Fasting - 5/27/2009 2:15:25 AM

It would be nice to hear of other experiences. Last year I went 40 days on only juice, milk, tea, and water, with an occasional dash of maple syrup or honey. That was child's play compared to water only, which I have made it to 15, 16, and 17 days on seperate occasions. Not only fasting from physical stimulations, but mental as well. Trying to discipline myself to go a 40 day fast on not only water, but no mental stimulations of the recreational type, no internet, news, media, television, radio, sports, and most of all, not turning to the left or right, or letting the thought of a woman influence a single action. Not so easy to do in the big city.

One of my best friends says I am turning into a monk, my worst enemy calls me a hypocrite because of an act that was actually the result of over a year's worth of contemplation. It would be easier to fast out in the wilderness, but not so much a test of will and self discipline as doing it in the big city while being bombarded with so much stimuli. Real fasting, nothing but water, without focusing on anything except being productive, creative, and constructive. Let's talk real discipline, and I don't mean the tying up and spanking some gutless, know-it-all, cock sucking whore that refuses to ever grow up kind.

I see no discussion. I see no question. What is the point of the post?

This is a BDSM site, not a quest for personal perfection. All I see is some self rightgeous person expounding his theory on self discipline and who sounds like he needs a big mac and a coke and a good DVD.

As for the gutless, know-it-all, cock sucking whore that refuses to ever grow up, what's that got to do with the price of spuds? And what makes you an expert on what everyone else is? And what do any of us care?

I think YOU need to grow up.

edited to add, *waits for the smartass comment from the poster who has such high opinions of himself but has no profile*

Oh good. i'm not the only one lost. i thought it was the lack of sleep...and how do you even function if fasting only on liquids after over a month? Also, wouldn't you lose *some* brain function if you were starving it of basic nutrients?

i'm wondering if this is where the hostility is coming from?

You're new around here, so I'm going to give you a piece of unsolicited, friendly advice. If you want to have a serious discussion on any topic, it's best to leave inflammatory, extraneous bullshit out of it because what happens is people will jump on that part of the post, respond to only that part of the post and then the thread gets moved to Random Stupidity (or deleted if it gets really out of hand) and anything thoughtful or inciteful that you might have shared get's lost. That is neither the way to learn nor the way to educate.

In addition, it sets a precedent so that even when you leave out the bullshit, many people will have already formed an opinion of your writing and just won't bother with you and if you're not here to get read, get your thoughts across and be heard, what are you here for? That's a rhetorical question so no need to answer it, just something to think about.

Better luck next time. You don't get a whole lot of chances around these parts.

This makes me think that people who go on vision quests and all that crap don't see spirits...they see hallucinations 'cause their brain is going all wacky and haywired from depriving it of basic "fuel' to run properly.

I don't know about test of will or self discipline.  I believe it all comes down to the individual and why they are fasting.  Some of course do it to test themselves.  Some do it to purge.  Some do it to suffer.  Some do it to learn.  Some do it because they can and want to be able to say to themselve they can do it/have done it.  Some do it to show off and get reactions  - both positive and negative - from others.

I don't believe it has to do with discipline at all, discipline would be to do with dieting, not fasting.  And fasting for me is strictly a personal thing, otherwise it has taught a person nothing.

Actually you don't get fasting at all, at least from the POV of the Bible (if you choose to believe in it)  In the Bible, the Monks/Priests who fasted and made a huge deal about it, telling everyone how much they suffered, what great pains they went through for the fast, how they thought they fasted better than everyone else, therefore they where better than everyone else; where in fact looked down upon by jesus.

It was those who fasted and did it for their own personal reasons and kept it to themselves who found grace in Jesus.

A fast such as OP describes should bring out a gentle, contemplative side.  When OP quits fasting and starts eating meat, he or she will be LOADS of fun.

Among the Lakota at least, the vision quest or hambleyca (crying for a vision) is a max of 4 days and nights and i can assure you, visions are seen, not hallucinations.  Since it is a time for praying only, only if you are there for the wrong reasons will you get skewed results.

I tend to have a lot less respect for someone who fasts and then feels the need to brag about how disciplined they were and what a wonderful thing they did to others. If you are truly doing it for selfexploration then you are the only one who will see it as a benefit. The rest of us see you as a holier-than-thou braggart who believes their way is the best way.

Great first impression,

DV
