~FR~ My grandmother, mother, and father all quit smoking (years before it was fashionable!) by going cold turkey. My grandmother had smoked for more than forty years (she wasn't even 60 when she quit, to give you an idea of around when she started). The only thing she did to make it 'easier' was not go anywhere that had them for a few months. It meant quitting bowling, for her, and going to a normal store instead of the corner gas station for groceries, and only accepting non-smoking (or, in the case for the first couple of months only going to places that had ONLY non-smoking) seating at restaurants. The one time I talked to her about it she said it was easy because she knew it was the best thing she'd ever done for herself. While you might not be able to make the same claim (I don't know how awesome you are to yourself ;)) it's a nice thought to have! She had been smoking about a half a pack a day at the time of quitting, after cutting down (her sister died of lung cancer from, you guessed it, smoking) from a pack and a half just a couple of months earlier. Mom quit cold-turkey because she didn't want to smoke while pregnant, so did it before her wedding. Dad quit smoking cigs when he got married to mom to not tempt her, and quit pipes (which I guess isn't as addictive? I dunno) after he left the navy.
