCat??) and I need more bleach anyway. Bleach is going to be my new bestest friend.
I'm not pulling out appliances either without DomProtection but will suggest it to him. Somehow.. I think my plans for the weekend are very different from his heh.

Oh, does Myron eat cat food?

you are not supposed to squash him (her? We may be talking about Myrona here).

They have eggs and if you smash them the eggs go everywhere (pauses to administer smelling salts. Camille? Camille...you ok?) then they hatch and you have a bunch of little Myron/Myrona's running amok.

And all of them sworn to vengeance!

This isn't funny.

Honest? I'm about to throw up.

I have never heard of anyone getting a cockroach up their privates.  Sounds like an urban legend to me.

I've worked as a general handyman for more than 25 years.  The nastier parts of that job mean reaching into and crawling into the parts of a house that bug love best.

That and I watch way too much crap on TLC and Discovery channel.

Well I am glad that you 'know far too much'! Especially the dry unemotional fact giving, that was most helpful to me.

Yes its 2:30 and I'm still awake. Grrrrrr. It's hard to sleep with the lights on.

Thank you so very much ats, I mean that. If I find out just what Myron is I will let you know. I'm hoping hoping that he left for greener unbleached pastures, I don't like killing bugs but GIANT cockroaches simply do not belong in my living space.

Urban legend, huh? i wonder if ithis is something the MythBusters could answer for us. Though i wonder how they could engineer something like this...and who would volunteer for that. Yikes!

Seriously, this is getting me motivated to be much better and diligent at cleaning. Also, this is motivating me to puke, totally gross imagery...bugs wandering about in food, cabinets, living spaces...my "hooha". Ugh, i already had insomnia...

Good points, Atypical!  Now that the weather is warming up  lots of the spiders will leave.  There are no bugs in the house except the isopods in the basement, and these earwiggy looking things from time to time.  I have a grey parrot, so dust elimination is NOT happening in my room, but we do keep a very clean house.   They are welcome to eat all the isopods and dust mites  they like!

You are welcome.  I also avoid killing anything if I can.  Like you mentioned my first option is always to take a plastic container and toss them outside.  Personaly I've never seen a cockroach more than 1" long except in display cases.  Seeing something 3" in my home would have freaked me out too!  Hope you can get some sleep soon.

Camille, any time I move I pack everything LOOSELY in boxes ( air space with packing peanuts) then into the truck. Once everything is loaded (( leave space) set off several bug bombs (there are some all natural ones made with plant extracts that DO work) and close the gate. Leave it sit for an hour, then take off for the new place...the fumes gets into everything boxes et al and kills anything that might have traveled with you or even been in the truck already.

did you ever see the CSI Episode where they took huge cockroaches and put swavorski crystals on them and put little leashes on them and wore them as pets? And the lady took it into her xs's restaraunt, and he flipped out?

I think it's sexier to have them alive...but I also saw this website the other day..where it had instructions on how to turn it into a neclace with gel thingy..it was very interesting you could turn the roach into a pendant!

it almost sounds like you have a giant Madagascar hissing roach, escaped from someone's pet collection.  They actually don't fly, need fresh water, and live on fruits and vegetables. Probably not the best time to say this but I do own a colony (as pets) that's why I know this stuff. Some have escaped on occasion and are -always- found when they get hungry or thirsty and come out of the dark corners to look for fruits or water.  They also are not biters, I handle mine regularly to show tourists how they sound when they hiss.  I suspect by now that if it was a Madagascar it's dead with no source of fresh produce or water in your home.

One animal that works wonders in keeping bugs (including earwigs) under control is a pygmy hedgehog.  Let one loose in your house every night and there will be -no- bugs in record time, they live for invertebrate snacks. :)

On how clean is your house the recomend not having the bird in your room, if it's a small room cause the bad stuff in their poop and dust from their feathers  and stuff can make you sick.

Hedgehogs are freaking adorable. I may look into that now that I'm living in GIANT bug land. Heh thanks for the information even though you made my skin go crawly with talk of your 'pets'!

Poen? Will a bug bomb leave residue on my clothing and belongings? Jeez I'm starting to feel sorry for Myron and guilty for my murderous tendancies.
Naw.
I'm okay with being a killer.

Sorta. Jeez I am a wuss.

But there has been no sign of him so I think I'm safe. We did have a lot of rain last weekend and maybe he just needed a roof? Oh my god I'm empathizing with Myron. I need help...

They are the only current inverts...  more people are squeamish about my reptile collection than my roaches usually.
Also for some reason the hairless rats get noticed a lot. ;)

camille,

I lived in an apartment where the mice and rats got so bad that an entire banana disappeared off the counter top.  No joke.  And the damned varmits were stealing my Dove chocolates and leaving the wrappers under the sink.

And your Sir may find this movie really funny in light of the giant roach spotting -

The Naked Lunch

David Cronenberg and William S. Burroughs invite you to lunch.

"Exterminator Bill Lee finds himself following his wife into an addiction to the bug powder he uses. After accidentally killing her, he descends into a hallucinatory existence in which he imagines himself a secret agent answering to a series of bizarre creatures. He channels his energies into writing "reports" on his delusional mission, while trying to break his addiction. The story loosely reflects events in the life of author Burroughs as he wrote the novel." Written by scgary66

It's not a Madagascar hissing roach.  Anyone who has ever lived in central/southeast Texas or southwest Louisiana (me, in both!) has seen these little devils.  Locals call them "tree roaches" because they like to live in trees.  They sometimes get "lost" and come inside.  The babies are 2 inches long and the adults are 3 inches long.

Years ago, shortly after I moved from California to Louisiana, I got up in the middle of the night to pee.  I didn't turn on the bathroom light, just sat down.  From behind the shower curtain (which was closed), I hear something rustle.  I got up, turned on the light, and threw back the curtain with the toilet brush, ready to attack whatever critter was hiding there.  Damn kamikaze tree roach flew straight at me, as I screamed bloody murder (who the fark knew those things would attack?!?!) and I beat the living daylights out of him with the toilet brush.

Sorry Camille, your days are numbered.  Myron will be flying into your hair before you know it.

Cali
