A Russian warship has seized a pirate vessel with 29 people on board off the Somali coast, Russian news reports say.
Guns and navigation equipment were found during a search of the pirate boat, officials were quoted as saying.
They said the suspected pirates were thought to have launched two unsuccessful attacks against a tanker with a Russian crew.
Russia is one of the countries that has deployed naval ships against pirates operating in the area.

We should be shooting them, not arresting them if we and other countries were serious about ending all of this..

Louve00 -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 6:12:20 PM)

One point for us.  Thanks to the Russians! [sm=cheering.gif]

Please tell me your kidding with this.......and on the off chance your not, please explain to me what separates us from banana republic's once we abandon being a nation of laws.

When pirates take innocent Americans hostage in International waters, we have every right to kill them. Obama and the Navy did absolutely the right thing. If it were done more often this pirate thing would be out of business in short order.

slvemike4u -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 6:46:35 PM)

If when you state we have every right....you are referring to doing what is necessary to secure the safety of innocents....yes I agree. If what you are suggesting is we have the right to kill in cold blood, absent the threat to innocents.....No we don't,and never have had that dubious right.

servantforuse -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 6:50:37 PM)

When a pirate/terrorist has an AK47 pointed at the head of an American taken hostage, I don't see them as innocent. We should have had 4 snipers instead of 3. It would have been a lot cheaper for all of us. They had every right to take them out.

Different situations. One had immediate threat of harm to a hostage, and this one is they boarded a suspected pirate ship.

Either everyone deserves due process, or no one deserves it. If you try to pick and choose, then due process means nothing.

What was I thinking!! lol
I heard an interview with the Capt of that ship on the Today show.  He said..."It's not a matter of a chance of getting taken by pirates, its a matter of when you'll be taken by them.  I say shoot em, kill em.  Make them think twice about any ship they're thinking of taking, like citizens shooting robbers are giving them second thoughts, now.  They don't make their money on the waters fishing anymore.  They're out there pirating!

servantforuse -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:02:19 PM)

The Somalia pirates don't really seem to care who they kidnap and terrorize. I don't see them playing by any set of rules. Why should any one else who is trying to put an end to this play by rules. Remember when Libya was giving the United States all kinds of problems? Reagan ended it in one night when a couple of fighter jets bombed his house. We didn't hear from him in over 20 years.

Louve00 -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:02:42 PM)

If there wearing strings of ammo around their necks and have AK47's, I would think there is more than probable cause there.  Ok, its an assumption, but we assume worse.

servantforuse -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:05:47 PM)

As most know on these boards know, I am not an Obama supporter. I do think he has plans in the works to protect American ships pasing through that area of the world. I for one will be supporting him all the way..End it soon or it will never end..

slvemike4u -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:07:01 PM)

Because our adherence to those "rules"...to the ideals of Law and due process define us and separate us from the likes of this scum. They ,nor Islamic terrorrists should be allowed to define who we as a people are.It is really that simple, and apparently that easy to forget.

Louve00 -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:10:37 PM)

I am an Obama supporter.  I personally think all the division between the Dem's and Rep's are half our problem.  One decision one way or the other is blamed on the party who did it.  A thing done one way is because they are liberal or conservative.  If only we can think beyond that.  I guess, in the end, its not possible, but it hampers things, distracts people, and pulls us from causes that need attention that goes beyond a Dem or Republican point of view.

servantforuse -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:14:15 PM)

SlvMke, Remember The laws of the United States mean nothing in international waters; Anyone killing out there is out there. They are not in Milwaukee..

slvemike4u -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:19:10 PM)

Agents or representatives of our Gov't do not shed their responsibility to our ideals after leaving territorial waters Servant. As a matter of fact ,as they are representing us they are duty bound to conduct themselves in a lawful manner. What about that concept is so hard to understand, what about the ideals it means to be an American leads a number of our citizens to beleive as long as it is done 100 miles from shore....no problem.

servantforuse -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:21:31 PM)

Maybe you should tell Obama that. Then he could relay that pap to the Navy seals...Go Navy.

slvemike4u -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:27:49 PM)

Are you misunderstanding me on purpose servant....I have never disagreed with shooting those pirates in order to secure the safe return of an american seaman...I defy you to find a post of mine that indicated that. What I objected to was your "take no prisoners mentality"...your repeated statement that any arrest of these pirates is a huge mistake...I believe the sentiment was ...better and cheaper just to shoot them.....that is the sort of nonsense that earns us the tittle "ugly Americans"

servantforuse -> RE: Russians capture Somalia Pirates (4/28/2009 7:42:10 PM)

I think that the 'take no prisoners' mentality is the only thing these guys are going to understand. I mentioned in another thread what I went though working in Milwaukees inner city with the Phone Co. I don't like violence, but you can't invite these guys for coffee and donuts and solve this problem. Unfortunately there is only one way to handle it.
