either a retort to a retort or you are pissed off at the barber cause he didn't give you a close shave and you want him to do it again.

What?

Ron

You talkin' to me?

You're being a little prickly, don't you think? Lighten up!

Such a short response is out of character, you're usually so multiloquent.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/20/2006 12:52:40 PM)

Perhaps, but it's so mellifluous that most people don't object.  I have an adoring audience.

Music to my years, yes.  Antipodal to my raspy musings.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/20/2006 1:01:07 PM)

New Zealand was fun for a while.  I was there for a month about 20 years ago.  Quite bucolic.

bucolic.

Pastoral, yes.  But New Zealand is also  famous for it's variegated landscape.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/20/2006 1:19:29 PM)

Have you ever been to New Zealand?  It's the same fucking landscape from one shore to the other.  Except for Rotorua, where the topography is positively heteroclite.

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: Word Fight (3/20/2006 8:08:08 PM)

humm..well Rotorua may have differing forms...But speaking of differing forms have you ever seen a knee when its form is differing from being edemetous?

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/20/2006 8:35:03 PM)

Do you mean edematous?

Rotorua smells edematous, come to think of it.

Edited to add: "Heteroclite" is more in the realm of "anomalous," "differing from the norm," than "having different forms."

mnottertail -> RE: Word Fight (3/21/2006 12:54:33 PM)

I thought your DeNiro impression hit the mark squarely. I didn't find it prickly at all.  I admit, it isn't the BEST DeNiro I have heard, but it was in the upper crust.

So I am confused as usual, is there a word outstanding at this point?

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/21/2006 12:57:31 PM)

I guess we're waiting to hear whether the word is really "edemetous," in which case I have no idea what it means, or whether it was supposed to be "edematous," in which case it's just too fucking gross to spend any more time on.

So I propose "larmoyant."

candystripper -> RE: Word Fight (3/21/2006 8:40:53 PM)

larmoyant  = sentimental comedy.

New Word:  adhocracy

candystripper

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/21/2006 8:56:05 PM)

Where are you getting these definitions, pink?  That one is totally wrong.

Anyone want to try again?

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: Word Fight (3/21/2006 9:21:21 PM)

To
Lam...could be edematous.as regards to your spelling..however,.it simply means swelling...

as far as larmoyant..have no clue..:0)

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: Word Fight (3/21/2006 9:22:53 PM)

so my word would be...aubade.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/21/2006 9:31:55 PM)

Aubade is a beautiful word...to go from edematous to aubade is to go from a swollen infected piece of flesh to a poem cursing the dawn because one has spent the night in the arms of one's beloved.

candystripper -> RE: Word Fight (3/22/2006 6:33:53 AM)

*sigh* i guessed based on a word spelt very nearly the same.  Will now go find the correct definition in shame.

 "tearful, weepy: lachrymose"

Right?

candystripper

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (3/22/2006 9:34:26 AM)

Yes, and I was thinking of using "lachrymose" as my next one.  So much for that.

How about "vademecum"?

mnottertail -> RE: Word Fight (3/22/2006 10:24:28 AM)

LOLOLOLOL,

I finally got something I can bust you on, I feel like one of those cheap collarme snipers, Lam!!!!!!!!!!

Sticky space bar, my friend?

That's gonna be two words--  vade mecum
unless you were talking about the secret ingredient in the one mouthwash.......

LOL (I am just as pleased as punch!  HHH)
