candystripper -> Computer Questions (2/7/2006 2:05:31 PM)

Once again, imposing on the members' kindness.

Does anyone know how to open "Mail Attachments" where the Yahoo Pictures are kept?

Does anyone know how to "share Yahoo calendar" with another person?

Is it safe to buy with a personal check, not credit card, online?

Can anyone think of a reason my YIM would be all fugly, closing without notice and unable to support LAUNCHcast Radio? Could it be spyware?

i own a Panasonic fax machine, which can send, but not receive or copy as promised. Can anyone spend time walking me through the necessary changes? Or should i try to return it? Can such things be repaired?

i have a splitter on the phone jack in here and need a 3rd phone line for the fax machine. What do i do?

Anyone who is of assistance may ask a simple legal or tax question as my repayment...but remember to email me for the sake of privacy.

Though I find buying online risky no matter what venue you take, this is the absolute worse. You have to give out the routing number for you checking acct. Never good, never, never, never.

As for the rest, I wish I could help you with that.

Candy,

I think they make 3-way phone splitters. (I could be wrong).

Yes to the yahoo calendar, Master always has access to mine.
When you open your calendar, at the top of the calendar is the word Sharing. Click on it, and it takes you to a page where you set up who you want to share it with. If you have any other questions about it let me know.

Usually there's a "Download" button that you click

Go to the calendar site, click on Settings, change settings to allow others to view your calendar, then go to the friends listing under sharing and add whoever you want on yahoo to see.

No idea what you're asking here- unless you mean using a debit or direct account transfer. If it's safe to use with a credit card, it's safe to use with something else, however, I prefer using cc as it's easier for my accounting.

It's more likely your computer is finally rebelling against you and typing all the ridiculous stuff that you do.

Why don't you call the Panasonic help number that is probably handily included in the manual? Or go to their website?

Go to radio shack.

Can I just ask how you managed to survive this long?

Really LA, is there any need for such sarcasm???? If you feel this way, why don't you just ignore candy? Some of us enjoy her posts and are more than happy to help if we are able.

In theory Candy blocked me. Well she said she blocked me, then responded to a post and then said she blocked me again (for REAL this time!)

If you didn't notice, I gave her extremely helpful and good advice to all of her points.

How will what I say prevent you from enjoying her posts? Everyone on this board has people who love them and people who can't stand them. I find Candy fairly useless as a contributor in discussions about healthy offline relationship dynamics and often makes thinly veiled attempts to gain attention through poor-me tactics, as well as a seemingly unending lack of understanding of basic relationship concepts. Obviously other people find her charming and witty. I'm ok with that.

But I still told her to go to Radio Shack and that's pretty useful info.

Defense is usually a sign of weakness :) But I usually like men digging at me so it's all good. ;)

Uh no, if you see the little red hand at the bottom left corner of every post that says "Block" on it...

Ahhhh haaaaa Not so. Usually the best defence is attack, also often a defense is excelent to mask an attack from an unexpected quater. LA, there are times I could happily pick you up and drop you over my knee and paddle your arse and others when I could hug you.. You keep me thiking which is good.. However I will never stop defending my friends for that is part of what I am.

You are just doing that now? [:D]

SirKenin -> RE: Computer Questions (2/7/2006 6:12:19 PM)

Buying is quite safe online actually, but I do not recommend a cheque. I use Mastercard for My online needs and have yet to have a problem. Just make sure you are dealing with verified sites. Not paypal either.. That is a scam just waiting to happen in a million and one ways. With credit cards you always have protection with the issuer. Cheques, your bank will not care less and will do little, if anything, to help you. Same with Paypal. So many people have been ripped off using that system it is unreal. Just do a search on Google.

As for Yahoo, Yahoo is a piece of crap. Absolute garbage programming and has been for years. For a while there they were trying to blame all their woes on MSN, but it is just that whoever writes their code has no clue what they are doing. That is why it is shutting down at random and other wierd anomalies. I would not be hasty to blame it on spyware, although Microsoft Antispyware Beta and Ewido will tell you in a big hurry.

If you suspect problems with the fax machine, throw it out or send it back. They are a dime a dozen and not worth fixing or wasting your time on, that is for sure. The first thing to do would be to go back to the vendor and seek warranty repair or replacement. Failing that, pitch it and buy a new one from someone else, or better yet use Snappy Fax for your computer for 19.99 million dollars.. [8D]

I had her blocked as EmeraldSlave, blocked her again when I found out she was hiding behind a new facade, and then unblocked her to read the post everyone is complaining about. After reading it, I blocked her again. Most of the stuff she posted in it was not worth reading and I would have blocked her too if I was candystripper.. Ooops.. I did.

Posting sarcastic, redundant answers is hardly helpful and little more useful than telling us that she sleeps with 15 different concurrent boyfriends and guys and how smart she is. I think your comment to candystripper was uncalled for personallly. I think she did the right thing. Rather than snap back at her, she made use of a board function and bit her tongue. Good for her.

IronBear -> RE: Computer Questions (2/8/2006 6:18:50 AM)

Ok cany sweet,

Regardig spyware and other malevolent items like keyloggers. First get you arse to the Lavasoft site (I think www.lavasoft.com) and get twp free programs. The first is called "Ad-Aware SE Personal" This version is free and when i first put it on the puter it found 800 adware, malware and keyloggers in the fiorst 14 days. it was easy to quarantine and then remove them and block them for the future. I'd run it daily including the updates. The other program which is also free is SpywareBlaster from Lavasoft as well. this program will deal with the active-X programs which may be unauthorised and are used to dump links on your puter. (I have over 60 porn sites one night which this program got rid of for me.)

SirKenin -> RE: Computer Questions (2/8/2006 10:31:01 AM)

Ad-Aware is very good, but do not rely on it exclusively. As part of My strategy when I treat infected computers I use a few different programs to search for and delete infections. My consistent findings is that Ad-Aware finds things that Spybot misses, for example, yet Spybot picks up several things that Ad-Aware misses.

What I am saying, then, is to truly deal with the problem you need a multi-pronged approach. I find that Ewido scan is far superior to Ad-Aware, so I now use Ewido, Spybot (and especially the active protection portion) and MS Antispyware Beta. For virii, I use the Panda Activescan and Trend Micro Housecall. For hijacks, I use HijackThis. For all the Cool Web Search variants I use CWShredder, available from Trend Micro.

Needless to say, nothing gets past Me, and I can safely offer a warranty with My service as I leave tools behind to protect them from reinfection.

I wouldnt go *that* far.. ive been using yahoo for about 6 years now... never once had a problem with messanger like candy says... However, there *WAS* one time where i exp. random shutdowns.. the infamous "ypager has encountered an error and needs to close"

that was solved by simply scanning for viruses, uninstalling yahoo messenger, then reinstalling it..

I DO agree with SirKenin on not using PayPal...thats a disaster waiting to happen...

i use my credit card online at times, the best piece of advice i can give you candy, is watch your statements carefully, and report the first unusual bill you see to your cc company, and dispute the charges if need be..

as far as your fax machine goes... i found a service online.. i forgot exactly what it was called.. but for appx. 12.99 a month, you could print out faxes..

It was interesting.. if i faxed you, it would get sent to them, they would email you.. you would log into their site, and print it out if need be

if you faxed someone.. you emailed them, they would fax it for you.. it worked out very well for someones buisness that I helped them set up (i dont have any expirience installing fax lines.. setting it up within a network JUST yet.. )

His fax setup was simple.. he used the service i mentioned above... and i set up a "rule" in his mailbox.. that if an email came from the domain "blahblahblah.com" (blahblahblah.com being the fax website, but i used it for an example) to forward it to his "recieved faxes" folder ( this using yahoo webmail ) and to also mobile message him on his cell phone

so.. whenever he recieved a fax.. his cell phone would alert him. all he had to do was log into the site from *ANY* computer, then print it out if needed... I did this about 5 months ago... he hasnt called back with any problems, although i DO email him from time to time to see if he is having any problems

hope this helps :)

She wasn't hiding anything. She announced her username change in the forums and both of her profiles refer to the other usernames. I'm not sure how any reasonable person could possibly consider that hiding.

Clearly, opinions vary. As sarcasic as her response may have been, it still answered most of pink's questions. Your concern about her partners is immaterial, or perhaps just garden variety jealousy.

Except that she didn't. She's claimed to have had her blocked for quite a while now but still gets her knickers all twisted every time LA posts. I wonder how that could be if she's been blocked as claimed? Curious, isn't it?
