For me slut is a compliment, there is no humiliation play in my name at all. I however appreciate that you might find it, read it that way and choose to use my original name [:D] I am sorry if it offends you.

So if you stopped in to get coffee and the guy working there said "Here slut, lap it up" you would feel that to be appropriate? You're Tongue's slut, not anyone else's. You presumably aren't a slut to any guy in a trench coat who makes a rude suggestion while riding the tube in the morning.

smiles, in the spirit of the post, I assume the name referrals are in the context of a grouping of BDSM people--I'm not sure we'd be hearing "Pizza ready for MISSTURBATION" in a public vanilla setting.

I do adore you, this just made Me smile this morning, too much Sumatra sunrise coffee...[8D]

HalloweenWhite -> RE: Changing Names (4/21/2009 8:25:10 AM)

I for 1 am intrigued by choosing a new name for a slave/submissive, I have to say I like the idea because for Me it gives an extra dimension to being in control.

Having said that, if it was a limit, or didn't come up as an option/desire of the submissive/slave in conversation, I wouldn't be put off.

LadyPact -> RE: Changing Names (4/21/2009 8:32:29 AM)

Good Morning bear.  Yes, part of that post sounds vaguely familiar.  <wink>

As I've said in other places, I actually hear Lady Pact, or some version of it, more often than I do My birth name.  For those who don't like the title deal, I don't have an issue with "LP" or some other variation.  Some folks will call Me either Miss or Mistress (insert real name here) and I'm fine with that, too.

Many times, I'll actually stick with a person's screen name, even after knowing their real name, or some combination of both.  It's easier for an old gal like Me to remember.

Do you think it could be seen as a lack of respect to the person's wishes, or the new dynamic, by not doing so?

Does it matter if you knew the person before the name change?

All thoughts, ideas, comments, and personal views are appreciated.

Personaly I'm prone to using affectionisms anyhow. From 'Hi sweetie' when informaly addressing a sub fem friend to 'Tal girl' when taking a more formal discussion such as answering a question posed by a Gorean identified slave.

Regardless of wether I knew them before or not, where I address thenm by name I use the current one, assuming they have valid reason for doing so such as wanting to break from unpleasent past memorys if single or that they are under a Masters Orders and that is the name He wishes the girl to use.

Hello HalloweenWhite.

The comment you made is one of the very reasons that some have taken up the practice.

Dear RavenMuse,

I believe we see the situation from a similar viewpoint.

I didn't think it would take you long to see that you are one of the "D" types which I was referring to! I believe a large part ids we have gotten so used to addressing each other by our screen names that when we continue to do so in real life. This was quite apparent at Greedy's wedding and even though we all had name tags, most of us were still calling each other by our cm names! Personally, many of my friends do call me bear as that is a nickname for me so being addressed as "Bear" in public posses no problems.

And hello to You, Lady pact :)

I may have stated the obvious in My post. What I meant to say was that I really like the idea of changing a slave's/submissive's name because of the extra dimension of  covtrolit gives (I.M.O) , but that if it didn't come up then I wouldn't push it, because I wouldn't want to do something that may be potentially un-healthy to the s types emotional state.

wisdomofgiving -> RE: Changing Names (4/21/2009 8:58:46 AM)

I changed my name to the actual name I use for chatrooms. I don't mind though if people call me oceanwynds or wisdomofgiving. I still just here lurking in the message boards and learning:)

Old my ass, LP.... You're more beautiful and have your head together than most people. Period. Age has nothing to do with it. *snickers and grins*

If you're old, what does that make me? Ancient? [:D]

LadyPact -> RE: Changing Names (4/21/2009 9:00:33 AM)

HW, My comment wasn't meant to say that you were stating the obvious.  There are a few reasons why people take up with the idea.  That's one of them.  RavenMuse added a couple more.  Some do it because they are Gorean, or Leather, or have a poly situation where everyone takes on some version of the name of the household.  Some people just like it because they don't prefer to use their real name in the public scene.  I've even met a few that have done it because they just plain don't like their birth name.

Gee, we wouldn't know ANYTHING about that, would we, Bear? [sm=lol.gif]

Sorry, I wasn't having a dig. I re-read My post and thought it sounded too obvious, so thought I'd try to make more sense;I think I have a habit of not reading a thread properly then posting a reply and almost completely missing the point of the post! lol.

Have I told you today how sweet you are?

Actually, the one who has a real trouble remembering multiple names is MP.  Anytime we go anywhere that has quite a few people that we, or at least I, have met first through this site or another, he has a terrible time keeping up.  Between real names, screen names, chat names, and any others, he'll spend half of the time asking Me, "Who is that again?"  LOL.

If 'real name' means what people know you as in real life then My given name isn't My 'real name', only My father and the tax man use that, everyone else knows Me as Raven and has done for over 20 years.

But by hoping that others use the old name, isn't that bending what Sir wants? Should it not be" thank you, however, i have a new owner and He prefers you refer to me as xxx"?

i see youre point, but not atall.

the reason was entirely pragmatic.  He simply wished for His name to be attached to us.  i like to think its because He is proud of owning us. [:)] i spose i could have requested that i be called intongueslally - but i doubt people would have felt confident to make that correlation anyway.  if they had i wonder if it would have carried the same question, possibly not.

i started using missts name on the threads, largely because our names are buggers to type out, but also because it seemed silly to me, since alot of people knew who we were anyway and it was a formality that really wasnt required.  plus it seemed kindof wrong in that we were posting as 'new' people, when infact we werent atall and that felt dishonest.

people have only really started calling us misst and lally since we ourselves began to refer to each other that way, so in a way it was made an open invititation for people to choose.

The fact that you have 'aka lally' in your sig means if I where to address you by name thats what I'd use (As you say, easier to type) but having it in your sig covers any of the reasons I'd have assumed you had reason to use the new name.... if it wasn't there I'd either not refer to you by name or c&p it *g*

[:D] lol, good point -

but oddly enough alot of people, infact all of the people didnt make the leap to assume - im supposing for the reasons LadyPact has brought up.  so i kinda nudged a bit, cos it really felt too formal for me and im not a formal kinda gal [:)]

edited to add:  and Sir really doesnt mind - so long as we keep our ownership names out there.

Hello InTonguesslave.  I want to thank you for joining the thread.  I hope you didn't mind being the basis of the question.  It was just something I happened to notice and thought it might make for interesting discussion.

Had the name InTongueslally been chosen, the question might not have come to My mind.  I'd see lally as an abbreviation of the same name and it probably would not have provoked the same kind of curiosity.  The same holds true in clip's case.  The name he has here is actually LPslittleclip, but it's the shorter version that's used.  It's what I use.  The only time the long version comes out is when he's introducing himself in meatlife to people he hasn't met before or if I'm not with him.

I certainly understand the reasoning between the members of your situation to call each other by the past screen names that you had.  Of course, I've seen sis pop up when one of you is referring to the other as well (which I happen to like personally) and it's highly unlikely that would be appropriate for Me to use.

Thank you contribution here.  I hope the thread did not offend you in any way.

Regards In Kink,

Lady Pact

I would handle such a situation like anything else in life. I would do what the person wanted me to do. I would ask him/her what he/she preferred and then do it. That's so much clearer and easier than ruminating over what socially-accepted protocol to use.

For instance: "Hi *****." I noticed you have changed your nick here. I'm so used to you being called "xxxxx." Which would you prefer I call you?"

So easy [;)]

luci

I'd handle it in the same way.

The *master* in question isn't the person I'm  talking to, or have a relationship with and carries no weight whatsoever. I don't care what *some master, somewhere* wants.

Q) What do you prefer to be called?... A) I'd like to be called 'confusedbuthappy* ..

MY response  *Ok...... How are you confusedbuthappy?*.

That's it. Easy peasy. No need for complications.
