For bandit  This link will not give the actual definition, but it gives insight into the word. Skip the link if you don't want the hint.

That's an instrument used to determine the size of something at a distance.

Edited to add: Oh, I looked it up and I was wrong.  It's an instrument used to determine the DISTANCE of something from the observer.  Oops.

"Pasquinade" is a lovely word--another eponym.  It's from "Pasquino," a statue in Rome where people posted public lampoons.

Next one..."inwit"

Close.  It's sometimes considered obsolete, but it's a real English word and has been used in the twentieth century.  (You people are nailing all the current words right and left, so I thought I had to try an old one to throw a curve atcha.)

BIG hint: It's a Middle English word that James Joyce revived.  It's part of a set phrase: "agenbite of inwit" (variously spelled).

Very interesting.  In Turkish, "tabanca" means "pistol."  Who'da thunk it?  You learn something new on CM every day.

OK, "inwit" means "conscience."  "Agenbite of inwit" is "remorse of conscience."

Your turn, murmur.  If "tabanca" can mean "brokenheartedness," it may as well mean "pistol," too.
