Such anger [sm=rofl.gif] ! You're right, let me correct myself: "It's my experience that the most vociferous protestors against political correctness tend to be white men with an inferiority complex."

Kittin, there's no "anger" in my words just my observations.
A lot of this type of crap does seem to crop up around the college/uni community.

gman992 -> RE: Political Correctness ? (4/23/2009 12:10:01 PM)

Political Correctness is the attempt to subvert language and thoughts to fit a political agenda instead of being truthful and bold. It is an attempt to force people through laws and regulations to fit an ideology instead of allow people their 1st Amendment rights to be honest not only to themselves but to others. It is an attempt to cloak language by subverting language...usually by the losers in society to present a "fuzzy" image. For instance, "terrorist" becomes "political prisoner," "communist" becomes "land reformer," "liberal" becomes "progressive," etc. It's just basically forcing other people not to be themselves. Read 1984 by Orwell. I know...I know...it's a pretty boring book, so watch the movie.

Yes, and "torture" becomes "enhanced interrogation".

Kittin, you seem like a capable person, why would you need others to tell you how to think?

Where do you get your language from, pop? Lou Dobbs?

Between you and slavemike it's awful tough to get a straight answer to a question.

...and the oft-overlooked element that the party, both inner and outer, only made up a fraction of the population. Control the minds of a few, and you have it all.

Basically, this is an incredible book that ought to be required reading for anyone in the slightest bit interested in politics. It's also well written and has possibly one of the best opening lines to a book ever.....

"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking Thirteen. ..."

This political correctness that is messing up our world, most recently seen at the UN racism conference, over what defines racism, where did  the notion of political correctness all come from ?

Although I have seen more than enough excesses performed in the name of political correctness, the idea of looking at what is going on in the world and deciding that it's being messed up due to political correctness is bizarre to me.

It's not even in the top hundred.

Manawyd, agreed, the only affect it has really is to annoy and alienate people from the protagonist.

The Origins of Political Correctness

K.

From your link:

Indeed, all ideologies are totalitarian because the essence of an ideology (I would note that conservatism correctly understood is not an ideology)

Kirata,

Yes, Conservatism has been elevated to a higher plane, and those who disagree simply do not understand; which is ironic considering that totalitarian principles are underpinned by the idea that: "you do not understand".

Ultimately, political correctness is an idea, just as Conservatism is an idea. Your man in the link is using dubious methods of debate such as appealing to people's fear of totalitarianism. Not impressive.

I am Fearless Leader ... Love Me.

"War is Peace," "Freedom is Slavery," "Ignorance is Strength"

Crush, "political correctness" does seem like a malady that was *custom made* for anal-retentives.

Of course a righty wingy whacky org. like Accuracy in Academia is going to spin PC as a liberal thing.

What better way to escape the natural "1984 " association that conservatism, and the 100 x worse "neo-conservatism",has.

Owner, that could be a generalization. Anal-Retentiveness knows no political boundries.
