I actually think I'm in danger of becoming an Owen Wilson fan. Each of the last two nights, I've watched a movie in which he's had a substantial role, and each time I was surprised to discover that I actually found him highly watchable and entertaining! Should I be contacting my doctor in the morning, or is he really not as thoroughly dreadful as I remembered him being? The first couple of times I saw the guy, he came across as so smarmy and self-absorbed I could hardly stand to watch him, and that impression has stayed with me for years. What's the deal here? Anyone else think he's good, or have I gone daft?

"Meet The Parents" last night, and "Night In The Museum" tonight. He had relatively small roles in both, but i was surprised at how much I liked what he did with both of them. The first time I ever saw him was in that excruciatingly bad remake of "The Haunting". He was so beyond awful in that POS, for years I went out of my way to avoid seeing anything that had him in it. So he sorta snuck up on me the last two nights, I actually really liked him in both of these.

I wonder if there's a diagnosis for this.

He played jerks and therefore was able to bring some reality to the roles.

night in the museum was ok, didn't really think much of it.  never really cared for him much in anything he's done.  mayeb he's getting better with age.

Yeah, i didn't care for the movie itself either. Had a few bright spots (Mickey Rooney's character was a hoot, and Dick van Dyke is the consummate comedic pro even at 163 or whatever), but the story line was weak and I don't care much for Ben Stiller. He's damned good, but the way he plays his roles always makes me feel very uncomfortable watching him. It's like he's showing me too much of his vulnerability, and I feel like a voyeur. Which is a pretentious, pseudo-intellectual way of  saying he usually creeps me out.

What I liked about Owen Wilson in both of these films was that along with his abrasive, fratboy schtick, he seems to have found a way to work in a natural, easygoing appeal that I really enjoy watching. Doesn't make him any less smarmy, but takes the edge off of it and makes him seem like less of a self-absorbed prick.  Maybe the thing that makes it work so well with me is precisely the fact that I expected to hate him, and the likability sort of snuck up and blindsided me. The sneaky little bastard.

Personally, I would love to whip and beat him and do some serious CBT on him. And I don't mean in the good way.

I don't care how good actor her is...those lips n this face in general just..his look, it's enough to drive me suicidal how ANNOYING can a person look. I'd love it if he never got a job on the screen again, he simply is too gawd damn ugly for it!!! I even prefer to watch woody allen
I can't stand that man, he was the one ruining the night at the museum in my opinion..oh..yes along with robin williams, damn those 2 people they sooo ruin everything.

I don't mind Owen as an actor.  I'm not huge on the guy, he's okay.  Good looking?  Not so much.  But his acting, if I'm going to see a movie, him being in it wouldn't sway me one way or another.

LOL ! I pay extra for that!
Actually I liked him in Cars cos you could not see his face...
I also didnt mind him terribly in Marley and Me, which I thought was the most saccherine piece of poo I have seen in a long time. He actually showed some vulnerability and was not overly smarmy.

Well, it just goes to show you how different tastes are from person to person 'cuz I really like Owen Wilson.

I think he's handsome in a weird sort of way and I loved him in "Behind Enemy Lines." That's the first place I remember seeing him and, though that's not my usual favorite genre of movie, I've seen it over and over.

I liked him in "You, Me and Dupree." He was cute and funny and, of course, in "Meet the Parents."

I like him. He's not your classic beauty but that's why I like him. There's something a bit different about him. He stands out from the crowd..............luci
