We have a little bit of stocktaking to do. "Lues" (pronounced LOO-weez) does not quite mean "plague." I believe it could, in theory, refer to any infestation, but in practice it was commonly used for what we call "syphilis." It's a very rare term now, but you find it a lot in the old sexological literature. I've looked up "busk" in OED and found what has to be the definition that Hohoho was looking for: quote:
