Hi, everyone...

What a topic in which to be making my initial foray into the community!

FWIW, I *was* there (AOL, in a chatroom called LeChateau) when Steve (Quagmyr) had the idea for the BDSM symbol. While there wasn't a vote, he did ask an awful lot of people for feedback before finalizing the symbol now commonly known as "the" symbol.

Whether or not he has been mistaken about the depth of enforcement permissible for his Intellectual Property doesn't change the reality that he did create what he claims to have created.

I was also a long time haunter of Le Chateau back in the day! Nice to see folks from that era.

I also was repeatedly over the years contacted and told I had to either pay him in some manner or display his "copyright". The truth seems to be that he does not hold the copyright to it, as he claimed.

I personally just chose to not be affiliated in any way with it - not due to my interactions with him but due to the fact that I'm just a weirdo, I guess. LOL.

I did not really ever interact with him on any level even in Le Chateau other than his contacts about the symbol, so I can say nothing about his character on any level other than those contacts. For all I know he's nice enough, as a person.

The fact that he does not hold the copyright at all, and never has, is something for folks to come to their own conclusions about I'd wager.

The page does seem rather ... angst-ridden, I'll admit. Still interesting, though.
