In some people, the adrenaline element of novelty is a significant part of the rush they get from specific forms of play. And in such people, without other elements (such as submissive emotions, straight masochism, or endorphin rush), when the novelty isn't there, the interest diiminishes or disappears. Such "adrenaline junkies" may also enjoy 'nilla hazardous pastimes like dirt-bike racing, hang-gliding, or walking down dark city alleys in tuxedos. Knowing oneself well enough to identify the lure of the adrenaline rush is a valuable trait.
Newness can also be a distraction to a top or bottom, as inexperience or lack of toy/technique skill interferes with the physical sensatons, the intensity of play, and the success of energy exchange.
