Actually, no one knows what language the Huns spoke. They probably spoke more than one, since they were more of a federation than an ethnic group. Anyway, it's a fascinating question. Now and then you find weirdos who insist that this or that place name in Switzerland or whatever is an old Hun name. But no one knows.

I assume all the narcolepsy comments are intended to convey that people know what "hypnagogic" means.

couple of things quickly; this whole thread chokes me up, and having a numbness in my arm due to carpal tunnel, I am going to take some narcotics and later fall asleep with my arm.

Mene, Mene Tekel Pahrsin (from the sanskritt)

The finger of language; having writ on.....no longer is based one whit in what is writ..........

LOLOL, (christ, this is even beyond my kenning (also Irish for wailing as in sitting shiva))

is that numbness coming from the brachial plexus or the distal phalanx of the median part? yanno, i could fix that so you'd be more comfortable.

i'll be amongst the intelligent and good looking; he's already got a backup linguistician.

OK, new word: "hypnagogic"

that state between being awake&aware and being asleep - akin to being in a hypnotic trance

heres an easy one - prestidigitation

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (2/26/2006 5:19:59 AM)

Prestidigitation is how I lost my twenty in three-card monty.

Let's go with...hmmmm...supervenient

mnottertail -> RE: Word Fight (2/26/2006 10:48:29 AM)

overseeingly--

without looking it up, but I suspect it more complex than that.

laconically (enough of the loquaciously),

Ron

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (2/26/2006 11:11:42 AM)

Nope.

mnottertail -> RE: Word Fight (2/26/2006 11:16:51 AM)

Shit! I knew it wasn't gonna be easy, but I am not gonna look it up.......

I await the verdict.

The word is supervenient (by Lordandmaster), in case this spans a page...

Ron

not part of a thing but something which comes after

briefly, pithy - not wordy

new word - one i like to use when talking to women - spathic

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (2/27/2006 10:35:38 AM)

Laughing...I looked it up. I'll keep mum.

Petruchio -> RE: Word Fight (2/27/2006 5:14:59 PM)

Hmm… (spastically figuring out spathic)

Thanatosian -> RE: Word Fight (2/28/2006 9:01:01 AM)

another hint - especially useful when speaking to/with a well endowed woman - or one in a bustier or corset

LMAO What can you tell me about the looshidity of walruses?

my guess: overflowing mounds?

new word:busk

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (2/28/2006 7:36:13 PM)

"Spathic" (as I discovered by looking it up) means "showing or characterized by good cleavage"--except that it's cleavage in a mineralogical sense, so you speak of "spathic" ore, not "spathic" chicks. Clever.

I'm pretty sure "busk" is a slang word. A busker is someone who performs for money in the street.

New word...frisson

Thanatosian -> RE: Word Fight (3/1/2006 7:11:12 AM)

Ah, but for a paranomasiac like myself, spathic is a perfect term to use with chicks - fulfilling two needs at once as it were.

a frisson is a sudden thrill, sometimes of fear, other times of excitement

new word - nocuous

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/1/2006 8:54:16 AM)

I assume that would have to mean "harmful"--opposite of "innocuous."

OK, next word...lues
