Since you have spent so much time visiting Dubai and Afganistan I can see why you never watch major league baseball.

Predictions for the near future, well, I think the financial institutions are going to do it again, find some way to screw up and there receive more hand outs. They have been given a soft landing from tax payers funds in order to get back on track, could they be thinking they would get it again, me thinks so. So an idea might be for customers to sneak their funds out, spread it thinly amongst other institutions, or keep it at home, so they don't lose come the next crash. The financial institutions have shown themselves not to be trusted.

Iraq and Afghanistan are coming to a close due to increased public concern which is not good for politics, but hey, war is profitable, just look at all those companies that make this that and the other killing implement and support implement. A war is business, business stimulates the economy, life is cheap and people can be conned with ideas about patriotism to go and fight a failed political argument on foreign shores. I predict another war, with whom, well, take your pick, where has threatening words been directed  in the world, but perhaps more cynically, who has oil and packs less political clout in the world.

Oh yes, and we the electorate will continue to be kept in the dark about the machinations of power as we always have been.

Isn't the world ending in 2012?

Barely, yeah, they found a "clock" of sorts from some indians in S. or Cent. America that "stops" in 2012 so that's all it takes for some people.
I have a clock that "stopped" in 1998 but I'm not an indian so therefore, not "mysterious" enough to be of any interest to the "doomsday people!"
"Irish guy from Boston's clock stops in 1998."
"Nah! That's pretty boring!"  "He probably got drunk and dropped it."  How could we make a documentary about that?"  "Yeah, plus the guy's *still alive* so there's no "mystery" to be held up between commercials." Hey! Any Indians with stopped clocks?" "Yeah! Dead indians, they can't talk so we can make stuff up about how "advanced" and "mysterious" they were!" "Introduce a *possable* link between them and flying saucers and we'll pull in the tin foil hat crowd too!"
I think they call people who do the above stuff, "producers."
Well, they missed their chance with me!
Oh, and some nonsense about us "lining up" with the center of the solar system in 2012 too so The History Channel and A&E will have plenty of material for the next 3 1/2 years.
I imagine all the "2000" people are finally finishing up their canned food that they stockpiled about now. "Canned cured pork", "Powdered Eggs." yummy!
"C'mere Fido, I have a treat for you!"

12% unemployment. The return of hyperinflation because we are just printing money with nothing behind it. More taxes on gasoline because of cap and trade. Massive terrorist attacks on the US and her allies because Obama gave away details to the enemy on how we operate. In a sense, it's a return to Jimmy Carter and the 1970s. Oh my God! Does that mean I should get my bell-bottoms out?

It depends. If you're wearing tapered leg 'carpenter' jeans from Sears, yes.
