Several of the ladies on here have mentioned that they can tell when their sub has "entered sub space".  Do dommes enter domme space?  If so, how do you know and how do you feel?  What makes it so different?

MissJanice2 -> RE: Domme Space (4/29/2009 1:29:30 PM)

I have been fortunate to experience both sub and Domme space.
When I became a Domme, I had a hard time with my feelings after an intense session with my slave.   I felt victory. I felt high.

Endorphins produce a lot of emotions.   That is what I experienced.  It is a wonderful thing.

Best Wishes,

MJ

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Domme Space (4/29/2009 2:09:09 PM)

I have no endorphin response, so subspace is not for me. [&o]   When I am in serious top mode, I am super focused and aware, like I have eyes everywhere, but I can tune out all distractions.  At the same time, I'm very peaceful, so it's not the alertness that comes from an emergency situation.

Hmmmm, I know I get something going on cuz I get 'top drop' later, after all is done . . . . . My mood plummets, I get a 'come down' 4 to 8 hours later . . ... .

When my 'dom hat' is on it's similar to the headspace I get into before & while I'm in front of a crowd (performing poetry, facilitating a group, teaching, demonstrating, or whatever) . .. . . I'm both nervous & calm, detached & attentive, very focused but taking in lots of peripherals at the same time . ..... (I also get something similar to 'top drop' after performing, actually, now that I think about it . . .... . )

& I get that 'time slows down thing', too, where when I'm done the time just flew by while I wasn't paying attention to its passage . ..... .

& since I go both ways, I'll note that the bottom & top head-spaces do feel 'different' to me, tho' there's hefty chunks of endorphin stuff going on with both . . ... .

I'm a serious endorphin junky, mostly via exercise . ... . & it has withdrawal symptoms in relation to the exercise, too, which are comparable to the BDSM endorphin-producing activities I note, above . .... . The BDSM ones are just more intense (both the endorphin production & the withdrawal) . . . . . . .

LadyPact -> RE: Domme Space (4/29/2009 2:54:46 PM)

It's something like runner's high.  Yes, I have almost ridiculous amounts of endorphin rush!  It can and has lasted into the following day.  The good flow usually hits Me when the scene is over, during aftercare.  I think I'm more in focus mode before that, as LH said.  My eyes do change colors.  (They become this bright, brilliant green.)  Most people would look at Me and think I was under the influence.

Dumb stuff I've done in Top space:

Walked into a wall.  (Don't think the males will ever let Me forget that one.)

Caught a case of the giggles so bad that I thought I was going to be asked to leave.

Completely forgotten to eat for 24 hours.

The drawback to being one of those folks who hit great space is that I am much more prone to Top drop, even after all of these years.  I'm much better of taking care of the person that I'm playing with, than I am taking care of Myself.

I think we both spoke about this some time ago. I'm told my eyes change color too but perhaps its just my pupils dilate more.
In D space I become very tuned in and everything becomes much more concentrated There could be a hundred people in the room but its just me and the submissive. Also I find time just disappears and what I believe to be minutes can turn into hours.
I only find that I really go into D space when the person I am with is going into sub space. The best way I can explain it for me is, its a very deep and meaningful journey together and the aftercare is a shared euphoria.

That is exactly how I would describe it... an adrenaline rush! I remember once I met this sub and W/we "played" after it I was just reeling... I felt so "high" for hours... then when I came down, I was exhausted.

LadyPact -> RE: Domme Space (4/29/2009 3:23:45 PM)

Maria, I think you are right.  We have talked about this before.

I love it though!

Steponme73 -> RE: Domme Space (4/29/2009 3:34:37 PM)

Michael Jordan talked about being "in the zone" where you are super focused and you are on top of your game totally.  I am assuming being in D space is kind of the same thing.  I have felt that a couple of times and I must admit it is a great feeling.  I was going to ask but I guess it has already been answered, does your sub have to get into sub space to make it really meaningful for you or can you get there without that.
In Shogun, while they par-boiled a guy alive the Samurai would kind of go into a trance listening to the screams and moaning of the victim, I would assume this is the same kind of thing, just on a different level.

MsDDom -> RE: Domme Space (4/29/2009 4:52:08 PM)

My mood changed...it was not a weird feeling, but I recognized what I was going through. I have had both the high feeling and the feeling where I needed space/peace (no one around for a moment).

LovingMistress45 -> RE: Domme Space (4/29/2009 7:07:20 PM)

When it happens for me I am extremely focused, it is as if nothing else exsists at that moment.  I have energy that will last for hours - I have scened with a sub for over 8 hours before.  When it is going on I don't feel tired, now during the drop I do.  However, I have had times where I have stayed in Dom space for a couple of days, it is kind of cool actually.  I have also been told my eyes change, become brighter and have an evil glint to them :) I become insatiable in just about every way - I really need a true masochist when I am like that, I need someone that can really get off on the pain as that feeds me and pushes me deeper.

ditto.

I workout plenty and I don't get any rush that I'm aware of. Just hopefully better sleep...and a little more lean muscle mass. Hum...so should I not expect to ever experience sub space?

Ah. [:D]

Don't know about others, but endorphins are morphine-like -- so no rush, more like I get kinda bliss-y, minor aches & pains recede, & I just feel good . . ... . & it's subtle, low-key . . .. .

I get adrenaline rushes, but that's very different from the endorphin thing, very speedy & I get hyper & agitated . ...

Oh. & from exercise I know that, for me, it takes at least 15 minutes of continuous physical activity before I start to feel the effects of the endorphins . .. . . & that can be a tough 15 minutes to get thru; usually I have a lot of resistant, bitchy, whiny, disgruntled stuff that goes thru my head before the endorphins start to kick in . . . . . .

& Dom- or sub-space is more than just getting high on endorphins, I suspect a more significant player in this is 'trance state' or 'trance induction' . . . . . . Humans go into trance states pretty easily -- meditation, (self-)hypnosis, even reading a story, make use of our propensity to enter light trance states quite easily . ... . & clearly, to my eyes, a chunk of what goes on in BDSM play involves trance induction . . . . . .

There's also, clearly, to my eyes, a lot of 'psychological release' that goes on in both sides of a BDSM interaction, & the 'feelings' experienced by bottoms & tops are probably impacted by those resultant flows of biochemicals . .. . . .

I have only ever gone into a 'trance state' once during topping and this was when I was doing something fairly extreme and sadistic to a guy. I can only relate it to an out of body experience. I actually felt like I was being sucked into his body. I was so fascinated by what happened to me that I continually talked about it to anyone who would listen for weeks after. It was this very experience that took me from being a purist sadistic dominant to a sado/masochist switch. I needed to feel that pain as a completion to what happened to us both that day.
As a masochist I need to go fairly extreme (i hate light pain because it just hurts!) to get into that trance state and feeling of (as the north American Indians call it) crossing over.

Andalusite -> RE: Domme Space (4/30/2009 9:04:18 AM)

LAgirl, I don't usually get an endorphuin rush from exercising, but I do from BDSM play, on both sides of the whip.

thetammyjo -> RE: Domme Space (4/30/2009 10:56:48 AM)

I've had two separate feelings.

Topspace is when I'm very focused on the activity we are doing, very focused on my partner's responses, very likely highly aware of what is going on around us in a protective way.

Domspace is when I'm very focused on myself and really embracing my full power and authority, I give commands easily and readily with a slight second thought, and just go with the moment.

MsFlutter -> RE: Domme Space (4/30/2009 11:34:54 AM)

Many years of military PT almost-every-dayum-day and I experienced only 'runner's bitchiness' - never euphoria.

Domme space finds me ultra-dialed-in. I am completely focused on the scene - very grounded and peaceful - but flying at the same time. At times, I almost feel as though my hair is crackling from the energy. I'm very aware of the environment around me but it is another dimension. Later I sleep like a log and spend the next day in my head.

Interesting.  All these feelings are similar to those reported by people who are 'love struck'.

Well, there are only so many chemicals to work with in the human body & / or mind -- dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, adrenaline, oxytocin, & so on & so forth . .... . & they're pretty much all versatile, each being usable for a variety of purposes . . .. . .

For me, anymore, I tend to notice similarities as much as distinctions, so I'm not surprised when one supposedly 'distinct' mood state actually resembles another putatively 'different' mood state . . . . . . .
