My doctor and I discuss kinks all the time. My doctor thinks Ray Davies is a wonderful singer and claims that Apeman is one of his all time favourite hits.

I told my docs I like rough sex. They shrug and move on to do their job without another care in the world. Most don't even ask though.

If I were in that situation, I would probably go with rough sex and grin and leave it at that. No sense in lying to the doctor, but you don't have to give or volunteer too much information either.

haha, some of your answers made me smile, but all contained great advice.

I am hoping he won't even say anything, but I think I am prepared if he does.  One good thing about docs nowadays is they are so dang busy they don't have much time to really pay attention to anything but what they are looking for.

He may even just stick a stethoscope down my shirt and send me for more tests.

Thank you all for the great advice, I think I worry too much about things.  It's just that after all of these years, this is the first time I have ever run into this issue.  I can say it probably won't ever happen again if I can help it.

I'd tell the doc the truth. My sub recently went to the doctor and forgot about the bite marks all over his ass. When the doctor saw them he said whats that bruising? My sub replied bite marks from my girlfriend...the doc didn't blink an eye and went on about his business.

As a medical professional who has worked in hospitals for over thirty years I can say, with no hesitation, that nothing, and I mean nothing surprises doctors when it comes to patients and their sexual activities.  Relax, be honest and rest assured no judgement will be passed.  The only time a doc might say something is if he or she believes what you are doing may cause health problems.

Definitely be honest. Like others have said, medical professionals can smell bullshit a mile away. If you're lying, we assume something is going on. *Plus* if your doctor should know about activities that may put you at increased risk based on your medical issues. Acute and chronic diseases have nuances that we as patients may not realize. None of my doctors have ever had a negative reaction. In fact, they barely reacted at all. One kinda raised one eyebrow, looked back at the chart and said "Well, that sounds fun." You never know who's a closet kinkster.

Well, we screwed up.  I have an appt with a specialist tomorrow (my first time with him).  M and I got carried away the other day and totally forgot about this.  I now have two good sized bruises, one on each breast.  Turns out this is a cardiologist, so there is no way I can keep them from his view.  We did this over this past weekend, and I was hoping they would fade by this Friday..but they haven't.

We are normally very careful when I know I have anything like this coming up, it was a slip up on both our parts.  I am honestly not sure what to tell the Dr if he asks.  I don't want to get into my relationship details with him, but I don't want him to think I am abused either.

Has anyone got any advice on how I can handle this?

Before the clothes come off i just tell my health care professional that i like kinky sex and it's nothing to worry about.  They usually have no problem with that.  i am a nurse, and when someone would tell me that, i don't bat an eye, i just move on with my work unless they give me some other reason to suspect.

Thanks for all the tips here.  One of my nipples ripped (don't ask) and I will have to explain THAT to my GYN this Tuesday.  Yes, it's difficult to rip a nipple and yes it takes FOREVER to heal!  I did that almost a month ago!

I use to play rugby so that was always a source of bruises and an easy cover. I went in one day for something other then a minor injury and had some new bruises.. We were talking rugby and the doctor poked one bruise and asked "rugby?" and so laughing i said, right after, "ouch" " ...no that one was from kinky sex play.. " He laughed and said he'd known all along but the nurses hadn't caught on yet..

Doctors usually know and as said above, they know BS and what to look for in signs of abuse.. not just physical bruises for abuse but behavior and cover up...

Unless you are bruised or injured to a dangerous point some kinky play is not going them too worked up, IF you present in a good frame of mind and otherwise healthy.

My previous boy had to have a disc operated on and when he went to his appointment (not for surgery) but just a pre-op appt. had on a HEAVY slave collar and the doctor asked him,"you ahhh, you're like a slave?".... he said, "yes"... and it was never talked about again.

I agree with most of the postings... tell him the truth, they've heard it all.

I just wanted to add that Arnica Gel works really well to heal bruises fast!!!  Arnica is a type of herb.  Just apply the cream on top of your bruise several times a day.  It's a non-sticky sports gel and athletes also use it to soothe sore muscles.  I found my bottle at GNC.  It's inexpensive and very effective!

Very good advice and I'll remember this if and when I ever need to use it myself. I think I'd have been tempted to lie but it makes perfect sense that the Dr. needs to know the truth for the various reasons listed in kitastrophe's post.

marie, I dont know about your health care provider, but at Kaiser, appointments specially for specialists fill up months in advance, and it's not practical to cancel your appointment over bruises, since you'll  likely be 2 or 3 months in getting another one.

I guess if it's that hard to secure an appointment, I would be mindful of the date, and make sure not to get bruises or marks on my body before going.  I'm not saying that's how everyone should feel.  But for me, it's the simplest and easiest option.

Yes, that is one option, but I find that honesty with my healthcare professionals is effective, they never make a big deal of my bruises when I have them. It is better for me that way so that we can continue to play as hard as we want regardless of MD appointments.

I worked in a large trauma center for many years; medical professionals can smell BS from 100 feet even when upwind.  Just tell him the truth; trust me he has seen and heard far more interesting stories that what is going to come out of your mouth.

*laughs* Yeah, I generally figure that with all I've read about in various newspapers, it's pretty much a given that no matter what I'm doing, those like medical professionals who are in a position to "see it all", have seen things a LOT wierder and more amusing than anything I'm going to come up with.

Another way to look at it? Statistically we think that conservatively something like 1:10 participate in some form of BDSM. OK, now even if you say only 1:100 of those do anything even remotely serious or kinky, that still means 1:1000 people are doing seriously kinky things. Now, if you're a doctor and you've spent.... say.... that last 10 years seeing patients and talking to other doctors who've seen patients.... well... you've seen a lot of seriously kinky people *laughs*.
