It was all over the News yesterday. GAWD, it was painful to watch!
She must be one of those in D.C. with an i.q. lower than Bush's.
Would the Good People of California do all of us a favor and send her out into the dreaded private sector please?
She is definately not what we need in Washington.  Stupid is just, well,...stupid.

"In a testimony that could bolster Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claim that the CIA misled her during briefings on detainee interrogations, former Senator Bob Graham insisted on Thursday that he too was kept in the dark about the use of waterboarding, and called the agency's records on these briefings "suspect."

In an interview with the Huffington Post, the former Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman said that approximately a month ago, the CIA provided him with false information about how many times and when he was briefed on enhanced interrogations."

Pray tell, let me see if I understand this clearly.

This government flunky claims that the Central Intelligence Agency dissembled to him how often they met with him and what they said to him?

This, peons, is just one example of why Democracy doesn’t work.

Graham is apparently a very consistent diarist. If he's saying he has no record of the two supposed briefings by the CIA then it is very possible that the CIA is lying.

DarkSteven -> RE: Pelosi says Bush team misled her on waterboarding (5/15/2009 6:47:20 AM)

I'm biased here.  The CIA does nothing except traffic in information.  They live and die on the basis of what they find out, analyze, and communicate.  I cannot conceive of them making bad notes, or deliberately misleading.

My suspicion is that Pelosi had a hazy memory of the events, and then convinced herself how things went down.

If Bush, Cheney, AND Pelosi could go down here, I'd be happy.  Add in Reid, and I'll be VERY happy.

So let me see if I have this straight.  Pelosi is claiming that all this talk of the Democrats being complicit in the use of "torture" is a distraction from the Democrats putting all the blame on the Republicans?

God, I wish San Francisco would fire her ass.

Heretic, you know that is not true!  She said herself that consolidating the democrats party power in congress was more important at the time then stopping "torture."

Ms. Pelosi said she had supported a letter opposing the tactics sent in 2003 by Representative Jane Harman of California, who replaced Ms. Pelosi as the top Democrat on the intelligence panel when Ms. Pelosi took over as Democratic leader. But she said that she realized a letter would not change administration policy and said she instead set about to win Democratic control of Congress, then held by Republicans.

They've been playing that on the News today too and Pelosi is obviously not a good liar.
It's like watching some kid have to stand up in class for a book report and they didn't do their homework!
Stuttering, hands shaking, not knowing what to say. She's not the sharpest knife in the drawer is she?
Wow, that was *really* bad.

Gingrich: Pelosi 'Lied,' 'Despicable,' 'Dishonest,' 'Vicious,' 'Trivial'

Quote

In an interview with ABC News Radio’s Marcus Wilson, Gingrich, R-Ga., said Pelosi, D-Calif., “has lied to the House” in claiming that she was never briefed by the CIA about the Bush administration’s use of waterboarding and other harsh tactics.

"I think she has lied to the House, and I think that the House has an absolute obligation to open an inquiry, and I hope there will be a resolution to investigate her. And I think this is a big deal. I don't think the Speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security matters,” Gingrich said.

He continued: "I think this is the most despicable, dishonest and vicious political effort I've seen in my lifetime."
"She is a trivial politician, viciously using partisanship for the narrowist of purposes, and she dishonors the Congress by her behavior.""Speaker Pelosi's the big loser, because she either comes across as incompetent, or dishonest. Those are the only two defenses,” Gingrich said. “The fact is she either didn't do her job, or she did do her job and she's now afraid to tell the truth.”

Pelosi yesterday accused the CIA of giving her “inaccurate and incomplete information” on the use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation tactics by the Bush administration, saying that CIA officials are guilty of “misleading the Congress of the United States.”

Her recollection is contradicted by an intelligence report sent to Congress last week, which said Pelosi was briefed on enhanced interrogation techniques “that had been employed” in September 2002.

Gingrich also says that playing politics around anti-terror techniques could “get a lot of people killed.”

“This is really, really dangerous, and it is going to get a lot of people killed, if we don’t call a halt to it.”

Former Senator Graham is not having memory problems. The fact is he and others checked his diary for the days in question and found no mention of the briefings and no time not filled by other activities. Considering that he quite famously keeps a diary of everything he does every day it seems odd that he would have records of every other CIA briefing during his career but no indication of the these 2 I'm more than skeptical that they occured.

Hmmmm, having lived in Newt's district when he was in the house.....NO!....he is a hypocrit who likes to re-write history....as odd as it might seem, I like Bob Barr(he was also our Congressman) better and he is much more to the other side than Newt....but, Bob Barr was honest in the things he said and did....

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Pelosi says Bush team misled her on waterboarding (5/15/2009 6:14:17 PM)

Guess Nancy needs to get her story straight.

" CIA Director Leon Panetta today rejected  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's charge that the agency misled her in 2002 about its use of waterboarding and other coercive interrogation methods on suspected terrorists. "

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/15/AR2009051502743.html?hpid=topnews

"Rebuffed by the Democratic head of the CIA and left hanging by a Democratic White House, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi backpedaled Friday on her claims that the CIA lied to her about water-boarding. "

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22584.html

" Previously she said she had been briefed in 2002 that waterboarding and other controversial methods had been approved, but not that they had been used.
She then said the agency misled her by explicitly informing her that those methods had not been employed. "

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8052993.stm

And now (drum roll) her latest press release:

"We all share great respect for the dedicated men and women of the intelligence community who are deeply committed to the safety and security of the American people. My criticism of the manner in which the Bush Administration did not appropriately inform Congress is separate from my respect for those in the intelligence community who work to keep our country safe. What is important now is to be united in our commitment to ensuring the security of our country; that, and how Congress exercises its oversight responsibilities, will continue to be my focus as we move forward."

Bullshit.  The most despicable and dishonest behavior he's ever seen is when he pushed Clinton's impeachment on perjury while living a double life himself, cheating on his wife while piously criticizing Clinton for doing the exact same thing.  Yeah, partisan.

How is this related to national security?  The GOP trotted that one out plenty.  It would hurt national security if we let people know that we tortured... um, that was already out.  It would hurt national security if we released pictures of coffins of servicemen.  It would hurt national security if we disputed whether Pelosi knew about waterboarding.  Come on!

Note that none of those folks screaming about compromising national security peeped when the Bush administration treasonously outed a CIA agent.  Their credibility in my eyes is nil.

Edited to add:

Despite the fact that I'm not a fan of the GOP, I'm not a fan of Peloosi either.  Orion's post is shocking because it shows a huge weakness of Pelosi: she does not work well with others.  Amazing as it sounds, she made her story and went public with it without checking with anyone even in her own party to see if they'd support it.  As Speaker, she's responsible for getting legislation passed by working with others.  She has no ability or desire to do that.

Sounds like you're saying her problem wasn't lying but not checking her lie with her colleagues.

"Florida's Graham Backs Pelosi On CIA Briefings"

Graham is known as a meticulous note-taker and has maintained a daily log that fills hundreds of spiral notebooks, which now reside at the University of Florida Library of Florida History.

"Several weeks ago, when this issue started to bubble up, I called the CIA and asked for the dates in which I had been briefed," Graham tells Robert Siegel. "They gave me four: two in April of '02, two in September."

Graham says he consulted his logs "and determined that on three of the four dates there was no briefing held."
He adds: "On one date, Sept. 27, '02, there was a briefing held and, according to my notes, it was on the topic of detainee interrogation."

Graham says the CIA was initially reticent when he told the agency what he had found in his notes.

"They said, 'We will check and call back,'" Graham recalled. "When they finally did a few days later, they indicated that I was correct. Their information was in error. There was no briefing on the first three of four dates."

Graham says the agency offered no explanation regarding how it came up with the other dates.

Full article.

The only ones changing their story are bushies...

The only ones calling for a full disclosure are the Speaker and the dems.

We`ll be serving hot bowls of crow......soon.....[:D]  yummy!

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Pelosi says Bush team misled her on waterboarding (5/16/2009 6:32:34 AM)

Didn't know Panetta was a Bushie. Pelosi has now said it was not the CIA but the Bush admin, so doesn't that contradict Graham?

Edited to add:

" Pelosi (D-Calif.) has acknowledged attending the briefing but says she was told only that the CIA was considering the use of waterboarding, a technique that simulates drowning. "

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2009/05/15/ST2009051504107.html

Apparently Graham and Pelosi were or were not at two different meetings, if both their stories are accurate.
