mitsu -> canes! (2/1/2006 5:27:16 PM)

Just wondering...what are E/everyone's preferences regarding types of canes - in terms of thickness, material, flexibility, length, etc.? I just discovered rawhide canes, and...I think I'm in love.

Slipstreme -> RE: canes! (2/1/2006 5:31:40 PM)

I haven't had experience with canes as of yet, except that they look lovely.

Plan to? Yes.

Although I find myself wanting to wield sticklike objects more than recieve them.

PPPPPPUUUUUUUURRRRRRSSSSSS

*grins* i love canes, they are my favorite toy. fiberglass and metal are wonderful, purrs acrylic and lexan are so nice and intense. purrs now wood and rattan are not so high on my list but i would take them any day over a flogger or paddle.

but then i have been told that i am just weird *grins* heads off with thoughts of canes dancing in my head.

*smiles* I am still in love with your purrs.....lol. As for myself I have only had one encounter with a cane, can't wait for more.

Yummmmmmmmmmmy

TheMistressMandy -> RE: canes! (2/1/2006 10:36:44 PM)

i enjoy a 1/4" thickness, in rattan, between a 24-30" length, rubber dipped handle and tip. i rarely go for any other material than the "original".[:)]

IronBear -> RE: canes! (2/1/2006 10:47:18 PM)

I'm planning to extend my knowledge into the use of canes. I have a penchant for Ratan (from my SCA days) but am also thinging of a bundle of canes bound together about the handle and tip too. Also I want to experiment with the cut down carbon fiber fishin rod blanks as well as the carbon figer arrow blanks from my archery supplier. I just have to learn the techniques of platting a leather cover for them and even perhaps bronze casting handles.

Marquisd -> RE: canes! (2/2/2006 12:34:16 AM)

that's a nice post indeed [:D]

Personally I prefer wood. I like the feel and the flexibility. I have thin between 2 feet and 4 feet long (less control but nice between the legs if you can manage it)

1/4 inch round makes for nice rythmic caning to the music.

square 3/8 inch for a more thuddy impact play

1 inch "equalizer" more for the mindfuck than impact (it brakes bones if not handled carefull - little flex)

I have some rattan for a different feel (1/4-3/8 inch) as well as single and twin acryllic.

depends on your rythem, method, your goal, what's been negotiated, deepness of the bruises and also what kind of wood it is (cedar vs oak i.e.)

I know a great guy who makes this locally and he knows all about wood -he also made all my paddles as well.

cheers and good luck finding what works for you

Marquisd

Mmmmmmmmmmm.....one of my very favorite toys. There is not a cane that i can think of that i do not like. I do have to say, a few years ago i was introduced to the rawhide cane.......and OUCH! YUM! *chucklez*

If you go to a local leather shop...alot of them carry rawhide in different sized sheets....cut out the length you want......soak it in water until you can twist it...twist until very tight or loose turns.....put it between vices and let it dry. It will take days for this process............but ohhhh so worth it.

floorkitten -> RE: canes! (2/2/2006 4:17:34 AM)

Master enjoys canes - thus i enjoy canes...lol. Altho his collection is quite broad - neither of us have ever heard of "rawhide" canes -

and the interest is peeked...

any links to share in regard to these rawhide canes?

I don't know of any links, but they are very easy to make, as smilezz has already described.

Once they are finished, the rawhide canes are very "whippy" and have a rough texture that leaves some outstanding marks. You can make them thinner or thicker depending on how tightly you wind them. Just pick up a small sheet of rawhide at a leather supply store and experiment. It's fairly inexpensive and you can make several canes from one sheet.

Have fun,

smilezz,

After you have twisted the rawhide and allowed it to dry, do you use it as it is or encase it in platted rawhide thong as I do with a stockwhip?

yourMissTress -> RE: canes! (2/2/2006 8:03:19 AM)

OH oh oh, I love them all....

I especially love to use a pair of them roughly 24" long, to music....rock star fantasies abound.

I have not ever tried encasing it...sounds like an experiment approaching *grinz*

The shere raw material leaves the most delicious welts and bruises...AND! can draw blood. Mmmm.

The thing about figerglass is that it lands with such a thud and has no whip or bounce to it. It has all the subtety of a paddle, and I feel that if anyone swung a fiberglass cane hard enough, they would break something. To speak more directly, it gives me "tail bone" anxiety. I can deal with pain, but the worry over being damaged frightens me with a fiberglass cane. Naturally this anxiety seeps out, and then my Mistress isn't prone to let go and swing, and then that makes me feel bad as well. Maybe I just need more practise and training.

practice, training? mmmmmmmmmm I suggest you ask yourself this question!

Which is more powerful in your mind... your trust and judgement on the skill and ability of your Mistress to use the fiberglass cane... or your fear and anxiety of being harmed by the said cane?

RiotGirl -> RE: canes! (2/3/2006 3:37:46 PM)

canes.. uh hmmm. Hate em, terrified of em and they hurt like god only knows in tender areas. And they make me jump. Had one that was like created from another toy and now have one that is rattan. We've also this short stubby looking glass thing that has a heavy thump to it.

That being said, usually after about the 40th or so stroke i can get into it and enjoy it.

Tho i did suprisingly find that if there isnt much arm put into it.. its not all that bad those first 40 strokes.
