pahunkboy -> Could the GOVT "organize" catastrophy? (4/24/2009 7:48:58 AM)

In light of how inept the govt is- and how (if) you ever tried to organize an event;  how so many things go wrong-

Could the government organize ANYTHING in regards to the economic collapse?

Martial law?

Gun confiscation?

On and Off ramp interstate "check points"?

Having police and military families go to a "safe area"- thus - the law has a reason to fire upon Americans. (their family harmed if they dont)

"Controlled"  germ such as bird flu?

Orderly transition from the US dollar to another form of currency?

Playing one group on Americans against another group of Americans to take attention off of the money changers?

Make examples out of people to keep others in check?

Empty US prisons to set the country off into chaos?

And yet- consider how proficient the government is at ANYTHING!?

The cost over runs- the lawyers. The committees, and red tape.  Why you cant fart with out the correct protocol being followed.

Well...sort of...try the Reightstag Fire during WW2. No one knows today who started it, but a Communist Jew was convicted, and the subsequent new laws which followed are mindful of our new 'Patriot Act laws. Goggle it, you will be amazed. After reading through the Reightstag incident...makes one wonder about the recent WTC incident.

Actually, from my point of view, the government IS a catastrophe in its current incarnation.

Could they, a la "Wag the Dog" or  some at http://www.libsci.sc.edu/bob/class/clis734/webguides/conspire.html

However, I just don't think the elected representatives are smart enough (but greedy instead) to be part of a conspiracy.

The bureaucrats, now maybe........

It certainly does.

All of this is underpinned by the adherence to a value system.

The Nazis were absolutely certain they were right, so were prepared to go to any lengths to meet their ends.

Now, the British government have employed numerous illegal tactics to preserve their view of that which they believe Britain should be. The question is, how far would they, and others like them, go?

Our government has very effectively "organized" one of the highest per capita imprisonment rates in the world. That requires a nearly-incomprehensible infrastructure of technology, government agents, etc.

Same thing with the system for monitoring the financial affairs of citizens and assessing and collecting taxes.  Premiere in the world!

In fact, they have very effectively organized to transfer billions of dollars into the hands of the very people/entities who propped them up as political candidates.

They're only inept if you judge their actions by their stated goals.

Really NG,it actually made you wonder about 9/11?
Damm there I thought the planes flying into the buildings were self explanatory....

TheHeretic -> RE: Could the GOVT "organize" catastrophy? (4/25/2009 10:22:45 AM)

We have organized an invasion of Europe, and putting a man on the moon.  Keeping it secret is an entirely different ballgame.

slvemike4u -> RE: Could the GOVT "organize" catastrophy? (4/25/2009 10:58:07 AM)

Oh yeah Rich, what about Dallas in 63,they have managed to keep the lid on that one heh?   [8|]

MarsBonfire -> RE: Could the GOVT "organize" catastrophy? (4/25/2009 12:01:50 PM)

I was just mentioning something similar to some friends at work. The Bush administration did it's level best to keep things like torture, warantless wiretapping and Cheaney's death squad secret...

So why do people still think they are somehow keeping alien bodies in the basement freezer at Wright Patterson... or their crunched ride out at Groom Lake?

But... the Avian Flu thing? Hell yes! If there's one thing we DO know about our government... they are GREAT at supporting secret weapons programs... (seems to me Colorado and Arkansas are STILL in the midst of destroying all the poison gasses and bio weapons we had stockpiled from the Korean era.

I think one of the most chilling things about Stephen King's "The Stand": I could see something like "Captain Trips" getting loose all too easily.

You guys ought to read The Shock Doctrine.

Not really, because quite frankly I've no interest in what happens in the United States.

I was making the point that the government, well more the establishment of which the government is one component, are a serious lot who will do what it takes; whether or not they'd go as far as allowing the deaths of a few thousand US citizens is open to debate. Let's face it, they wouldn't be the first establishment who thought that the deaths of some of their people justified the ends; on the contrary, they'd be in good company.

A reminder the US didn't 'organise' the invasion, the Brits and other Allies did.
But you got the moon landing with the Kraut scientists, though.

Raechard -> RE: Could the GOVT "organize" catastrophy? (4/25/2009 12:55:17 PM)

Yep the space race was always a front for the ICBM programme, just a happy coincidence or a way to appease the public by painting over the war reality with the glorious dream of exploration of the heavens.

awmslave -> RE: Could the GOVT "organize" catastrophy? (4/25/2009 2:47:25 PM)

Sure, US government can organize things but only in certain areas. It can organize economic collapse (in principle) as it controls money supply. In reality US government can not cross the wishes of bankers and as of now it does not organize collapse but it can cause it by inappropriate actions and inactivity (in some areas) in unorganized way. I do not believe in conspiracy theories; US government officials and members of the the Congress do not have such unity. Everyone runs his/her own little racket to stay in place.

That would have been some beach party without the industrial might of the United States of America....would the Brits have swum the channel ,lacking all those American transports and landing craft?

Yes, and not like anything of use came out of that. The technological advances coming about as a result of Kennedy's commitment to reach the moon in the 60's allows you to post this uninformed claptrap.

Prove it.
In all probability you hold the proof in your hands. The challenges of sending a man into orbit...followed by the challenges of landing him on the moon, and bringing him back demanded new solutions .....the miniturization of the computer was just one of many such solutions that we all benefit from today.
If you feel the need for more detailed and source related "proof"....fire up your little laptop....and do the research.
