How Modern Liberals Think

It will perhaps be interesting to see whether the comments posted to this thread illustrate his thesis, eh?

Well it's a thread full of straw, starting with you.

What else would happen starting from a trolling post (which isn't like you)?

Granting that I don't make a habit of burying the board in liberal-bashing threads, and in fact don't even think that "liberals" per se are a problem, I'm confident that the topic had a point when viewed in the context of other threads running at the time back in 2009. But I guess the question remains whether posting dismissive comments without engaging the material illustrates Sayet's thesis.

K.

There does not seem to be much thinking that goes on. Most everything is done by "feeling."

I feel the world must be THIS way and if it is not it is because of those evil people over there.

It is one thing to recognize that a person has certain feelings. It is another to base policy on those feelings. Feelings are not rational. Feelings may or may not have any basis in reality. All this emoting all over the place has got to stop.

bounty44 -> RE: How Modern Liberals Think (3/10/2017 5:19:28 PM)

well I hope I didn't/don't/ spoil the place for you by the joining of their jingle with the revolting image of mnottertroll.

Well at the risk of appearing to discriminate against journalists in matters of psychodiagnostic expertise, it does seem relevant to note that Lyle Rossiter is a board certified psychiatrist. But that's okay, I understand it makes no difference to you.

That cheerleader skirt looks cute on you, bro.

Oh, and look; the English major forgot a comma where it should have been . . .

"How can you live in the least imperialistic nation in human history . . . "

Right on!

GB and China were worse than the USA, back in the day. Ergo, every other of the nation states, even Denmark and Isle of Wight, today are more imperialist than the nation that installed every dictatorship they could in South America and the Middle East, in direct counterpoise and contradiction to our own putative cause for 'freedom! Just ask every citizen of every nation being beneficiary thereby today.

We can't wait to see the documentary: "USA invasion of the Middle East; the least imperialistic invasive foot stomp of imperialism in World History".

In order to deserve credit for not being imperialistic, a nation would first need to have the capacity to be imperialistic. We don't laud quadriplegics for refraining from running around beating people up. Ergo, you can't seem to think rationally.

Did I get caught up in the "latest," there?

You caught me out. I listen too much to people on the streets and the crowd on the Uni shuttle service the other public trans sometimes. Sorry for that one.

Edwird -> RE: How Modern Liberals Think (3/10/2017 11:12:38 PM)

Next thing you know, I'll be blasting mindless 100 dB fender-vibrating bass and 'artistic auto tune.'

One of several reasons I prefer walking or taking the bike to the store. Gotta sell the car, before I get further tempted

Throwing your bike at the offending vehicle incurs much less rise in car insurance rates than ramming it with your own vehicle.

Point taken. But I'm just tired of all the crap about "At least we aren't as bad as the other guys were" being conveniently translated to "'least imperialistic."

That is dishonestly disingenuous and way too convenient.

Lest it escaped notice, this is actually an argument for an "enlightened regression," such as only fantasy could present. Believe me, I wish for that sometimes too, aside from the war aspect, but it is not reality.

Earbuds and walking across the street and trying to get through the self-checkout line at the grocery store while engrossed in finger exercises and deep eye focus thereby on something somebody was stupid enough to pay $200-$750 plus $40-$80 a month for while accepting their predictable brief "Aughhh!!" or "sorry!" few microsecond moments in the process is apparently just a part of evolution.

Quick reflexes are key in keeping the real world at bay, here.

Along with seeing how much society can get away with not having even the most basic economic vs. useful function/utility sense co-coinciding with above.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Edwird -> RE: How Modern Liberals Think (3/10/2017 11:52:27 PM)

I knew you'd love it.

In any case, read the edit.

Not that it would do anything but further confound.

You are going over the edge again. Go take your meds... and get some sleep.

Edwird -> RE: How Modern Liberals Think (3/11/2017 12:17:15 AM)

$9.99 for the phone. $80 a year for the service ($6.67/mo.). $55/mo. for high-speed and TV, which I never watch (cheaper because of the package they insist on). $209 for a re-built 2.66 kHz 4M desktop. Windows newest OP and all Office free for the last three upgrades after initial free Vista + full Office from a heavily discounted laptop which I doubled on the desktop for free, to start it off.

I'm not a dummy.

People on meds spend a lot more on everything than I do, starting with the meds.

I edited immediately after, but the site was too busy laughing to let it go. And it's still not there.

I was just finding amusement at some saying a year or or more ago that I wasn't getting caught up and was behind the times for not paying for a device I have no use for.

Not unlike those who actually paid (I'm serious) $2,200 for a Radio Shack desk top in 1984-88 which had a 264 kB (that one is not a typo) hard drive. That's what paying $700 for a Stupid Phone is like today, and not unlike those paying long distance fees for internet access then as those paying $40-$60/mo. on their Stupid Phone because they want to have access to everything they already paid $120/mo. for at home, wherever they go.

Some who've gone over the edge have done things like this, not to put myself in that;
