Uhhhh...as a noun, it's one word.  (As a command, it's two.)

I was playing in English, but I think Ron wants to go to Latin.  I'll pop his bubble: in Latin, "vade mecum" means "come with me."  Ha!  In English, "vademecum" has a different meaning (though it's obviously derived from Latin).

Well, I will keep trying, you never cease to amaze me.

the two word one in my estimation, might be something like a wad of cash in your pocket, a little black book, perhaps a pocket knife......something that is handy that you keep close, like on your person.... now if you warrant that the definition I have given is close enough to correct, does the one word mean about the same or?
Am I all fucked up? (in this specific case, Lam.......LOL I can guess at your overall appraisal of the situation)

Ron

I looked this up just to make sure I hadn't gone insane, and, surprise surprise, it's recognized as two words in English too.  OED has it as hyphenated (vade-mecum), a crappy compromise.  The only way I'd ever seen it written in English is as one word.

OK, your turn.

That's doubly wrong.  "Thanatopsis" is not the same thing as "thanatology," and neither one means "scientific."

Now there's a word you don't see every day.  I didn't know it, so I'm out, but it's in OED.  Anyone?

Odd that it's not attested before 1971.
