Have you ever been assigned a nickname? Has it stuck? What was your nickname, and how did you get your nickname?

DemonKia -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 12:43:53 AM)

Some friends started referring to me as the 'demonatrix' . . . . .

I can't stand the gendered language thing, but I liked the whole 'demon' thing, & the rest is, well, my ongoing fabulous self . . . .. lol

stella41b -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 12:54:13 AM)

I've picked up the nickname 'the ghost' from my way of working in theatre - mainly by hovering, keeping silent most of the time and turning up unexpectedly at different locations. This is the only nickname which has stuck with me.

BKSir -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 1:01:17 AM)

BiggKatt, or BK.  Started out as BigCat because of my long hair, speed and ability when playing sports (many many moons ago), but it just kind of grew and morphed and stuck with me ever since.  Hell, half the time I still answer to BK or Katt if someone says it. >.<

BadJezebel -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 1:29:30 AM)

My father first called me Jezebel when I wore a bright red lipstick in highschool.  My friend that was over started calling me that at school the next day and it caught on.  Years later, I was teaching dance and that combined with  my femme fatale image of my early youth had people calling me Jezebel (because they confused it with Oscar Wilde's image of Salome).

The funny thing is that Jezebel was a Phonecian princess that lead the people in the Kingdom of Israel astray (and ethnically I'm connected to the tribes of Israel rather than to the Phoenicians).  She isn't looked upon favorably.  What I learned in the last few years is that Jezebel might be an epithet (with it's own definition in Hebrew). . . and a very unflattering one at that.

I feel that I've outgrown it long ago but I used it on this site because I still answer to it.

in high school and middle school i was known as "book girl" cause i always had one book i was reading and an extra or two in my bag. I was always reading in the hallways, during lunch, on the bus ect. reading and walking became a habit with me. even my teachers called me book girl cause i'd always read and had my own copy of the assigned reading material and usually knew it better than the teachers did.

RCdc -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 1:51:27 AM)

I was called dark because of my hair colour.  People used to say, 'the dark one' particularly when directing them to me as my best friend (who I also worked with) had the same name as me and she was a different hair colour.  When she passed away, people still called me dark.
My dad called me pussycat.  Which is funny as my daughters nickname is kitten or holycat.

the.dark.

My name is Michele, My mother went through several miscarriages when I came along, then I was supposed to be twins, but My twin died--so I was Michele to Mom and Mike to Dad and I was Mike to school, family and work for many years.

Then My friends named Me--Chele, that came and went---20 years ago, an employer named Me, Mich--it stuck outside family, I was Mike to Mom and Mich to everyone else--Mom is gone--I'd love to hear her call Me Mike again--

but to the world, I am Mich.

Andi..but only to family and friends that have known me more than 30 yrs

dreamofthemoon -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:09:27 AM)

The nickname i chose in college is Cricket.  Everyone else in the group i was becoming friends with had nicknames, and i didn't, so i eventually chose that one to be mine.  It fits me, too, which is nice.  i was trying to get over being shy, though i did eventually "chirp in" and say something, which surprised them all coming from me, lol. [:D]

And at home, dad usually calls me by shortened versions of my real name, which aren't really nick names, but i'll answer to them all the same.

AngelGeena -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:20:19 AM)

my dad always called me abby....something to do with the popularity of dear abby way back when

GreedyTop -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:23:24 AM)

for a while I was called Mouse, because I was so quiet and would fade into the background of any gathering..

(seriously..for those that know me....it's true....)

dreamofthemoon -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:25:58 AM)

GreedyTop -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:27:03 AM)

dreamofthemoon -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:35:42 AM)

i know the "fading" feeling, too, lol.  *tacklesmooches back*  Though it's more like i'm just invisible for me. [:(]

Rainfire -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:43:06 AM)

In Australia, where they love their opposites, I was named "Blue" for my hair colour. My dad called me "Tiger", "Tomato" or "Zoom" and still does to this day. "Rainfire" came about for personal reasons back in the 80's and it's stuck. And then there's ever popular "Red Sonja" since my name really is Sonja and I have red  hair. [:'(]

KMsAngel -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 7:52:11 AM)

it was explained to me, rain, that redheads are named blues because a 'blue' is a fight. and most fights were started by red-headed people who may or may not have been primarily irish.

the whole pub fight thing.

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 8:07:44 AM)

Mama calls me Elroy (yes, from the Jetsons) because I was always getting into something as a kid.  Daddy calls me Booboo, and Buddy.  Friends call me Decoy, SnakPak, Twitchy, Tanjible, Love Monkey, and White Girl (dont ask).  The Man calls me Babydoll, and Love Monkey, or "wtfisyourdealyourebeingapainintheasswaittilligetmyhandsonyougirl!"

GreedyTop -> RE: Nicknames (4/24/2009 8:33:09 AM)

*snort*

When my mom was pregnant, my parents referred to me as Eggbert
