I agree with the OP here I think. It's just a matter of wasted time. Some of you complain that you don't want your time wasted by those that do not fit your criteria; some people don't want to waste time writing to someone whose criteria they do not fit - seems like win-win to me. Your settings will still achieve their purpose even if made public, the only way to defeat them would be to lie in one's profile in order to beat the settings. Usually the argument is that a troll type contact doesn't read one's profile anyway, so why would they go to the trouble of reading the email settings even if they were made public?

The other possible course of action is just for people to be honest about what they seek in their profiles and have their email settings match that. Anything else is potentially rude.

But whatever...

Icey, if people put the relevant peramiters in their profile then you would have a point. However they don't. Like I say I am very selective in the mails I send out and there has been nothing in any of the profiles to indicate that I was outside of any permaiters. However in not one of the profiles I have so far responded to has the young lady in question mentioned anything about age (And there have been a few that I would have responded to apart from the fact that they have mentioned age and I have been over what they where looking for)

So the possibility is that I am falling above the age range of their search, but I have no way of knowing this. Hence backing this suggestion.

That isn't saying I've stopped my search. One young lady read my mail this afternoon and I am hoping that she will reply at some point over the next day or two. If I don't then she isn't interested but at least I know what I sent has been opened and if there was any interest then I would have got a responce. It doesn't leave that question just hanging.

Like I say, not the biggest of deals, just something that would make things a little more pleasent for some of us.... and if you never make a suggestion then you never get one taken on-board!

I may have missed this point, as I only skimmed the thread, but here's my thought.

I would put MONEY on the fact that if our mail filter settings were made public many of us (dominant women, especially, I think) would be further flooded by mail asking "why!!??!?!" as in "why do you have those settings?!"

I think that people are more likely to, rather than just move on past a profile that has settings that don't match them, take the time to write to that individual either to complain of their bias in having those settings, or to tell them why the writer should be considered anyway.

Not everyone, of course, but look at how many threads are started here about individuals who state various preferences in their profiles.

I just don't think this would -solve- any problems and might add more.

AND let's not forget the fact that some will still lie about such things...if only to see if they get a wider range of responses to their profile.

There are just too many negative variables associated with doing such a thing to call it feasible. It would only cause more problems than it would solve.

At last, Thanks PA that at least is a reasonable argument against the idea rather than just a kneejerk reaction like has been seen so far. It is certainly something I hadn't considered (Probably because I am not prone to that particular brand of stupidity myself).

If it simply showed what the settings where then there is no likelyhood of lies. They are set at whatever they are set at and thats what it would show.

It still doesn't address the point PA made, I certainly don't have a counter-argumeent to her point nor am I familiar enough with how much that would be a problem to assess wether it would be worth continuing this as a suggestion or if it would preclude it. Certainly something to think about.

And what should we do with the people that when they get an email, they search the senders profile before opening it? Many have said they do just this, and if they are not compatable they delete the message.

Should CM.com then have the mods or admins email them or call them to ask why?

Another good point against, but not totaly ruling out the suggestion as whilst it wouldn't account for people doing that (Which again I hadn't thought of) it would maybe reduce the number of unopened mails.

But whilst it may make a little diffrence in the number of mails geting sent only to be unopened, I'm beginning to think that diffrence maybe too small to be worth the effort.

I don't mind people saying my suggestion sucks, I just like to have a coherent reason WHY it sucks

That's kinda how I feel.

I know it's frustrating to have e-mails deleted without being read. Believe it or not, I've had a couple of those myself.

However, I think that the -majority- of these problems would be solved by everyone reading profiles. Since I don't think everyone will read profiles, we are -always- going to be flooded with more mail than we can handle.

Sadly, this does slant it against the individuals that take the time to read and approach only good matches, as opposed to those who flood everyone.

I just don't think that, short of some kind of electrified keyboard that shocks you when you try to write to a person who says "NO [ x ]" when you are [ x ], anything will change all that.

Forget about emails that never get read for a minute. Let's talk about emails sent that never get replied to. I do not send stupid email and only send email after browsing someone that might fit miy criteria or i may fit hers. I do not use filthy language and come on like some pushy jerk saying the dopest things like your dirt and the such. I usually send a short note that i'm interested in them ,a little about me and hope that thay relpy. Most do not. Maybe i'm missing the point,aren't most on here are looking for someone alot of us for ltr longterm?Why not reply if and see what heppened if it doent work out then just say no thanks it won't work out .No harm in that ,but to get no answer to me is kind of welll why post a profile and waste my time to email you. I think we have things in common ,maybe they don't think that but then email back and say no thanks . But that's me not everyone shares my point of view.

I do to a point.... but on a site like this, I'd have to mostly disagree. Why? Go ask on the Submissive board just how many emails they actualy get! we are not talking 10 or 20 we are talking hundreds!

If I send a mail and it is opened and get no reply, then it is obvious she has seen what I had to say but has no interest, end of story. I have my answer, move along!

Yes it would be polite, but with hundreds of mails, the probability is that they simply don't have time!

READ THE PROFILES!
Now we have to deal with complaints that email filters should be made public.
As already stated, I use these filters. I also check My bulk mailbox daily.
I am not seeking a Dominant male. I am not seeking a femsub. I am not seeking boys from overseas. I state I do not chat. I state I do not do online. I state I do not do cam.
I state what is reasonable, and with great detail in My profile when I am actively seeking. IT DOESN'T MATTER!
I state I will not respond to one liners. I state I have an extreme distaste for fetish driven user names (i.e. licku4hrs, cbtslut, et al.) I state I seek TPE and even define it for the boy who might be reading. I state the boy must be relocatable. I state I seek a slave, and even share My definition of "slave". IT DOESN'T MATTER!
Look at My age. I am done having children. Mine are all grown. What possible interest might I have in a 19 year old boy in India? Or a 22 year old boy in Iowa who is still a full time student? Most of the time they are just trying to wiggle their way into some cyber-domination when they are bored on a Friday night.
I look at every profile unless the one liner is "u r hot" or "do u do cam? or "send more pics". I also state I do not send more pics.
I can't tell you how many profiles only have one or two lines, or are completley blank. And very rarely a photo.
Filters have a purpose. My time is just as valuable as their time.
But this line takes the cake for Me:

First and foremost, I would like to thank the entire staff of Collarme for the excellent, and free service they provide.

I don't have any opinion on this issue one way or the other, but would like to point out that making changes to websites probably takes time, and probably costs money. I'm just guessing here, but my thinking is that being a moderator here is a labor of love, rather than labor for compensation.

I think the people that want this, should take up a collection to pay for it. Around here, programmers bill right around $100 an hour. Get an estimate from the Collarme moderators of how many hours it would take ... do the math, and send them a check.
