Ah what the hell, here's my two cents. I'm not sure about your local community, but the one in Denver has an organization that raises money for people in BDSM in they need it. They do this, in part but selling donations at vendor fairs. See if your local community has such an organization and donate the collar to them to sell. That way you're helping your local community and getting rid of your "baggage" at the same time.

There is no "proper protocol," no matter what people might tell you. When she told you she didn't want it anymore, you were given the right to do whatever you wanted to do with it.

Michael and SirKenin ...

I would like to sincerely apologize for my earlier comments about what you should do with your old collar. I spoke irrationally, in error, and like a jerk.

i would like to know what i should do with my old collar since my former Mistress does not wish me to return it to Her?

If it was me, I'd keep it for now. You can always toss it...but you can't get it back if you decide it means something to you.

Hell, I still have my wedding ring somewhere. Despite how that turned out, I still have a lot of good memories.

hmm.....sounds like me. *Giggles happily jingling the end of my choke chain.*

Michael, you have to do to the collar that which you one day see fit. As it is you seem indecisive. Try taking a look at it later on, examine how you feel about it. If it causes distress, remove it from you. If it is just one of those things, do what you want to it. If you have fond memories associated with it, keep it.

Unless you've no space for it, as my parents always said: More shit to pick up (there is no wonder why I'm so territorial over my stuff. They used to throw it out. As such I'm a pack rat.)

If you get rid of it though, please remember someone made it; put forth their time and effort to create a work of art. As an artist I would personally raise hell with the person who decided to throw my work away after having sold or given it to them, even if it were given as a gift from someone else who bought it for them. Please find it a new owner. Pass it on to someone else who would treasure it.

If you want to keep it or get rid of it, it is up to you to decide what you want to do with it. Some like to get rid of old collars so there New Master or Mistress will give them what they want. I know some who will keep them and use them when they attend play parties. If it does not hold any real value to you then get red of it and start fresh and new.

Especially if it crosses the US/Canada border...UPS dings the recipient ~C$30, plus tax, for a brokerage fee.

I keep and wear my collars.

They remind me of the people who gave them to me, yes, but in most cases this is a positive thing. In the few instances when it's negative, I find the best way to exorcise the bad memeories it to wear them while making good memories.

Perhaps it's that, for me, a collar is a fetish object more than a sacred symbol, but I find I have no trouble wearing past collars, and I have yet to have someone I've been with who's objected to it or been ofended by it. After all, I belong to/am playing with -that- person now, right? Not the one who gave me the collar.

I kept the collar my former master gave me because it reminds me of what I once was, the person that wasn't really ready but still was... I like being reminded at my past because I know how much I have grown those years
