Opinion.

If your support for your point is so flimsy that you have to trot out the "O" word, everyone here would be better served abandoning the discussion with you.

Millions of viewers lie to themselves everyday; your point?

Kim

Huh? If you could please clue me in as to how your response here follows any linear logic to what I said, I'd be delighted.

I talk about the kind of person who lies about an encounter she has with an officer in order to garner sympathy until video proof makes her out to be a fraud.

You counter with a comment about how television viewers lie to themselves.

Relevance?

With this thinking, no one could be arrested for stealing. "Oh, since I've been caught I'll put the merchandise back and you have to let me go."

She was a bitch to the cop and she paid for it.  Too bad the cop had a taser.  She deserved a beat down Rodney King style with a fucking metal baton.

See...that's a bit excessive. Although it should certainly be in my bulleted option list.

However, the thread of the title could more appropriately be edited as: "Deliberate bitch tasers in TX~!"

Just to be clear, I believe she said give me the "fucking" ticket.  Yes, she played the age card.  Personally, I didn't count, but it seemed like every other sentence out of her mouth was "I'm a 72 year old woman" like it should have made a difference.  The officer acted within the SCOPE OF HIS DUTIES that he is permitted as an officer of the law.

For Christ's sake people, you don't like the laws of this country, get your J.D. degree and work towards changing the law or move the fuck to another country.  If American is so bad, why the hell does everyone from everywhere want to move here so bad?  If all the people who join the corrupt, conspiracy chain would leave and go somewhere else, we would have less crowding and more room for people who would be grateful to be here and allowed to have some say on the way the country works.

Granny ran her mouth and paid the price for it.  She even had an attitude on the segment where she tried to claim she was just some sweet old woman.  Her injuries weren't so profound that she couldn't make the appearance.  Hell I shocked myself probably worse than that once when I used a potato to try to get out a broken lightbulb, but forgot to turn the stupid light out.  Blew my ass right off the dining room table.  Half the people here who are into electical play probably get close or past the shock she got.  She will sue, they will settle rather than draw things out in court and her attorney will take a third.

This thread is now ELEVEN pages long and it isn't even about poor foul mouth granny anymore.  It's all about how all or nearly all the police, judges, lawyers, any government worker has some sort of God complex and wants to make your life miserable.  People need to stop and think that maybe if they would stop behaving in inappropriate manners they wouldn't have issues with law enforcement.

I'm going to be 45 later this month and I have NEVER been arrested.  Never gotten more than a traffic ticket.  Yes, I have been handcuffed, but it was NEVER for breaking the law.  Yes, I have had my problems with how the system was working and I put myself in a career position where I could make changes to it.  I didn't keep whining about how bad our system was and do nothing to change what I didn't like.  I DID participate in changing certain laws in my state.  I continue to do my part to make a difference.  For those of you who don't like how things are working, what have YOU done?  Have you done anything besides complain that things are not to your liking?

Yeah, I don't do the "becuase I say so" thing to well.

You seem to think "millions of people" should be offened because "she lied to millions of people"; my belief is, millions of people lie to themselves everyday, so why should they be offended by someone else lying to them.

How did I miss that twice? Is it muddled during one of the moments when a car is passing, making audible clarity iffy?

Anyhow...it's interesting to see some comments about how the tasering was "too far"....because it doesn't make any sense. It's his job to request compliance with the law. If that fails, it's his job to enforce compliance. The taser appears to be the least aggressive (yet perhaps a more embarrassing) means of doing that. Despite her earlier piss poor attitude, the officer still takes time afterward to calmly make sure she's healthy and comfortable.

You'd have to have seen the local coverage here where they had subtitles.

You're just being silly now. You know as well as I do the bitch was belligerant from the word go.

This is a quibble. The point is what she did could be considered a crime. And she did it while being belligerant and threatening toward the officer. He took the appropriate action.

quote:

ORIGINAL: cpK69
The point was, people were claiming the “cop” had no choice; he did, and therefore made a judgment.

You're right. He had a choice. He could have let her walk out into traffic, get a gun to kill him, or speed off angrily hitting a nearby pedestriant crossing the street. We'll never know what might have happened because he took the opportunity to handle the potentially dangerous situation in a non-lethal manner.

quote:

ORIGINAL: cpK69
You're really not seeing it, are you?

Apparently you aren't either. What a cop does to control a situation, while sometimes painful is not a punishment. Punishments are handed down from judges and juries in court. What a cop does to bring an unruly suspect under control are not punishment.

Even in the face of the obvious? Care to provide any solid reasoning as to why the actions of the officer were not perfectly in line with his job requirements?

It's not about us being offended! It's about honesty. It's about not blatantly falsifying your account of an event just to get your way.

Or maybe you're just lying to yourself now about the fact that she was, by any sensible account of the events, completely guilty of everything that came her way.

ROFL!

Um...there's video evidence here! We have the dashcam showing her irreverent attitude! There is no "belief" necessary. (Note: no sensible person presumed the presence of WMDs without  there being adequate reason and evidence to justify it. If you're trying to peg the mistakes of other people onto those you are arguing with, then I'll make sure not to take your points seriously because somewhere some mother has physically abused her own child).

Or...maybe the whole clip is just a CGI hoax perpetrated by the police department!

I don't think his point was that we should be offended that she lied, but we should see her for what she is. She went on national news and said she did absolutely nothing to instigate the incident. Then the dash cam footage came out. And she was a belligerant bitch from minute 1. Strangely, after the footage came out, she wasn't as willing to go on camera to try and win sympathy anymore.

You want to know what the sad thing is?

People who jump in to paint brush-strokes across the board just because something is an event of a certain type (police officers enforcing the law). It's noticeable when the arguments don't stay on the individual case, but lump the incident into a big box of similar events which can all be unilaterally decried as "abuse of power".

And you know why that's sad? Because real incidents of police abuse do happen and they deserve harsh reprimand. Not all cops are fuckers and not all instances of cops enforcing the law are abuses. But treating them all like they are harms the credibility of instances when it does happen. It sets people to automatic "pro" or "con" positions on the topic before the evidence of each case is even presented.

It treats the victims of real, harmful abuse as parallel to whiny egotists with attitudes of entitlement who use their episodes as PR moves to make themselves look good. And that hurts real victims. It disenfranchises them of the reality of the trauma they've experienced. It robs them of their individual pains in favor of the agenda to paint all instances of something in one color.

You guys have been great. The opportunity to be accused of doing the very thing you are, only at the opposite end of the situation; priceless.
My need for a sense of balance has been the cause for my responding to this thread.
I can’t see how Mr. “Cop” can be raised any higher, without his head popping from high altitude; and I don’t find it very sporting to kick people while their down. Even if I did, it’s been covered, beyond reason.

I've had enough

You win!!! Congrats.

The problem with this type of thinking, is you were absent from the beginning. We *were* the balance. But you didn't read the whole thread so you decided to jump on the opposite side we were on.

I don't know about anyone else but to me it goes towards credibility, ai don't know this lady from adam or the cop, but to me she lost her credibility in attempting to use the media to gain sympathy by lying to gain that sympathy and intending to me to HARM someone -- i.e., the cop, and his career, and the effects all of this could have on him by LYING to the media to gain sympathy for something she doesn't deserve sympathy for because of her inappropriate actions.

I mean seriously does the cop deserve the crap he got because this lady went on television and lied?  Not only him but his whole department because soo many people just HATE generalizing and associating assumption of automatic negativity towards cops.  Does he deserve the negative suspicion and the bad cop syndrome associated with him because this lady LIED. This mindset is what i speak of when i talk about generalizing, people jump to conclusions and it allows people to feed on the negativity of that and feed it by lies and when their lies catch up with them its the oh well syndrome i don't wish t o speak to the media anymore -- but the damage on many levels is still been done and had toward this cop.

She went on television and by lying chose to attempt to HARM someone else and pretty much his life since with most cops their career IS their life.  And just for the record this is NOT part of a cops job or requirement of having to be a cop, its a result because of people's generalization because of a few.

Exactly which trenches are those?  Do you work in government?  Politics?  ACLU?  Exactly which trenches are you looking in?

"We the people" exists.  It is simply a matter of some people not liking how things are going so all they do is complain rather that affect change.  Society does not remain peaceful just because you wish it to be so.  There will always be people who will think they can do what they want.  Luckily for the rest of us, there will always be those employed to keep those who think the laws don't apply to them in line.

A bunch of people here are spouting conspiracy theories all over, where of course, the facts are never really proveable.  But think about this.  When 9/11 hit, and all those policemen, firemen and volunteers rushed into those towers to save people sacrificing their own lives, what conspiracy were they a part of?  Were they just flexing their police muscles?  What about every other disaster where these men and women have risked their lives?  Men and women have been fighting and dying for years for YOUR freedom, so you have the right to sit on your computer and say how they are all a bunch of assholes who abuse their position.

Have you ever given any thought to that while you are claiming that "We the people" are a myth?
